incredible, Matthew Stafford just threw a Pick-6 for the 3rd consecutive game. that's got to be some kind of record, the kind you don't want. it looks like The LA Rams, for all their spending and marquee players, are going down again with OBJ and Von Miller as after-thoughts. in the meantime, Stafford is looking not much better than the old Detroit days, although he did throw a beautiful long bomb for a TD today.

Last nights game was interesting, aside from Pollards long TD run the running game was stuffed hard. I laughed when Aikman was stating the obvious that the Cowboys were doing everything they could to let the Saints back in the game, it also blows my mind that Payton stuck with Hill over Sieman when he clearly could not throw the ball with his broken finger. Why the โBoys opted to throw incompletions late in the game when they needed to melt the clock was bizarre. Luckily for Dallas Hill kept targeting Dallas players in the passing game.

As I have said, McCarthy is not a great HC. The changes and shake-up that he brought were good in ways for an organization that had grown stagnant. But in terms of coaching duties and creating an environment of excellence, as far as I know and observe, McCarthy is lacking. Despite that, they are succeeding because of deep talent and a lot of good coaching at other spots. I listen to and read a lot of sports opinion here in DFW, and I have not heard any consensus opinion on why Dak is struggling a bit. The excessive string of three and outs last night, when the Cowboys were looking to close out the game, should be of concern to any Cowboys fans.

Well Dan Quin was running the show last night, the play calling was on Kellen Moore regardless, in the booth Aikman was suggesting that Quin step in and shut Moore down on his stupid pass plays when everyone in the country knew that the only play was to run the ball. The Saints have a great D but with Lamb, Cooper, Gallup, Zeke and Pollard they should have no problems lighting up the scoreboard. The play Calling to me suggested that they wanted the Saints to at least cover the spread or make it a โMade for TVโ event. Hill just couldnโt throw with a broken finger but Payton was on board with him throwing interception after interception, it should have been a 3 point game.

I will suggest an opinion: the way Teams play in this iteration of the NFL, it is all about success in the passing game, playing the "percentages" and hoping to succeed.
a trend which appears to have played out well leading up to this season's overwhelming domination is Teams focusing on stopping the running game, stopping passes of more than 15 yards and forcing a QB to be quick, accurate and opportunistic in his "reads" as the game(s) develop. the defenses today will tend to stack the box, disguise blitzes and alternate man/zone coverage to find what works best. the approach seems to be to allow short passes, stop the run and hope for an incompletion to stall a drive and force a punt/field goal attempt.
one very disconcerting aspect of the NFL today --- Teams faced with 3rd and two who almost always opt for a pass. there is almost no confidence in what was once a vital part of the game. Teams with dominant offensive lines and the best runners have looked at the analytics and decided it is easier to figure out how to pass for that two yards than to run for it.
three yards and a cloud of dust has turned into five yards on a quick slant.

I can't say this with total confidence, but based on things I've heard since the game, some of the poor play decisions would be Dak audibling out of the play call/s.
@perkdog Let me add as well that your suggestion that the game was intentionally called in such a way to keep things close, etc is spot on and wouldn't surprise me in the least.

That could be possible, I honestly didnโt even think of the audible thing, either way it was hugely suspicious in my opinion.
It just makes me so curious how some play calling even happens in certain situations, we are all armchair generals but our thought process is 100% better than what happens on the field sometimes, to the point that itโs confusing.

โMade for TVโ. My buddy said that while we were watching a game earlier in the year, I think it was Tampa Bay vs Dallas week 1 and we both knew with absolute certainty that Tampa was going to drive for the winning FG, you can script it sometimes and itโs bizarre

Mr.Algorithm can you tell me what the safest bet/s are for this Sunday?
Please and Thank You ๐
mr. algorithm.........i like the sound of that
honestly, and you're not gonna like this, and i promise i'm not saying this to merely stir the pot, but all week my instincts have been screaming a Buffalo win on Monday night. take that with a pinch of salt.
but seeing as you'd never bet against New England in 10 lifetimes, how about keeping it simple and not spread yourself too thin? try to avoid the outlier result that is bound to happen the more games you include. you won't get a lot of bang for your buck on this one, but i can't envision any of the following 3 teams losing on Sunday:
Arizona
Tompa
LA Rams
maybe a little sprinkle on a 3-teamer? i haven't placed a wager since week 6, so admittedly i'm not much help at this time. i had a good run with golf & the nfl thru 6 weeks, then my instincts screamed vehemently once again and said get out. so i did. all i currently have going are 3 futures bets, one of which is already a done deal and one of the better wagers i have ever made: Arizona over 8 wins. but that bet should come as no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention

I donโt bet with it against the Patriots and this goes back to my fantasy football days.
I watched the Chargers vs. Bengals game and it's a sad commentary on "fair weather fans" that at the completion of the game the Cincinnati stadium was almost empty.
I would question what that says about the fans?? the Bengals are playing way, way better than me and probably everyone else thought they would, the Team deserves a little better support than that. if I was Cincy management and Cincy media I would make it a point to call them out. it's normal to see that at College games where one Team is getting swamped, but this game was still very competitive up until about 10 minutes left in the game.
