LM, I don't have any problems receiving PMs. I just can't send. So.... if I would happen to "collect" the whole set, is there an email address I can send the list to?

Heheh. Good one, a2labmom. Clark, when that time comes, my email address is in my profile. (Just click the little "spectacles" icon). I need to get Wayne, aka "newbiecollector" in on this one, too. He also has a PM problem, though. Maybe I will email him some clues later.
From here on, why don't we do it this way: each time a new player joins on this thread, he or she will of course get some clues via PM (or email, if he/she prefers). If that new player mentions the person who referred him or her, then the person who referred the new player will get two freebie clues (numbers of their choice, if possible). I plan to upload more pictures later tonight, maybe up to #50 or so.
#22 is the lowest-graded coin in the set, but also one of the rarest. It was a tough hole for me to fill. I wanted an F12 example, as that was the bottom grade goal I'd set for myself, but I had to settle for a lower grade on that one. Tough coin. The Bust dollar was tough, too. I bought what I thought was a nice raw F12, but ANACS graded that one VG8. I think it should have been VG10, if not F12. They lowballed it. You'll see it later.
I know I have PM'ed #22 to at least two different people today...
Clark, it's no imposition at all. I would gladly help out a fellow collector.
Can you receive PM's? The PC I'm on can't send e-mail, but I can receive it.

Yes, I can receive PMs... just can't send.

OK, good. You folks at the front of the race will be in charge of bringing the newcomers up to speed. Share info with the newcomers (or recruit some newcomers yourself) and I will give you 2 free clues from the next batch, if they mention your name.
When I go home tonight I will upload more pictures and the game will continue...
PS- Bill, if you really have all of the first 24, I suppose I can give you one freebie out of the next batch. But they won't be up until after Midnight Eastern time, when I get home and resume my nightowl habits. And I am being forced to use a creepin' slow dialup connection at home, until my DSL-friendly laptop is back in action. Blecch. Uploading pictures with dialup is like waiting for granite to erode...
Bill, you need not keep the pics, though if it is easier for you to save them that way, that's fine. I posted a list of the first 24 types earlier in this thread, for those of you who want to copy it or print it or whatever. All you will need to claim the prize is a complete list, with all the date, mintmark, grade, variety, and grading service info. If you prefer to just type that in, as I did for some of the coins on the list, that's fine. As long as you have all the correct info, the pictures are not necessary to win.
Anybody wanna create a blank spreadsheet for us to use, based on the list I posted earlier? I am not good enough at HTML or whatever to do that. If someone else is, and creates a good "scorecard" for people to save on their computer (to add the necessary info to as they get it), that would be cool... and worth a few freebie clues... Remember, I will be posting the rest of the list later, so you will have some idea of what coins you'll be needing. The types making up the whole set will not be kept secret- it's the dates, grades, and so on of the actual coins that you will need to find. An ideal scorecard would have a column for the following info: set sequence number, type, coin date & mint, variety or pedigree (if any), and grade/grading service. Some coins I wrote little notes about, below the pictures. Generally, this info will not be necessary.
Welcome, Drizzt. I gotta head home from work, now, but see how many of the first 24 you can pick up on your own. When I get home, if you're still logged in, I'll be happy to start you off with a few of the "new wave" (#25 and up, when they are uploaded). Perhaps you can then trade one or two of these for the entire first 24, since a few people have all those.
Later on tonight and into the wee hours in my time zone, I will be uploading more coins, from #25 on up to #48 or #50, perhaps. Then the scramble begins anew. Talk nicely to WWBillman or a2labmom or one of the folks who has all of the first 24. I'll PM you something to swap with them later.
Stockwiz just joined the game via PM. I gave him the first dozen. Y'all help him along with some of the others. The first 24 coins should be shareable now. When the "new wave" and subsequent waves are up, then everyone can be cutthroat and secretive.
All requests for new clues must be made by posting here, in the original ("master") thread.
All of the first 24 coins are public in the list, now. That was your warmup round. Now the game begins in earnest!
I also put the picture of my icon coin in the list. You have seen the reverse a zillion times; now you can see the obverse!
There were 735 proof halves originally struck in 1898. This is one of only two that PCGS has graded Proof 63 Cameo (PR63 CAM). Like many of these coins, it looks wretched in the picture, which does it little justice. Like the 1837 large cent (#6 in the set), it came from the Benson collection. There is one other pedigreed coin still waiting to be found in the set (not a Benson pedigree). This half is the only coin I have ever paid a four-figure pricetag for, though there was one other that was worth four figures. Once upon a time, this coin sold for $8! (of course, that was in 1944. I reckon eight bucks was a bunch of money then!) I guess you can tell which coin is my "baby", huh?
And since I did promise to share the last coin in the set, here it is:
Construct and Drizzt, y'all should be on the same ground with everyone else, now, if you copy the list. 26 coins as of this moment. I will be sharing less in public and more via PM or email now. However, there will still be a few new clues scattered around the various coin-related forums now and then...maybe even a few on the general forums...
OK, I previously promised a few free clues to some folks. I am waiting for your specific requests:
WWBillman: 2, for being the first to complete the 24-coin "warmup" round.
HookedOnCoins: 1, for doing a good job recruiting new players and for generosity in sharing clues. Robertpr said you helped him out and that I should give you a pat on the back.
Robertpr: 1, for your thread offering to share clues with newcomers. Of course, you were only offering the first 24 coins, and those are all public info now. I made your offer redundant, but you get a free request of one of the coins from the full list.
GaCoinNewbie: 1. You should know which one that is. Request it and you shall have the picture and full info on it.
RGL: 1, the War nickel. Ask and ye shall receive. Since early proof Jeffersons are your forte, I had promised you a picture of that one. I might be cruel and make you fish for the regular Jefferson, though.
These freebies may be claimed by posting your requests here in the "master" thread. These are in addition to the daily two requests each player is entitled to. But remember, I will not PM your daily coins, or these specific freebies mentioned above, until you request them by posting in this thread. Too many PM's to remember! As I mentioned before, if you miss a day or two on the forums, you may still claim your daily two from each of those days. And if I have to be absent from the forums myself, I will make up for it when I return. If I disappear for two days, then everyone will get four clues on the day I return, for example. Newbies who join from here on get six free clue requests to start off with, then two a day like everyone else. The referral bonus of two free clues still stands, if your newbie referral mentions your name.
Is everyone up to speed, now, or have I confused anyone? Questions?
OK, Severo, you caught me just before I crawled off to bed. It's daylight outside now. *Sigh*. Another all-nighter. PM on the way. This should put you two coins ahead of everyone else, with 28, assuming you copied the list I linked to. Being on the other side of the globe from me can have its advantages...you get to sneak in while all the Americans are sleeping. (This American should have gone to bed a long time ago!)
RGL- you caught me just as I was closing up shop for a little overdue shuteye. You have the War nickel proof and two other requests coming to you this afternoon when I awaken. (I've already closed the page with all my images on it). Post a request for the other two you want for your daily quota, and I will send those and the Warnick when I rejoin the land of the living. (Late afternoon/early evening, hopefully, unless I get clobbered at work...)
Ok... I have no life. I created an Excel spreadsheet with all the types entered & columns laid out per LM's suggestions. I also pasted that into a Word document, for those who don't do Excel. All of the coins that are now known to be in the 'public domain' have already been entered.
Here's the problem..... Not only can I not PM, I can't seem to attach files, either. So, if anyone wants these files you'll have to email me. When I get home tonight I'll probably post them on my web site, both as downloadable files and as a web page that you can just print.
I'd like to request my two clues for Friday (7/12). I also have a Morgan dollar for an icon. Have had it since I joined. So if you could send me another clue, I'd appreciate it. Since I only have the first 24, 73, and 89, any clues that you send me will be great! Thanks.
Good afternoon. I am now in my chair at work (the Room Service office of The Lodge At Sea Island Golf Club.) My opening chores are all caught up, so now the Virtual Coinshop is open for business (as long as nobody decides they suddenly want Room Service).
Y'all be sure to request your 7/12 clues. Everyone gets two a day, new players get six requests. I see some new faces. Welcome!
All clue requests should be posted here, and I will tell who got what, so everyone has a decent idea of what the others have gotten via PM.
Don ("ajaan") has a good swap thread for virtual coin clues on the World & Ancient Coin Forum, better known to collectors here as "The Darkside" (one of my favorite haunts). I will scatter a few free clues in some of my other haunts, too.
Hmm. Let's see... who do I owe some clues to? Time to catch up...
I've only got the commonly "known" ones, so anything you could send my way would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I complied with you wishes for a spreadsheet (see post further up). I'm not looking for brownie points or anything..... hehehe.
Upcoming PM's (I'm struggling to catch up- had another work-related chore pop up there for a moment):
Severo: You were the first to claim your 7/12 clues, so we're square there.
Drizzt: sorry to hear you are leaving us, but the game will most likely still be going at noon on Monday, so if you return then, be sure to request two clues for each day you missed. Beg the others really pitifully, and someone might share a few more to catch you up a little. But by Monday, the competition might be really cutthroat. Maybe I will take pity...
RGL: that's 31, 35, and 44. PM on the way shortly.
WWBillman: four virtual coin clues (64, 65, 66, & 67). Comin' right up.
rtgjeg: Don't forget to ask for your two daily clues for today (7/12), plus the Morgan dollar (virtual coin #84), since that is your icon- or do I understand that you want me to pick the clues for you?
Whitewashqtr: Welcome to the Virtual Type Set game! Any questions? As a new player, you are entitled to six virtual coins of your choice, from this list. You also have a Wahington quarter as your icon, so you get one of the Washington quarter virtual coins, too (a total of seven clues!). I can't tell which type your icon is- the silver? No matter. Just pick six coins you want to see, and one Washington quarter type. Seven virtual coins. You are coming in just as the game is getting started for real, and 7 clues might actually put you ahead of some of the others, since the first 24 are all public info. On each day hereafter, you may request two more clues. Don't forget to swap info with others and hunt around on the forums for more clues. If another player brought you into the game, tell their name and they get two clues.
mact: pick two coins for today's clues. You will also receive coin #45, the Mercury dime, since that is your icon on the forums.
ClarkOfKent: post your spreadsheet (or a link to it) on the list thread. Whether or not it earns the official LordM stamp of approval, the effort you put in is worth two free clue requests in addition to today's 7/12 two. That's four virtual coin clues. Ask and Ye shall receive. And if I like the spreadsheet and others deem it helpful, then you might get another freebie later.
Bikingnut: Welcome! Like Whitewashqtr above, you are entitled to six clues of your choice from this list, since you are a new player. Tomorrow and thereafter until the game is up, you may request two clues a day. Again, Don't forget to swap info with others and hunt around on the forums for more clues. If another player brought you into the game, tell their name and they get two clues. Questions?
ajaan: you are already taken care of. Hint: you might want to periodically check some of your own threads in Dark places...
hookedoncoins: 80 and 83, comin' up. You still are entitled to another selection, I believe, since I promised a "freebie" to you for being a good recruiter and sportsman, in helping the newbies along. (Today's newbies actually will have a slight edge on everyone at first!)
There. Did I forget anyone? Let me go off and send a bunch of PM's. BBL.
BTW, everyone, RGL thinks he has figured out what the grand prize giveaway coin is. He PM'ed me a guess. I asked him if he is totally sure and wants to make that his final guess, since there is one other unpublished coin type that might fit some of the earlier clues about the prize coin...
Once someone has guessed for sure what the prize coin will be, I will make that one public and post it on the list. Of course, the first to figure it out gets two free clues, to bring 'em closer to actually acquiring the real prize coin in addition to the virtual one...
RGL, are you sure, or do you want to take your final guess at the prize coin's identity later?

I really appreciate the generous offer. But, I'm afraid I just can't bring myself to impose upon you like that.
From here on, why don't we do it this way: each time a new player joins on this thread, he or she will of course get some clues via PM (or email, if he/she prefers). ajaan: you are already taken care of.
BBL.
58 and 59 please.
thanks,
Matt
Everyone else who requested coins by number should have them now. I see a few replies over on the list thread, requesting clues.
ALL CLUE REQUESTS MUST BE MADE ON THIS, THE "MASTER" THREAD.
Otherwise I'm gonna have a hard time keeping up.
I still await the specific requests of a few folks mentioned above...
I have 1-25 and 73 & 89 if anyone needs what I have, i will swap 1 for 1........
No way is coin 69 from your birthyear, unless you're really old...
