Here is one of the first, an upgrade on the denarius that represents Commodius in my "all emperors" collection.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Canada 1 cent 1859 Wide 9/8 in CCCS 63RB (seller's photos, but I think it should cross with our hosts at 62 or 63). A very scarce die pair, this one in mint state. In my die catalog for these, published in 2008, my random sampling indicated that these made up about 2% of the W9/8 mintage. The obverse die broke very early.
Numismatic author & owner of the Uncommon Cents collections. 2011 Fred Bowman award winner, 2020 J. Douglas Ferguson award winner, & 2022 Paul Fiocca award winner.
Not really a purchase, but a successful crossover to our hosts. 1833 Greek one lepton MS65+ RD , population one with one finer.
!
And 5 more from Stack’s including two gold coins, a French 1857A PCGS MS64 and a Greek 1884-A 20 drs gold that I also own in PCGS MS64 but this one was in an old small Anacs holder and it reminded me of the time when my entire collection was inside them.
Finally a few notes from a very old Darksider, but young age wise, now an auctioneer with the only US platform devoted to World banknotes. Here’s a Turkish one (PMG 63) that I swear to you, it looks like a carpet if not put into scale. The joys of the unfocused collector.
Uncertain Early Arsacid Kings

Billon Tetradrachm
O: Crude bust left with long, pointed beard and curly hair dressed in a curved pattern from forehead to the nape of the neck, topped by a tuft of hair bound with a diadem, its ties falling behind, star in crescent above anchor with two crossbars, pellet to left of anchor.
R: Diademed, bearded head left (degenerated), degraded legend around, forming square frame around the head.

1839 Bolivia 1 Scudo Top Pop Ex Whittier Collection. I just love the design of these pieces. Found out that the phoenix design was used in the constitution of Peru in 1823, and also it was used as logo of a Peruvian newspaper in late 1820's, which criticized Bolivia during those years. Interesting that Bolivia used that design on this coin, when the Peru Bolivia confederation was getting dissolved. The design Bolivia used has the Phoenix facing the other side.
It's looking like it's going to be a year filled with numismatic eye candy given all of the beautiful coins already purchased, and we're just in January.

1st purchase of the year. What’s not to like about these for $150.

Happy new year everyone!
Insanely nice raw 8R find (currently at PCGS). Seems like a lock PL to me
And just won this flashy Pillar 8R last night in the Stack's Bowers auction.
I watched the auction last night, saw that lot come up, said, "Wow!" and watched it go off to the races. Congrats!

1853 Peru 4 Escudos Top Pop. Ex Lissner Collection. Lost it at auction, found it on the floor 2 months later.
Don't you just hate to buy from dealers who outbid their clients?
That said, for this coin, I would have!

I was not client of the dealer who had this piece, what's good is that paid the same it went on auction > @pruebas said:

Unfortunately came away without anything from the NYINC auctions. Prices were strong in the material I follow
Did win this a couple days ago though, which will serve as a consolation prize, and my first purchase for 2022!
