I’m in the same boat as most of you. I need that ATB quarter and the Kennedy half. I purchased one but it was painful.

But it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. And quoted from the mint...

Ok. How many do we really think they will sell this year? Another drop? How long before we hit the lower numbers of the 1950 proof set.

Yeah I picked one up also. If I was in this for the money I’d say maybe not the wisest of investments but I collect coins and so this is just how I roll.

    zero, nothing of interest here.

I have a nearly complete post 1964 silver set, so picked up a few regardless of the price.

I’ll probably stop by after the “semi quincentennial” coins.

Yes, continuing lower over the foreseeable future.

Even at the mintage of the 1950, I don't believe the secondary market price would be noticeably higher, proportionately. It's still far too common with close to a 100% survival rate. Longer term, a low multiple at best. Otherwise, it starts becoming uncompetitive with alternatives.

could not agree more - seems logical that you could increase excitement and demand by limiting and lowering the production

My understanding is that the US Mint uses cost accounting to price the set. If correct and the mintage is noticeably lower, the overhead per set will be noticeably higher and the price must also go up, potentially a lot.

Financially, the problem with this coinage (and most US Mint products) is that collectors don't really like it that much. The silver proof set is preferred over the clad, but not really much else. I'd describe it as predominantly a "sideline collection" which is substantially bought out of habit, similar to subscribing to newspapers in the past.

The mintage has crashed over the years yet it's still really common for a product with limited appeal. A far lower mintage may increase interest temporarily, but if it remains low it's going to be no different than "low" mintage US NCLT.

I think if I was after the 2021 silver quarter or half dollar, I would just wait and buy one already certified by PCGS.

My pet peeve is that this is a Proof Silver Set, so why bother putting in a Cent and a Nickel and Native American unless those were made out of silver too!?! I've always thought those should be excluded in these silver sets.

I disagree. I now only buy the silver set, and that is the set that keeps my Proof set run going from 1942. If the non silver coins were left out, the set would be incomplete.

I got tired of losing money almost every year on the non silver sets. Even though it’s over priced, at least I’m getting some precious metal.
