#88 PM'ed to hookedoncoins as requested (his last remaining "freebie").

Again, please make all clue requests on this thread, not by PM. I will send the picture clues via PM, but I want everyone's requests here in the open, so we can keep track of who has what.

(This is mainly for my benefit, actually. With everyone trading and forum treasure hunting, there is no telling who has what. But I need to keep track of what I PM). image

    LM,

Is the coin you are giving away # 31 on the list? I believe it is by your clues.

Dennis, It could be, it could be... Do you know what the date, service, and grade of that coin are?

As I said, RTG thinks he has it figured out, and he was the first to get the info on #31 (though that might or might not have been his actual guess for the prize coin).

BUT...the prize coin might or might not be #31. Remember, there are a few other types that could fit the clues I gave, and one of those types has not been requested by anyone yet...

If you wish to make #31 your final guess, tell me the date, service, and grade of the coin. If you are correct, I will publicize that coin in the list and you will get 2 free clues toward possibly winning it. Depending on whether or not RTG guessed correctly, I may have to award him two clues as well, since he was the first to guess, be it right or wrong. (He gave the date, grade, and service of the coin he thinks is the prize, but did he actually pick the right coin? I await a reply from him on whether he wants to make his guess final, or try again later...) image

By the way, I still don't have your six choices for your new player startup...

Keets- welcome! Pick which six you want, from the list in this thread. image

WWBillman- that guess would be incorrect, even if you had the date, service, and grade on the type you mentioned. Read the clues earlier in this thread. The type you mentioned was not in production the year the Titanic sank. In circulation, yes. Some of the ones you mentioned probably sank with the ship. Actually made in that year, however, no. Sorry. You blew your guess on the prize coin's identity. image

If you are the first to get all 89, though, as you were with the first 24 in the "warmup" round, then you will win the real prize coin, whatever that might be... image

    Hi, Dan. Welcome! image

    Any questions on the game?

As a new player, you get to choose six coins from the list in the other thread. Note that the first 24 coins are already provided, as those were yesterday's "warmup" round.

Pick your six and request them by number, in this thread.

    LM,

First off.. Thank you for such an enjoyable contest. It certainly tells me why I love coin collecting. Some of your pieces are just great to look at.

PM sent for the grand prize coin giveaway.. hope I get another clue.

AND I was in your home state a couple of times.. does that count?

    Thanks

    Whitewashqtr

OK LM, I am ready... 6 clues for starting today.. 1 for having a coin as my icon and 2 for guessing the grand prize coin correctly for a total of 9 clues.

HAVE A GREAT DAY! THE CHOICE IS YOURS!!!!
  • lordmarcovanlordmarcovan Posts: 43,564 ✭✭✭✭✭
Whitewashqtr- what are your choices, please, and which Washington type do you want for your icon freebie? You have a total of seven clues coming to you. All you have to do is request the numbers, here on this thread...

Edit- never mind. I see you just did. They're on the way soon, via PM. Make that nine clues. Watchit, folks, I think a newbie player just moved into the lead!). image

Glad you're havin' fun with this. Me too. image

The prize coin's identity has been guessed. I will publish it momentarily. Of course, we still have a long way to go before someone guesses the identities of all 89 type coins and actually gets the prize...

    LM,

My guess is that it is #31 date is 1912, service is PCGS and the grade is MS-62.

You are correct, Dennis. RGL guessed it first. Thus endeth all speculation on what our grand prize coin is. Here it is. (Note that the coin has light gold toning, but is much nicer looking than the picture, which makes it look a tad dark).

    image

Here is the picture from my old PCGS Registry Modern Type Set, which is still bad, but shows both sides and the label.

    image

The coin is unlisted in MS62 on the PCGS price guide, but Numismedia said $88 last time I checked. I paid $60 for it, back in 1998 or so. If anyone wins the contest but doesn't like the coin, I will buy it back from the winner for $55. So if you win, you have the choice of this prize coin or $55 cash.

RGL was the first to guess it, via PM. Then you, Bikingnut. Then Whitewashqtr. Really, RGL was the first, but I will award two clues to each of you three. WWBillman guessed the Morgan dollar. Wrong coin, but he was right about the Titanic sinking in 1912. Trouble is, there were no Morgans struck from 1905 to 1920, until the final ones in 1921. So there is no 1912 Morgan dollar, even though I'll bet quite a few Morgans sank with the ship.

RGL and Bikingnut, pick your two free clues. Whitewashqtr has already made his selection and I need to PM those to him.

OK, eight clues going your way, Bikingnut. Some of you "Old Guard" players from the "warmup" round need to wake up soon, or these newbies are gonna trample you! (9 clues to Whitewashqtr and 8 to Bikingnut... yow!) image

Keets and dddangerousdan are two newbies who have yet to choose their first six free clues...

  • LM, for my 7/12 clues, I would like to request 58 and 67.

I have a coin for my icon, but that one was from the first 24, so if I get another choice to compensate for that, I choose 35.

I don't actually live in GA, but I am REAL close, does that count?

Comin' right up. It's nice to be able to collect pretty coins without spendin' any money, ain't it? image

I did this set the hard way, by buying the real coins. Took thousands of dollars and about four years. But I got to see both sides of 'em. image

By the way, folks, if you have some of the coins in text only and can give me all the correct info on 'em, I'll be happy to PM you the pictures. Jarrett ("hookedoncoins") is apparently keeping track by saving the pics, so he traded me a bunch of text info for the actual pictures. Again, you do not need the pictures to win, only the information contained in them, but if you have all the info on the coin yet lack the picture, I'll send you the pics if you PM me. But you must have all the correct information.

Dan: 51-56 it shall be. And you may have the Wheat cent, too. It is already public knowledge, like all the first 24 were, from yesterday's "warmup" round. Now the game is afoot, and I am amazed at how fast y'all are swapping clues. At this rate, it might not last the weekend! image

The Virtual Wheatie is a 1956, too, though without a repunched mintmark. It's a PCGS PR67 RD. Copy the LIST, or use the spreadsheet ClarkOfKent posted on the same thread. That way you will have all the commonly known coins, and can use the list or the spreadsheet to keep track of new additions to your virtual set.

Since you are new and since your Wheatie was already common knowledge, I'll give you 49 as well as 51-56, OK? image Seven clues. Add those to the coins already published in the main list, and you'll be well on your way...

To put a picture in a PM like I do:

When you are sending a PM, you will notice a little icon that looks like a tiny landscape picture, with a frame around it. Look at all that stuff at the top of your PM box. See it? Click that, and paste your URL (web address) of the picture in there. You get the URL's of pictures by using the method Whitewashqtr just described.

Wanna know what all that other jazz at the top of each message box is? Just hold your mouse cursor over each one for a second, without clicking on it. A little yellow box should pop up that tells you what it is. The help screens on these FuseTalk boards ain't bad, either. These are fantastic message boards, compared to others I have seen. As with anything else, it just takes a while to learn all the tricks. There is even a Testing Forum which you can practice on, and maybe even learn some other stuff... image

You need to make your two 7/13 selections, Whitewash. image

Oh, hang on. You recruited a new player. That means you get four picks.

Mansco- you get six picks as a new player. Welcome to the game. Plus you are entitled to see the Morgan dollar picture, since that is your icon. Six picks, plus the Morgan. Choose 'em. Do you know where to find the list, and have a pretty good idea of what is going on in the game? Any questions?

WWBillman- I don't believe you have gotten your two 7/13 picks yet, have you? If not, pick 'em quick, before I stagger off to bed in an hour or two. (***EDIT***: never mind. I just sent 'em.) I see you have published some of the clues in the open, so I will add those coins onto the list, since they are public knowledge now. This is perfectly OK to do, but try not to give away too much- we're gettin' into the hardball part of the game, now, not the friendly first-24 warmup round! image Keep on bein' nice and sharing 'em. But spread 'em around a bit more thinly, and in some other forums or threads. Make 'em work for it. Heheh. Number 66 is one that RGL was trying to schmooze out of me earlier, when you didn't give it to him. Now he gets it for free. You might have created a monster. Speaking of whom: RGL, where are ya? You can make your daily picks now... image

27 and 28 sent, Jarrett. And this thread has just hit 150, making it my most successful giveaway yet, in terms of interest.

For those of you who think 150 messages is a big thread, go check out VFcoin's "Moon Landing Conspiracy" or trozau's "Four Word Posts" threads on the Open Forum. Both well into the thousands. Who knows? You might even find some useful information buried in one of those longwinded, drivelous threads, later on... (hint, hint... don't forget to treasure hunt the other forums for clues, if you have tons of time to waste...) image

There are no clues currently buried in the 1,000+ messaged threads on the Open Forum (but maybe in some of the others). Maybe later I'll have to hit the infamous MLC or 4WP threads... also, the word treasure itself is a hint to where I will bury some clues later on this evening...

The Virtual Coinshop has closed until late afternoon or evening (or late night, if I get busy at work). Happy hunting, and don't forget to ask for your daily clues, SPECIFICALLY, BY NUMBER, so I can PM them to you when I return.

I'm off to update the list with the coins WWBillman so generously made public, then off to bed. ClarkOfKent, if you get time to update your spreadsheet with the new public-domain items, that would be great. Thanks.
