A Sheridan Downey purchase, MB44, FUN 2017. Sheridan's words...
"From the Davignon collection, found on the bourse floor during the 2003 ANA Convention. A blast of vibrant luster greets the eye. Frosty, untoned centers are framed with halos of russet toning. There is not a hint of friction on the devices; contact marks are virtually non-existent. The strike is first rate. In short, an ideal coin for an ambitious type or date collector.
A [George] Plimpton [family] Hoard coin. It was lot 700 in the 1981 NASCA sale of the Providence Collection, one of the 3 confirmed Plimpton Hoard auctions."
If Keith finds out I own it (he is aggressively building a set of Plimpton coins) I will never see it again. Shh...

So here is the scoop- For the past 3 years or so, its been very difficult to acquire an upgrade to my Capped Bust dime registry set for a number of reasons. Some reasons are working at my day job way too many hours and when I do come across an upgrade in grade, I prefer my coin over the higher graded coin. So its been rough going. Having said that, I recently acquired a 1829 JR-1 referred to it as an Extra Large 10 variety. Currently, this is the finest known JR-1 and 4 point upgrade for me. Previously this has been unknown to the Bust dime community as to this existence. I love the coin and wish to share with my fellow Bust coin enthusiast my recent acquisition. So enjoy:

CONGRATULATIONS! But couldn’t you find a fully struck example? 😉🤣
Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

do you remember Realone? not only did/does collect magnificent bust coinage, he has/had them imaged by MGoodman. he posted many a tasty treat! if you don't/haven't, for sure look up some of his threads in the archives.

Very happy with the way this looks in hand. One of my favorite die marriages.
Very nice example of a tough DM. I've already shown my less attractive example earlier in the thread, but here's her slightly older sister even if it does have a higher number in the book...the Overton plate coin for 123.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Thread from when I found this! It's been in my type set ever since.

I bought this O.104a from CRO a few years ago. Loved it. I asked PCGS to give it the coveted 58+ grade and they agreed. So did CAC.

Great to see this thread again!
Here’s a tough die marriage to find in AU and with eye appeal. It is also probably the only true overdate for the year, but the jury is still out.
This lovely piece was sold to me a few years ago and I couldn’t be happier to have her in my collection….thanks @GoBust
