I predict the Cowboys will win the NFC East and crush the Eagles in the process, forcing Mr. K to a life of isolated bird watching. They're waiting Steve.

I was dreading the start of the season last year with the Vikings huge turnover on defense. This year I am excited to see what the new additions will do.

Offensive line still looks to be a problem, our top picks for Left Tackle and Guard have not impressed,

We should be in the mix for a division title!

My main concern is Rogers, who is probably even MORE intent on performing well this year because of his contract issues. After seeing what he did last year, it scares me at what he might do.

I think the Bucs and Chiefs take a step back this year, Green Bay makes another run for it and comes up short of the Super Bowl again, Tennessee might be the team to beat, Mac Jones takes over in New England by week 5. Best Rookie QB will be… Trey Lance

    ..........
No step back for the GOAT, imo. And I actually can foresee the Chiefs being better than last year, in a way. As in looking like they have their eyes on the prize, built more for the SB than just to run the table - if that makes sense. But that could mean a less than record.

Well you know who I’m pulling for. On the Bills Mafia site the thought is anything but a Super Bowl win and the season is a bust. Don’t get me wrong, we all want to see our team win the Super Bowl. But if the Bills do what they did last year I won’t go into a deep dark 8 month depression. They won 15 games, they’re young, were exciting and had a ton of fun. The offense was explosive, no 3 yards and a cloud of dust 14-10 games. Man it was fun! So yes let’s win a Super Bowl but no it won’t be a failure if they don’t.

So it’s still early for my futures predictions and I still will post my final predictions after the last preseason game. Here’s my thoughts pre preseason.

    Wins/Loses
    Carolina over 7.5
    Buffalo over 10.5
    Raiders over 7
    Cleveland over 9.5
    Jacksonville under 6.5
    Seattle under 10
    Miami under 9.5
    Cincinnati under 6.5
    Arizona under 8.5
    Denver under 8.5
    Indy under 10

    Week 1
    Buffalo-6
    Jacksonville-2.5
    Carolina-2.5
    Tennessee-3
    Minnesota-3
    Packers +2.5

I already put in a huge wager on the Packers +2.5 over the Saints. No Drew Brees. I just think no matter who starts Green Bay can put score them.

Being a lowly Washington Football Team fan, I am hopeful they can pull off some wins in 2021. Brutal schedule though, that's not going to help. The 17 game schedule will get some getting used to. It will be strange with final records being 10-7, 9-8, etc I wish they had gone to 2 exhibition games and an 18 game regular season. The exhibition season is dreadful and I like having an even number of games. Supposedly the WFT will announce the new team name in early 2022. I am hoping for Redwolves or Reddogs, just to have a bit of continuity with Red-something, but knowing Dan Snyder, the new name will probably suck.

The New York Giants will play 16 games while in a bad division.

With all four teams having multiple holes, I have no guess as to what will happen though I lean toward Dallas at this exact moment in August.

Nothing wrong with being a WFT fan. I can guarantee this. Fitzmagic will make it very interesting. He can be really, really good. Great at times. The defense is first rate. Just give Fitzmagic a contract week by week. Anything over that and he takes the money and honors it with 6 interceptions the next week.

The Hydrants are off to Sofi Stadium today for the Rams game. Game starts at 7 p.m. I plan to arrive around 3 o'clock to check the place out. I hear its quite the place. AND.......my inside source came through with flying colors! I got my parking space assignment yesterday. I've got my own number and it's in the first row closest to the entrance! V.I.P.! He said he would and he did! Ten very excited Ram fanatic Hydrants will be there tonight! Also....I have been receiving many packages lately from the Rams organization. Freebies! Hats, jerseys, flags, Ram jewelry for the girls, a scale model of the stadium, discount coupons.....and more. Thanks, Rams! Hey, I'M EXCITED! Football is back!!!!!!

I AFC team that I root for is the Bills. I like that kid at quarterback but I'm not convinced he's as good as a lot of people think. Still, I do hope he takes them to the big game.......but......there's this guy in Kansas City who I suspect is going to have a major say about it all.

P.S. Hey, Perky.....the Bills have to get to the Super Bowl first before they can win it. One thing at a time. Keep your fingers crossed.

Yes, always have to keep in mind it is only preseason. That being said, very few bright spots- I'm hoping for better play out of the starters in the next game since we'll be seeing them for the first time.

based on last season, the Draft, off-season acquisitions and the pre-season thus far I think the Cleveland Browns will be tough at the line of scrimmage on both sides, though injuries are always a factor. the OL was one of the best last season and should remain at that level, the DL should be improved from the Draft and the Clowney signing.

as mentioned about injuries, seeing Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt play an entire season together would be nice and having OBJ healthy and playing is a plus. win, lose or draw, I'm anxious for the KC opener and it's reasonable that it could be a preview of the eventual AFC Championship Game.

They did rest 30 players that will make the final roster so no need to panic.

    ........
As an outsider, non-Browns fan looking in, I almost would think that the team would be better off without OBJ. He is obviously a huge talent, but I feel that way nonetheless. I am curious, what is your take on him and what is the local media's take on him?

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

it has been hard to evaluate him with Cleveland for a number of reasons.
--- to his credit, OBJ is very fast, has good hands, the ability to get open and get good yards after the catch. to his detriment is the fact that every Team knows these things and OBJ has shown a lack of patience when it comes to waiting for the ball. last season when he seemed to be adjusting to the new norm he got hurt.
--- Baker Mayfield has changed as a QB during the first two years that OBJ was here. he has matured and will benefit this season with some consistency in Coaching. Baker may have "forced" the ball to OBJ in 2019 but with Stefanski and Van Pelt that has been different.
--- the overall offense has changed dramatically since 2019. the Browns have a more consistent, solid running game and they're deep at receiver. Jarvis Landry may be better than OBJ while Rashard Higgins, Donavan Peoples-Jones and KhaDarel Hodge have all proven themselves as solid receivers that Mayfield can depend on.

here's what I think happened in a nutshell. when Cleveland got OBJ there was a different mentality with the Team from top to bottom. that all changed with Stefanski. OBJ came as a known quantity, developed and is probably as good as he is going to be. Mayfield has gotten better, Chubb was drafted and turned out to be a beast, they got Kareem Hunt, Landry and the others mentioned above all developed and continue to get better. OBJ needs to figure out where he fits into that scheme, accept his new role and make the most of the opportunities he's given.

if he can't do that and he becomes disruptive I believe they won't hesitate to trade him.

I know it's only preseason, but it felt good to see the Panthers shred the Steelers 34-9 last night, I've suffered so long. When you get them down, don't let up!

It’s just preseason but the time off hasn’t affected Josh Allen. He throws a 35 yard rocket that didn’t get 8’ off the ground.

I watched the Browns game last night and am thankful there were no injuries and that some of the offensive players had a chance to stretch their legs. all looked good but it was hard to judge since Atlanta has played the entire pre-season very close to the belt, not wanting to give Teams any film of what they may do.

Cleveland was a little more open although they still seemed to be running more zone defense than I'd expect in the regular season. that's probably attributed to the fact that they needed to see some DB's work in packages. on offense they did a lot of bootlegs with each QB, nothing fancy and again it probably had to do with the OL they were trying to shake out.

as much as everyone wants no pre-season because of injuries, it's essential for new players and rookies. just like some players don't look good at the "combines" there are players who don't standout in practice. they need live action.

    I’ll say it:

Football is not as good as it used to be; I’m not an old curmudgeon or anything. I’m all for a safe game. That said, part of the appeal of football is its brutality. So when every year, more rule changes are announced that mean you can’t hit guys, touch guys or look a guy directly in the eye without getting a flag, my interest has waned.

I don’t see it having much to do with my team, the Giants, because they have never been a dynasty type of team and I always enjoyed the games anyway. And by all accounts, they have a shot because all four teams in the division have major issues.

But it’s hard to me to get excited and even with fantasy football it’s more going through the motions than anything.

one thing about watching the pre-season games is that it gives a little "substance" to what we read and what is said in interviews. understanding that, the Browns look to have better depth at some key positions and the Team seems faster all over. on Offense, they chose to keep a Rookie named Demetric Felton who can play RB, WR and return kicks. on Defense the line should be much improved even though Clowney and Garrett didn't play in pre-season. also, the overall speed on defense should help.
