Nice 57 Vette!
Yes it is!! Some Corvette enthusiasts consider the 1957 to be the perfect Corvette year. I think this one is as close to perfection as you'll find. If I had this one, I think I'd spend some sweet time with weekend cruising and even just sitting nearby looking at it. I once had a 1969 and a 1973, there is something magical about driving those cars, I guess its the power at your foot, and the mellow rumble of the mufflers. You just feel good driving one, tunes cranked up, wind and sun in your face...beautiful thing!!
Was your 69 a big block 427? I love the early C3's! Always wanted a code 900 Tuxedo Black 68 but very few were made, to find an actual numbers matching code 900 68 is like searching for a unicorn! Almost bought one from a police officer in Idaho about 15 years ago but at the time I thought him asking 20K was a little steep, that was one I wish I could have back! Can't find a decent 68 for under 30K now if you're lucky. I now just have an "07, used to have an 82 but we actually donated it to the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green about 10 years ago. It was a bit on the rare side and they actually needed that year for their collection, we love that museum!
No, my 69 was pretty much standard, no pics. However, attached is a pic of my 73. Notice the added 69 option side pipes, I thought a perfect touch for the car. It was a standard 350, but I tweaked it a bit with a Holley 780, excel ignition and wires, and hooker headers. I used to have cherry bomb mufflers, loved that sound!! I spent a lot of time jetting and re jetting the carb, finally got it just right and foolishly drove it down I-85 south of Atlanta and hit 146 on the odo. Boy that white passing lines were flying by. I was only at 146 for a few seconds and then realized there wouldn't be much of me if I blew a tire or lost control. Crazy stuff you do!
Nice that you had such a rare vette to donate to Bowling Green.
Do you live in Idaho?
Me, back in the day, car was just a few months old then.
The day I almost died...small truck hit me early morning, dark and raining. It was so pathetic to hear the anti freeze hiss and hit the ground, the engine coughing to stay alive, but it was toast. Sad, sad day. Lucky to be here.!

That was one nice 73! Sorry for your accident. Glad you're ok now. Were you able to salvage her? I like the 73 models particularly the Ontario Orange ones, the last year of the chrome bumper! Our 82 was a code 13 (silver) which was a low production color number for that year. Black interior with an 8 track! Stock 350/200 hp cross-fire fuel injection only used in 82 and 84 models. It was a very low vin number also (188) and was one of the first Vettes produced in Bowling Green, Corvette production left St Louis for Bowling Green that year. We rarely used it but on weekends and occasional car shows and that's when we ended up donating to the museum where we were already members. We're in Florida but I came across that 68 in Idaho on the Corvette Forum where it was listed. So now I just tool around in the 07, base stock 364 LS2 400 hp, totally refined power compared to the 82!

Here's our 82 silver shark!
That is one sweet 82 !! Hope it didn't get hammered in the sink hole thing in Bowling Green!!
I ordered my 73, and got that wonderful thrill that only a new corvette owner could really appreciate...the call from the dealership that "your corvette came in".
As for my accident, I was surprised they didn't total it. I was in the Atlanta Corvette Club at the time, and one of the members had a Corvette repair shop. BIG MISTAKE to take it there!! The work was shoddy, the paint job spider-webbed, one of my headlights pointed up, never drove correctly. I was being transferred and had little time to have all the corrections made, and they were slow as snails putting it back together.
I asked about Idaho because I'm planning a 10 day road trip next June to just cruise around and see the scenery.
You ever watch Mecum Auctions? They roll some incredible machines through there, from 53 to current. Surprisingly, the 70s-90s vettes are reasonable as the bids roll on, unless you get into a bidding war. I think the buyer/seller vig really adds up when the hammer falls, but, they really have some beautiful Corvettes roll through.
Tried to convince the wife to get a "weekend cruiser", like a late 90s or so, but the response is always, "you've had two, why do you need another?". Enjoy your Vette!!
and yet another "Coin Toss Loss" to add to my total. way to go Staley, how's that 4th down-the-analytics-say-go-for-it percentages working out for you?? if that Rookie would have trusted historic logic over analytics the Chargers would be in first place right now, instead, they probably just ended their season after game 17.

I know that the best NFL coaches have people they trust, in their ear, during a game, and are smart enough to listen to them but also brave enough to ignore them sometimes too. But not every team is set up this way. @keets your comment made me think about baseball, and the relationship between the Manager and the Bench Coach. Some of these guys maybe need a Bench Coach that tails them all game, an old school guy who can whisper in their ear and let them know how they see things.
as fans we tend to admire the "no guts, no glory" approach, but in the long run it harms the Team. last night might be a good example, especially after that blown victory opportunity by Harbaugh --- after the first stop at the goal line, and surely after the second, Staley should have kicked the Field Goal. to be repeatedly stopped inside the 5-yard line with no points only hurts your Team and empowers the opponent.
Bert Convy here. so, here's the dealio. i'm leaving town tomorrow morning (Sat) and won't be returning home until Monday evening. therefore, things will go unmanaged here for a few days. to this point, everyone has their week 15 picks in with the exception of @zippcity (need Sunday's picks), @Steven59 (need Sunday's picks), and @Canes8387899101 (need Saturday's & Sunday's picks). if there is any possible way that you three amigos can get your selections in to me before the end of the day, or early tomorrow morning at the very latest, that would be mahvelous. i will then be able to post everyone's picks in spreadsheet form, as per usual, before i jet. if that's not possible, i'm going to post everything i have received before i take off -- even if it's incomplete. simply chime in with your remaining selections before kickoff, as per usual, and i will clean things up when i get home.
and because the covid-19/delta/urbanmeyer/omicron virus is creating a very fluid situation with teams & games, i fully expect some of you to want to make some changes. that's perfectly fine. just make sure you post them publicly for everyone to see.
and finally, just to reiterate, there is a prize for the winner. i initially said a $100 spending spree on ebay for a piece of cardboard. after some thought, i'm going to fine-tune things a touch. i wasn't thinking about it at the time, but i now realize that there are probably some of you who don't collect cards. if that happens to be the case, and if coins happen to be your thing instead, you may go that route. i figure since we're congregating on a coin & card jabber site, we should try and stick with the central theme.
i think i've covered all the bases for now. everyone have a good weekend, don't do anything i wouldn't do, and i'll catch you guys on the flip side.π»

I love the Mecum auctions! When me and the wife were NCRS members we would drive up to their annual Orlando meet every january and it was usually the same weekend as the Orlando Mecum auction which was nearby on US 192, so we made a weekend out of it usually! That's a shame about the shoddy repair work you received on your 73, that's a real bummer. Do you live in Atlanta? I ask because the place we bought our 82 is Buy A Vette off of I-285. As my knowledge of these stunning machines grew I realized we much overpaid for her, but we immensely enjoyed our time with her! She was purchased near total numbers matching and it was years of challenge getting her back to total numbers matching! And we donated her to the museum after the sinkhole thankfully.

In a time of so much uncertainty, thank you Mr. Convy for bringing some stability to this place. Have a good weekend sir!

I used to live in Deland, FL when I was an Air Traffic Controller at Daytona Beach Airport. I now live between Atlanta and Augusta, about 6 miles south of I-20 on lake Oconee. I don't live "on" the lake, but have lake privileges at our dock area.
Nice area, lots of retirees in 4 different communities. typical boating and fishing. Reynolds Plantation is just across the street and has several celebs quietly living the lake style. Ben Roethlisberger has a home there, and Carrie Underwood got married there, so that side of the road is pretty upscale. I'm very familiar with Atlanta, lived in the area over 20 years. Spent many, many a day driving with the crazies on I-285.
The workmanship on my Corvette taught me a hard lesson. Be very wary of having any "close friends" do work on anything you cherish. Not good memories there. Glad you missed the sinkhole debacle!! Enjoy your Corvette...I still work on the possibilities, but not lookin' too good.
ok compadres, the picks i have to this point are now up. the others will roll in in due time.
thanks to @Steven59 for reminding everyone about the schedule change -- i have also included the revised sked in my initial post way up above. whoever it was that said they wished there would be NFL games every day of the week...........well, be careful what you wish for
Sorry for the late picks. Last week teaching school before Christmas break is just super crazy. Enjoy your weekend!

I hope you can enjoy this break! We chatted a little before, if you remember my wife is a HS teacher. So I know exactly what you are saying. She has things down in a way that it is easier than it used to be, but still crazy. But she talks about some co-workers who are really going crazy with it.

I hope you can enjoy this break! We chatted a little before, if you remember my wife is a HS teacher. So I know exactly what you are saying. She has things down in a way that it is easier than it used to be, but still crazy. But she talks about some co-workers who are really going crazy with it.
Merry Christmas!
Thank you! The teaching part I have down after 25 years of it. It's just mentally draining to make teenagers care about not taking the week before Christmas break off, and messing up their grades. It's been tough, especially after last year when we were teaching virtually, to motivate some of them to just turn in any work. I probably care too much about whether they do their work, which stresses me out, but if I didn't care I would be a lousy teacher. One of my students did buy me a Christmas present, which was a box that had different mixers in it. When he told to open it in class on Friday I had a funny look on my face, since at first I wasn't sure if their was alcohol mixed in already, and I would be fired for having this in my classroom! He then told me, "Coach don't worry there isn't any alcohol in them!" Perfect gift as I will partaking in his gift over break!

I was once an Adjunct Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL. Only taught two semesters, so I'm pretty much a Rookie here. Taught Intro to Air Traffic Control and Non-RADAR Approach Control Procedures. Some of my students took the class as an elective, but soon found out its really serious business. I bumped a few B students to As, as they were really trying their best. One guy earned an F. He liked to cut class, and he thought the final (he skipped on) was gonna be the same one the other students got. I just made his exam much harder (but fair). His final average was lower than 60. Somebody wasted money on paying his classes. No motivation, attitude, just cruising through...sound familiar??
and yet another loss in typical Cleveland Browns fashion: when all they need to win a game is one first down they actually think it's more important to run the ball and take time off the clock. it must be something having to do with the franchise because they repeat the same scenario year after year no matter who the players are or who the coaches are.
you'd think they have plays designed specifically for that situation. it's ridiculous.

I just looked at the NFL standings and realized that the 2021 AFC North is now the 2020 NFC East. this week will be interesting as the Ravens visit Cincinnati and the winner will likely be the odds on Division favorite. add to this an interesting week 18 where the Bengals visit Cleveland and the Steelers head to Baltimore, and it's reasonable to assume a Division winner might be 9-8.

Loyalty to the Browns is why I pick them just about every week. The only time I don't pick them is their bye weeks. They can still win out and make the Super Bowl.

The start of this KC and Chargers game is absolutely bizarre.
100% Bizarre
75 yard kickoff return and the guy literally trips over his own 2 feet to avoid a sure TD.
Then 2 successful runs by Ekeler then they decide to throw it 3 times in a row and the result is 3 drops in a row.
Mike Williams gets banged up since he was immediately hit by 3 defenders.
The next guy catches a sure TD pass and drops it untouched and they are bringing the backboard out for him.
What the hell is going on?
Damn, I am a Buick guy -

Enjoy your Vette!!
........
Ask her again. This time reply "Because the third time's the charm." When it works, let us all know.
and yet another "Coin Toss Loss" to add to my total. way to go Staley, how's that 4th down-the-analytics-say-go-for-it percentages working out for you?? if that Rookie would have trusted historic logic over analytics the Chargers would be in first place right now, instead, they probably just ended their season after game 17.
...........

And we donated her to the museum after the sinkhole thankfully.
......
Have a great Christmas and New Year!
