A little off topic but affects everyone - Covid 19 shots

Apparently there is a large percentage of the population that are "Anti-Vaxxers" and several others that just don't want to get the Covid 19 shot. I had an idea yesterday that I think the government should run with.
After you receive the second shot, or the single with some vaccinations, there is a very small chance that you would still catch Covid or spread it so...why not issue people that have been vaccinated a card / badge or something such as that so they can now go into public places like coin shows without wearing a mask?
I think you would have everyone lining up for a shot if this was the procedure.

We had a thread on vaccinations recently that was shut down. I expect the same to happen here.
You do get issued a CDC card.
You have to mention coin shows to make it a legitimate thread. {End sarcasm}
Okay I fixed it

I get my second one on the 23rd. Trying to convince my wife that the next coin show in Vegas, I have earned it

See you at FUN '22 with shots, masks, sanitizer, and a CPG.

Great another thread on shots, the other one went so well.

AlanSki - That's what I'm talking about!!! So why do you still have to wear a mask?

I must be in the wrong place. Is this a coin forum?

If you go to a coin show you have to wear a mask right?

Why I went for the vaccine?
Lollipops were given out.
A little off topic?

Because the vaccine is not 100% effective, for one. You can still be an asymptomatic carrier.
I think it is a relevant topic. Yes, this thread will not last long.
Got my second shot yesterday morning and I am miserable today but I know it’s necessary.
To answer your question, the masks will still be required for some time to come because you can still get the virus and pas it on to others even though you will not be sickened by it (or so that's the current belief). How possible it is for a vaccinated individual to pass it to others is currently being studied.
While off topic I would submit that it's a very pertinent topic for a bunch of old men (like us).
Come on man!👴
I might imagine that the rules on this will vary state to state and perhaps even county by county.
There is still some question as to how effective the current batch of vaccines are with new variants of the virus. These variants, though still in relatively low numbers here, are of some concern to some health officials as they appear more easily transmissible than the original culprit.
I might imagine that anyone hosting a coin show might err on the side of caution and require all to wear masks given the current unknowns.
Knowledge of this virus and protocols are frequently revised based on analysis of circumstances.
That’s how science works. It’s a process.

What I'm told to do vs what I choose to do are different. That's all I will say.
but you just went to the LCS looking at gold!
I will not go to any coin shows.
I've had my 2 shots. Still wear a mask outside of home. Still practice social distancing. Still carry my own hand sanitizer. As a frontline EMS worker, I've seen what Covid can do. I'm taking NO CHANCES. Why all the precautions ? Because I wanna go to a coin show sooner rather than later.
10 years into the future, a commercial on TV. "If you or a loved one suffered from _____________ after receiving the Covid19 vaccine, you may be entitled to compensation"
"I was social distancing before it was cool". My "people skills" have deteriorated even more in the last year. Hope I do not get 86'd out of my first post covid coin show.

I suppose you want to bring back polio and small pox, also.
I am still waiting for my turn; maybe June or July?
I’m with Tom147 with the precautions. I too have seen too much of the virus up close.
I made an ALL DAY trip yesterday to receive my second vaccine and with that, will continue with my precautions until conditions warrant a change.
I really believe shows could be done safely, but I don’t think many venues and enough of the people are willing to make the necessary effort to keep it relatively safe.

I think this topic is very relevant, I've not been to a coin club meeting in a year, nor have I had the fun of attending a coin show since they were cancelled along with a couple of auctions. I get my 2nd shot on the 3rd of March.

By the time April rolls around I should be fully immunized unless I'm one of the unlucky 5%. Once that occurs then I will have nothing to fear attending coin shows. Except dealers who don't like cherrypickers, and I know who most of those are.
Speaking of Covid. I was driving through South Dakota and hit the Cheyenne River Sioux reservation while on a state highway and was turned around by the tribal roadblock workers. It was a 2 hour inconvenience but they were polite about it and I didn't feel like disappearing on reservation land by questioning their authority.
I suppose you have no sense of humor.
Possible, but if one contracts covid, you may not be ere in 10 years.
except it's posts exactly like that which derailed the prior thread
Western Pennsylvania is a lost cause.
People around here would rather tie a live bobcat around their necks than wear a mask.
I've given up.

I am on waiting lists... almost impossible to get a shot around here.... Still work, go to gun shows, shopping - whatever is necessary. Masks when appropriate. Cheers, RickO
I got a card after the first shot and clothing sticker to go with it after the second shot. A pin would have been more durable, but that costs more.
Agree, wife and I have received both shots. She's a nurse and I service area hospitals. We too have seen firsthand the devastation of this virus. I still wear my mask, sanitize frequently and would absolutely continue to do so even if it were no longer mandatory. IMO it would be ignorant to go maskless into an enclosed area with large groups of people. I miss coin shows along with many other things but health and life are more important. Stay Safe!
so, what good is a card? saying anything
must be encoded into your DL or PP.. or something similar.?
and at NO cost.
Wife is an RN, we had a stock of N95 masks before c19 exploded. Form fit around the face, and breathe through the mask. So many people are wearing flimsy thin masks with big gaps, not surprising how this spread so fast.
This is my understanding based on current science (but that could change)
The main thing the vaccine does is prevent you from getting AS SICK if you do get the virus. It reduces the chances that you die. That all being said some of newer strains (newer mutations) show lowered impact from the vaccine. So it may not be as good from protecting you from some newer strains.
It DOES NOT prevent you from getting CV19 ... and it DOES NOT prevent you from spreading it if you do get it.
So it's really more to protect yourself and doesn't help others at all. I would call it more of a treatment, rather than a preventative. You can still get CV19 after you are vaccinated.

For mask-less vaccinated coin show entry a huge forehead V written in mustard should suffice
Hi Wingedliberty, your understanding is incorrect.
A vaccine makes you much less likely to catch it AT ALL.
In the event you do catch it, it’s much less likely to be serious.
Wife and I have had both shots.
Like Tom taking no chances. Wear mask when in public. Online works for me. A DR on CNN recently confirmed what Tom expressed.
Like HIV CV has the ability to mutate. It will be with us for sometime and those who are careless / oblivious will be increasing their risk of paying the price. Like the radiation from a nuclear blast I don’t believe it will subside anytime soon. Like the infrastructure of a bombed out city we will just have to adjust / deal with it.
I’m not sure why I’m responding to this but as a medical professional I will. Most people who don’t want to get the Covid shot are not anti-vaxers. They’ve gotten their polio, pertussis, MMR etc. vaccines. I’ve gotten both of my shots and I strongly recommend that anyone above the age of 65 or frontline worker who have access go and get vaccinated. Where it gets murky is with the young. Should a young healthy patient get vaccinated? The government and CDC are pushing in that direction. But if one is truly objective is it in the best interests of a young healthy 25 year old to get vaccinated with inadequate testing and with us having no idea what the side effect profile will be in 10 years. The CDC is also burying the incidence of side effects on their website. I challenge anyone to find this important information in a timely manner. It’s there but good luck finding it. With the government telling people even if they get vaccinated that life won’t be normal for another year that doesn’t exactly motivate the young to get their shots when they become available. There are obviously outliers but the survival rate for the young is 99.95% and if I was 25 I’m not sure I would take one for the team and get vaccinated right now. I might feel differently in six months when there is more information available.

Kennedys are my quest...
I’m a ‘Phase 1A’ worker and still haven’t been able to get a shot ... keep scheduling and then one day prior get message that the supply is gone, so reschedule again .... repeat ..... 😆
