I have decided to throttle down on E-Bay sales this year. Why pay 12+% AND deal with bottom feeders that always want quality at under bid? I have better sales tools.

3/10th of a % increase in coins.....compared to your other major auction sites, is nothing.

They advertised the increase as a 0.3% increase when in actuality 8.8% vs 8.5% in coins is actually closer to a 3.5% increase.

    .3 divided by 8.5 times 100% is 3.5%

    I'm not a dealer. If I buy a coin from someone, I don't think I have to issue them a 1099.

Just watch...it's only the beginning. Next they will take away the generous free listings. Without a store it's no on par with Great Collections fees if the buyer pays with a CC. If not GC is a little cheaper.

C'mon, don't be so hard on them. They only raised the fees . . . . . . because they could.

I have not used ebay this year. I tried to cancel my account but they say I can't if I have a subscription on going. I don't know anything about subscription. I will have to call them and have them cancel my account. I don't want anything to do with them anymore.

I have been selling more and more. I don’t look at anything except my bank account.

Ease of sales, wide user base, known quantity of “issues”, and that’s what I need right now. Ebay has it all.

If my sales get over $500,000 a year, I may look at something different.

I did not realize ebay had such structured selling fees.... I have never sold anything on ebay. I do not buy much there... and when I do, it is not coins. I do find ebay useful for hard to find stuff when a need arises. Cheers, RickO

Many BST buyers are looking to buy at below wholesale in my experience. You’ll get more on eBay, but then fees wipe out your profit so they net about the same. No good way to do this.

I gave up selling on eBay a year ago due to weak prices. Great Collections is where the action is for me right now. But the other thing that really perturbs me on eBay is the lack of self policing. The number of scam sellers, rip offs, and total coin sales "I saw it on Youtube so its got to be worth millions" is just out of hand right now. Reporting this crap does nothing.

eBay is the only way to go, really, if your goal is to move from being a mid-level vest dealer to a full-time dealer without a store or tables at shows.

As a collector I've not bought on eBay much because in the three areas I search for there is very little suitable inventory and when it is there it is often priced above retail. In a state with sales tax on coins that's just too much often and the sellers have been generally unwilling to go down 5-10%. That may just be in the three areas I look, though.

Used to love eBay. With the fees now, I wonder if they aren't trying to go out of business for some reason. It's dang near impossible to make a profit there now. It's like they wanna be Amazon, but they're goin down the drain ignoring what they were good at.

You have to break out of that mentality that you make money when you sell a coin.

You lock in your profit when you buy a coin. Whatever you get over that expected sell price you figured out when you bought is gravy. My expected sell prices are marked up to account for eBays fees, and I still do quite well selling there.

I kid you. I've been on eBay since 1998. I'm glad you're able to buy and sell and kill it there. I'm quite sure you have it all figured out. Don't pay any attention to the ramblings of some old dude like me who doesn't know which way is up or down.

  • bennybravobennybravo Posts: 1,927 ✭✭✭

Can you give us an example DelewareDoons? I'd love to see an example of what you bought and sold and made a nice profit on using ebay, fees be damned. Can you give us an example on how to make money on ebay? Some of us aren't as savvy as you. Especially us older folks.

I’m done with FeeBay for selling a anything. I might buy but I’ll sure as hell am not going to sell. Actually I quit selling on the sight several years ago.

You hold on there you crazyhounddog. Delewaredoons is gonna show us what to do. He has it figured out. Don't give up just yet. He seems to have some method that usurps all fee problems and makes a profit using ebay! Lets wait for his examples.

I just have a world-class eye for buying coins as well as some luck. But you know what they say about luck... Luck is the intersection of preparation and opportunity.

I'm not really going to sit here and outline how I make money doing this, but I will show you this. A screenshot of my eBay feedback as a buyer over the past 12 months, proving that every one of my 452 feedback (on this account) came as a buyer. Now, I make sub $40,000 a year at my day job, and I spent $265,000 on eBay last year. That doesn't happen without profits being made. I'll post a screenshot of my spending from "Mint".

    I don't BS.
