Thanks @pursuitofliberty! And not just 58, but 58+! 😉
That’s a great ‘26! I’d say don’t reholder it, but what do I know?
Here’s another fav in a “not-so” high grade, but still a favorite! Love the “major” early overdates….
@Boosibri Those are really cool looking Proofs. I especially like the Atlantic Salmon (I think that's the representation).
.
@GuzziSport That is a great looking EF! Great (over)date too!
I don't have any "official" 58+'s yet. But a lot of my stuff has never been sent in for Plus reconsiderations.
As far as my NEWP, we'll see how I feel after a few more looks. Unfortunately white plastic usually goes begging in the CBH realm whenever it comes time to sell, unless it has a bean. And even then somewhat, sometimes. I'm pretty confident in the coin, and I gave up on cross overs a long time ago. Believe in the coin and send it raw. Anyway, like I said, not sure yet.

Beautiful AM here in the Tampa Bay area with a Starbucks Sumatra! No Red Eye today, not home & no new coins to post. But, I have a beautiful set of twins for today that I can’t recall posting before:
IHC collectors know the 1872 is comparatively rare with the vaunted 1877. The first TV is a 66RB of the Bold N variety. Up until 1870, all IHC’s were of the Shallow N rev design. The lower portion of the N in ONE appears to be nearly flat to the coin surface. 1870 transitioned into the Bold N rev, where this N is “full”. Yet, approximately 2% of the 1871’s & 1872’s were of the old Shallow N rev design. The second TV shows such an example.
The Bold N depicted has a pop of 15/0. According to IHC expert Rick Snow, that number is exaggerated greatly. In his opinion, many of them are overgraded; this one, however, is not. The surfaces are natural, extremely clean & well struck. The piece has attractive eye appeal that is enhanced by nice luster. IMO, the coin is essentially flawless.
The Shallow N depicted has a pop of a mere 2/0. It’s a truly beautifully toned piece that’s fairly dripping with luster. Strike is sharply chiseled & the coin is essentially devoid of marks.
These two coins are part of a handful of the finest of my IHC collection.
Note: the Shallow N slab was taken before an upgrade attempt by the previous owner. It is the same coin as shown in the TV.
GM My Saturday coffee and coins folks -
I don't like to admit, but I got smoked at the Central States show! I wasn't able to locate any coin that was on my "Have to have" list. Oh- well. I didn't go any empty handed, but I did manage to locate several large size currencies that are absolutely gorgeous, so I acquired them. Enjoy this Saturday, enjoy a cup of coffee and if you have time go back to earlier pages on this thread and enjoy the wonderful coins.
Beautiful Saturday AM here in Minden NV. Much of my family is in town for my uncle’s funeral; he was a true local icon in these parts & was loved by many. As a Catholic priest for over 50 years, he impacted & touched a great number of people.
No Red Eye today but the dark roast is strong - just the way I like it! My post today is one of my favorite varieties that, incredibly enough, I’ve never posted before:
The year 1859 is one of my favorites in the entire 51 year series & also a one year type that started it all off. The S-1 variety is rated as a 4* & very rare besides. There are 11 MS examples graded; this one’s a 2/4. The coin has a very dramatic repunched date affecting all 4 digits. It’s perhaps the most pronounced in the series!
Next week, I’ll have a gold NEWP to post.
Dark Roast, black and smooth ... out here on the edge of the earth.
Great Date Back $100. and wonderful early National $5. @EastonCollection Like you, I have no coins from the Central States, but I also ended up with a couple pieces of Currency (from Auction). I'm going to hold off until next week on those through as they are not here yet.
@PocketChange Are you sure that Quarter isn't hitting your cold brew stash? George looks fully caffeinated!
Lovely '59 Indian! @Copperindian That one has fantastic looking surfaces and color too.

Okay here's one I haven't shown. I know this because I took a flyer on this girl a couple weeks ago on eBay for my DM set, and so she's definitely a new addition.

Looks like I picked up a cold somewhere, which scuttles my plans for a day of yard work. So I’m taking it easy and spending some time this morning with my three favorite proof Mercs from my incomplete set.
I’ve also got a 1936 and a 1941, but I don’t like them quite as well as I do these three in the picture.
Ah thanks as my Dear grandmother was legit Swedish (nee- maiden name - Hegglund). It does help hold her in my mind.

Happy Red Eye Saturday to all! Headed to Disneyland today with my youngest grandson & his family. It’s his first time & he’s VERY excited. But first, a NEWP:
“Commodity” gold for sure but an abject beauty with the coveted bean! There’s slight & light reddish toning blended perfectly with the lustrous gold. This will be one of the last additions to my type gold set. Still looking for a capped bust $5 & another $1 or two.
Just received the coin yesterday. As an immigrant, this Statue of Liberty Silver Dollar holds deep meaning for me—it’s a symbol of the freedom and hope that brought me to this country.
@Inspired70, @Copperindian & @Ikenefic - Love all your coins! Personally, I love the Bust coinage best so that is most appreciated to me. It seems that everyone shows off wonderful Bust halves and my wheelhouse are Bust quarters and Dimes. Here is a wonderful example of a 1825 B-3 that is tough to locate in mint state that I just added to my cabinet. Note there are only 6 MS gold stickers large size Capped Bust quarters.
Happy Saturday indeed! Dark Italian pour-over. Smooooooth.
Wow! @Inspired70 Brought out a monster early I see?! Is that a mic drop, before we get started? Gorgeous! Thanks for the shout out.
And then @EastonCollection dropped a bomb! OMG!! Drool worthy. Glad I checked before I posted my write up from below (which got me into the second cup this morning). Man, I have to catch my breath on that one.
.
Little did @DCW know when he started this thread. It's kind of like must see Saturday morning Cartoons for grown up Coin Collectors. It's an IMPORTANT part of the week!
.
Anyway, I'm also getting ready to head out for the day. After a couple of drizzly days, looks like it'll be a beauty today.
.
Soooooo ... how about a colorful coin AND a colorful note from me this morning?
I mean, what the heck, Summer is almost here.
.
Anyone following along probably knows I am a little crazy about CBH's and specific Die Marriages and Die States. So for our coin, let's do something kind of difficult.
This is my second 1828 O-121a, which is a fairly difficult r.4+ coin to find. I sold my other to Dave Kahn after he saw it at the ANA last year. It subsequently sold, but not sure where it went. That coin was an NGC AU58, and while I liked it, she didn't really fit in my collection right (hard to quantify, but she was a dazzler).
Anyway, when this came up in the The Towers Collection, Part II this Winter, I knew I had to consider her carefully. After viewing I knew I wanted to take her home. Thankfully no-one really bid me up, because I would have went further, and I absolutely love her.
CrustyColor, personified. Also, undergraded IMO.
. 1828 O-121a PCGS AU53cac
(121.2), r.4+; ex-Torres, Ruby-red and emerald-green accents catch the eye, while subtle iridescence fills the fields of this attractively toned O-121a example. The smooth, well-patinated surfaces are free of significant marks and the strike lacks sharpness only at points of wear such as Liberty's upper curls and immediately above the drapery.
.
I did say AND a note, right?
US Large-size Currency has a major pull on me, and so I dabble. I might go crazy, but I am not of the means to chase two brides.
One note I have always wanted was a Series 1869 "Rainbow". These are pretty popular and not the hardest Notes to find, although they are pricey, and aren't the easiest to find nice that check all the boxes, especially if you want something specific.
I like all of the designs for the different denominations, but I long decided I wanted a $5. example, which ties into a Denomination Type Set I would like to complete ... maybe, someday.
And then, over the Central States auctions, I found it. It certainly didn't come cheap, but thank God, unlike those crazy CBH's, just one will do!
So, here is my Colorful Note for the day!
. $5 1869 Legal Tender, Fr. 64 PMG AU58epq
A very attractive example, this popular Rainbow Woodchopper is well margined on both face and back with excellent color and original surfaces. New to the census, it has the look of a Choice New note within its PMG holder.
.
Have a great Saturday guys, wherever that takes you!
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

@EastonCollection That 1825/3 Gold CAC quarter is simply to die for! You should never ever let her go!
So its early here in the North Coast and I can't sleep as the Knicks lost 2 games in the East Coast finals. Its been a long time when the Knicks made it this far in the draw. Tennis in a little bit so its some coffee to wake me up. So this is a oldie and I like it so I am sharing it with you guys - I acquired this coin in the Nov 2013 in one of the Newman auctions. This was the lowest graded Capped Bust quarter in Platinum night auction and I was proud of acquiring it. Its was graded NGC Fine -15 that I crossed over to PCGS 15 and subsequently got it CAC'd. The 1822 25/50 quarter is very scarce and if you check the PCGS pop report they only graded 38 of them with 11 graded higher and even more scarce with those CAC'd - only 11 CAC'd with only 3 graded higher.
On the road again on another “no Red Eye” Saturday in hot FL! Still, the coffee’s a strong dark roast just the way I like it! Today’s coin represents a very occasional foray I make that’s not typical of my usual focus:
While not a “pretty” one, even @ F15 it’s a tough rarity that I’m proud to own! Solid for the grade & a true natural.
