Shipping Times... not the book...

lkeneficlkenefic Posts: 8,559 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hello Everyone... has anyone else experienced shipping delays for recent purchases? If so, have these delays been limited to certain geographical locales? For instance, I purchased something (not coin related) from CA a few months back and received the item within 4 days... I bought a phone battery from a vendor in TX around the same time, and it took close to 2 weeks to receive. In both instances, and in recent coin purchases on ebay, vendors will print the shipping label immediately and proudly announce the package as being "Shipped" when it's actually sitting at a local sorting facility, often for days on end.

Case in point: I bought a Seated Dime from a vendor in TX on May 4th. They had it "shipped" with a delivery date of May 8th the next day. I thought that was a bit optimistic, so I've been keeping an eye on the Tracking info... as of a few minutes ago (5/10/21), my package is still in a sorting facility in TX. So, this is oddly familiar to the phone battery situation. Has anyone else experienced shipping delays from TX? I have two other packages "in transit" from different vendors in different states , so I'm hoping the shipping problems are just regional.

For me, it's not the end of the world to experience these sorts of delays, but I'm also just a collector and I don't rely on these pieces for my business. Also, I realize that this is completely out of the coin dealer's hands. They're seemingly doing their due diligence in getting coins out the door as quickly as possible. The problems arise during shipping...

Once a tracking number is uploaded to eBay, it will be shown as “shipped” and the delivery date displayed will be generated by USPS with the assumption that the package is to be dropped off at the local post office that day. That does not mean that the package is actually shipped that day, especially if the label is printed late in the day or after the post office is closed.

That's true, but in the tracking info on the USPS site, there will be a notable time gap between when the label was printed and when it's marked as being received and scanned into a sorting facility... at which point it's marked "in transit"

...or the package is still in the seller's possession awaiting for him to drop it off at the shipping carrier.

This has been occurring more than occasionally, in a great many places for more than a year, now. There have been multiple reports in various threads.

For the last year I have had many, many instances of super slow delivery from the distribution centers in NJ to include Philadelphia and the Indianapolis distribution center. Sometimes sitting at either of these centers for 10 days to 14 days with no updates or info available. Most everywhere else in the US has been reasonable even from CA in 2 days. Had one instance that sat in Texas for 2 weeks but have gotten many other items from TX with no problems. But now I won't even bid on something from Indianapolis or New Jersey.

Except if that happened it wouldn't scan as being at a sorting facility.

Sure, but it wasn't noted in the post that the package appeared at the sorting facility on the day it was marked "shipped" on eBay (May 5th), only that it is there now.

My round bale stabilizers that were shipped may 1st is not here yet, and the tracking says "no secure location " and I have had plenty of coins more expensive left in the mailbox! 😮

I live in TX, I have shipped out coins recently and received them, both going and coming from different parts of the country. And no real delays, either direction (to here and to there). First class, priority, Fedex, no issues to report. Even a registered mail package arrived to me here in TX in 5 days from the east coast recently, record time.

I recently shipped a padded envelope via USPS first class w/delivery confirmation from Baltimore to Bremerton, WA. Put it in my residential mailbox with eBay printed shipping label on Monday morning. Buyer received it that Wednesday evening.....that was incredibly fast shipping. Then again I received a holiday greeting card in Feb even though it was postmarked in Dec. Also recently received two coin shipments from California that took around two weeks. The thing that bothers me is the USPS tracking that indicates the package is "out for delivery". I interpret that as meaning that my mail carrier has possession and will be delivering sometime that day. However, in the above cases my packages were "out for delivery" within a day of shipping and while they were still in California.

One of my shipments spent 11 days in New Jersey. It finally arrived in Minnesota yesterday.

2 day Priority is 4-5 days on average.

Interesting.... both packages that were delayed emanated from Arlington and then went to a sorting facility in Ft Worth.

@RobM... I've also sent packages out from Baltimore without issue. And received them from family in AZ too...

Recently, I have had really good shipping experiences.... even from TX - two packages last week. That being said, from about August of last year to February of this year, delays from all over were long and in some cases super long and frustrating. For the last six or seven weeks though, my receipts have been great from purchase to possession. Cheers, RickO

I have a couple of political items in-transit. They were shipped from Troy, Ohio on May 3. Today, May 12, they are supposed to be Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife and I were wondering if they are going Belgium and then to Florida.

It has greatly improved as whole nationwide, but still some areas of slowness I am aware of usps

traveling thru memphis, TN Distribution, also some regional facilties in PA. Upper midwest at times like michigan, Minn, chicago.

shipments to Texas and California (not arizona) for me on east coast of carolina, seems fast.

Is this normal? Today is 5/18, 16 days no status update.
The item is from Europe, the registered mail tracking number is not trackable at the USPS.com, I can only get status from eBay. Should I do something about it or ask the seller to track it?

The coins I ordered a little over a week ago are starting to trickle in. I'm in Baltimore:

from Hawthorne NJ; shipped May 12, delivered on May 17th
from Mary Esther FL; shipped May 10, delivered on May 17th
from Kaneohe HI; shipped May 8, delivered on May 14th

Sort of odd that the place that's furthest away ships almost as fast as a location that's just one state away...

I have a couple more packages on the way and most delivery times seem to be trending 7-10 days... give or take...
