My adopted grandfather got me interested in coins. The 1913 was always his favorite. When I had the Hawaii 5-O coin, he drove over to Spokane from Seattle just to see it.
Such a cool backstory. Thanks for sharing.
FWIW, I flew all the way from my home to get to see it at the Portland Money Show. Of course that was back when it still had the Hawaii 5-0 attribution on the holder.
Little did I realize then that seeing the coin would be a precursor to getting the opportunity to appear as a Background Actor on the rebooted Hawaii Five-0 TV Series.
Seriously, since my mother told me never to talk about my money, I won't say if I have $6,000,000 or I don't have it. Either way, I wouldn't spend that much on coins. Just wouldn't. But.....I admire those who have the cash and do! I'd LOVE to own those nickels. Congratulations Mr. Trade Dollar.
I handled all five of them at the same time;
two were slabbed, and three were raw

Of course I don't own one but I did see 2 of them in the course of a week - one in the Smithsonian and then the next week there was one at an ANA show on display (~2007).

Really, what if you were a Billionaire, $6,000,000 wouldn't be that big of a deal. It might even turn out to be a good investment.
Bruce, over the years I've seen four of them. I may have seen this one at the 2009 ANA in Los Angeles. Yours is top notch; a few of them didn't float my boat. Congrats!

I'm here for membership in the "doesn't own a 1913 V Nickel club"...if I can't gain admittance I'll have to trade my 1912 for the 1913. It's older, so it's probably a fair trade.

Incredible to have such an esteemed collector among us on these boards. Very thankful to have @tradedollarnut here sharing with us the iconic coins he has acquired. So much more interesting than hearing that these national treasures are locked away in some historical society/museum.

This plaster would be great to add to a 1913 Liberty Nickel collection.
It was offered by Numismatic Americana a while back and I was thinking about picking it up.
It was done by Max Mehl. Anyone know how many he made?
1913 Liberty Head Nickel Plaster - Olsen Specimen - by Max Mehl

Painted silver, and attached to a cardboard card that reads: Plaster cast from genuine 1913 Nickel
An interesting little piece, exquisitely produced. Accompanied by a letter stating that it was originally obtained from the estate of B. Max Mehl. Mehl, arguably the most prolific coin dealer of the 20th century, spent millions of dollars advertising to purchase an example of the 1913 Liberty nickel. He never bought one. In fact, the only time he sold one was through auction, when he handled the “Olson” specimen, undoubtedly the piece from which this item was made from.
Congrats - nice to see you buying, instead of selling.

That must’ve been a nerve-racking experience :-) thanks for not getting any fingerprints on there
No words. Congratulations Bruce!

I have one but the date is rubbed off so nobody believes me.
I have several of them but none with a 13, none of the proof type, and most certainly none in a 66.

So, Bruce, what does Mr. Forsythe have left that you haven't bought?
