If I were a smart US mint employee, responsible for making inventory available on the site, I would look at network traffic and release products when traffic gets back to it's normal level after the morning refreshers go back to bed.

Except they program the update time in ahead of time. They aren't sitting there waiting to hit a button.
If I'm a Mint employee, I simply wouldn't care what people like us are doing.
Imagine being able to buy an MS69 or MS70 1899CC for $85 plus shipping.
This is an invalid comparison in my opinion. The 1899 CC was not minted as a collectible but for circulation unlike this 2021 version. Therefore the 1899 in a MS69 or 70 is more rare and much more valuable!
I don't know. I was responding to the comment from another member who cited 1899 CC. Personally I don't collect Morgans so I haven't a clue about their dates but my point is the same for either date😎
I'm still happy with what happened Monday. I was in and out in under 5 minutes and no CAPTCHA!
Just hope Tuesday goes as well. I do believe traffic will be higher Tuesday since these are the real deal. No privy marks, the genuine article with $200 markups to retail virtually guaranteed.
If you can't or refuse to deal with the Mint's fiascos, the only way to lock up purchase of these coins now (if you don't want to wait) is through the flippers on eBay. I have written to a few dealers and they refuse to say when they will have the Morgans and Peace dollar on sale. My guess is that they will wait until just before the Mint ships the coins.

@WQuarterFreddie
I agree, the comparison is invalid as most if not all of these will be MS69 or MS70 protected in capsules and going (eventually) into the hands of collectors, most of the historic Morgans went into circulation or banged around in mint bags and many were melted. In the case of the 1889 some estimates have only 75,000 not being melted. All of the modern Morgans will survive in uncirculated condition.
Instead of this crazy fandango every time, how about if the Mint announces a minimum production number with no maximum and then guarantees to strike enough coins to fill every valid order received within a four-hour sales window WITH NO CANCELLATION PRIVILEGES!!!

I prefer to call them enterprising capitalists. God bless them, every one.
I imagine if these coins go through the roof, some folks will cancel sales and just say they didn’t get them. I wouldn’t buy one of these coins now on eBay. Stick that money in dogecoin and maybe get a coin for free, or lose it all.

Yes, unless these prices drop on eBay, I am waiting for the dealers to sell them. I trust the dealers more. But if their prices are more than the "enterprising capitalists" are charging on eBay, I will support the capitalists!

I like the idea of making enough for everyone that wants one (or more). And give people enough time to buy them so everyone is not crashing the system at the same time. If they sell 50,000 or 500,000, so be it. Of course, I am saying this as a collector and not as an investor. I just want the damn coin for my collection. Naturally, those of you that want the value to skyrocket will prefer a low maximum edition. I just wish the Morgan and Peace dollars had a maximum edition of double what they are.

Even collectors will stop buying them when the $85 coin is worth $35 the day it arrives in the mail.

Yep...look at some of the complaints about the proof sets and yearly commemoratives. Some (not all) of the same people complaining about low mintages complain about large mintages and decreasing after market prices. What everyone wants-be able to buy the coin easily and have it increase (or at least retain) value is virtually impossible.

The United States Mint is committed to providing the best possible online experience to its customers. The global silver shortage has driven demand for many of our bullion and numismatic products to record heights. This level of demand is felt most acutely by the Mint during the initial product release of numismatic items. Most recently in the pre-order window for 2021 Morgan Dollar with Carson City privy mark (21XC) and New Orleans privy mark (21XD), the extraordinary volume of web traffic caused significant numbers of Mint customers to experience website anomalies that resulted in their inability to complete transactions.
In the interest of properly rectifying the situation, the Mint is postponing the pre-order windows for the remaining 2021 Morgan and Peace silver dollars that were originally scheduled for June 1 (Morgan Dollars struck at Denver (21XG) and San Francisco (21XF)) and June 7 (Morgan Dollar struck at Philadelphia (21XE) and the Peace Dollar (21XH)). While inconvenient to many, this deliberate delay will give the Mint the time necessary to obtain web traffic management tools to enhance the user experience. As the demand for silver remains greater than the supply, the reality is such that not everyone will be able to purchase a coin. However, we are confident that during the postponement, we will be able to greatly improve on our ability to deliver the utmost positive U.S. Mint experience that our customers deserve. We will announce revised pre-order launch dates as soon as possible.
Thank you for a being a United States Mint customer
As of 6/1/2021, I've had successful BST transactions with: gowithmygut, AlanLastufka, Coinlearner, CXD, tommyrusty7, Coinflip, nurmaler, firstspousecoins
Well what do you think about that. Looks like we are going to time out because we dared to ask for solutions. Well they’ve got our solutions now don’t they? How about that!
So the next two launch dates are now postponed indefinitely. Interesting.

I was puzzled when I checked the schedule just now before seeing this series of posts. Thanks for posting the explanation. You have relived my anxiety attack which was imminent.
It is surprising that the Mint has reacted so quickly. Maybe a new era of responsiveness is beginning?

If you really wanted to mess with people, you would put up a couple hundred nonexistent coins for sale and then cancel the sales later.
Just got both coins woohoo

four hour sales window would still be crashing to system.
maybe 4 week sales window with 1 HHL for 2 weeks.

Wow...so now they're running presales on coins that they absolutely positively do not even have confirmed orders on...very nice!
As far as I know there is no s privy mark?
And, of course, it will be the fault of the mint's website that this cannot be accomplished.
Is it me or did the mint just change the release dates on the Morgan’s and peace dollar?
Yup. They changed them all to TBD
What will we do next week? Lol
I wonder if the delay is due to production issues or a system upgtade.

If there are more people wanting coins than there are coins available to sell, it won't matter how big the wheel is.

We're about to hear about the HHL again.
I'd like a HHL of 1 just so they can start complaining that they have 3 grandchildren.
Well what do you think about that. Looks like we are going to time out because we dared to ask for solutions. Well they’ve got our solutions now don’t they? How about that!

Good luck explaining this to ebay buyers. Perfect example of how not to flip.

Wow this sucks all you guys and girls broke the mint or scared the heck out of them. Lol crazy coin collector’s.

Why? That has nothing to do with the website upgrades.
