There have been others. But are we too late for a Favorite Acquisition of 2020 thread?

The limits of a box of 20 collector means you have to be creative. Bullion doesn't count
Rare Sheffield Smelting Co. 50 ounce poured silver bar, circa 1970, with Mocatta & Goldsmid counterstamp:
Shown here with its bigger brother.
Sheffield is one of the oldest smelters in the UK, with lineage going back to the 1760s. They were acquired by Engelhard at one point in the 1970s and produced a few co-branded bars. Mocatta & Goldsmid have been metals brokers in London since the 1670s!

Thank you Lord for another beautiful day!!!
A coin that served its intended purpose. I really like the True view image

Have posted this in a few threads here already, but it was definitely my best acquisition of 2020 [also my best acquisition ever] and probably a coin I'll never sell — PCGS MS63 [reverse is PL]

Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Probably this ogh green and orange MS64 QE.

What I think is my nicest and most expensive coin of 2020.
Now I just need about 15 more early Gold pieces that look just like this to finish my Type set. Anyone got a Million or so laying around they can toss my way.
I feel like I had a great year, but this is still my favorite. In over 20 years of looking, this is the first clip I know of on this type.

Easily the Favorite for 2020.

My favorite acquisition of 2020 is my 1824/2 bust quarter:
This is the rarest readily obtainable date for the series (1823/2 and 1827/3/2 are far too expensive for normal people to acquire), and this coin has very good eye appeal for its grade, so I’m happy to have gotten it!
Hmmm I have not thought much about it, did not buy very much but maybe this one?? Or it could be the $3 gold coin, just don't have a photo of that one yet.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Unless I am missing something, sure looks better than MS62.

Wow, some truly amazing purchases! This is by far my favorite of the year. MS67, the luster on this 182 year old coin is incredible!
This has to be my favorite acquisition from this year!
Can't match these classic collector vibes and it was just plain cheap to boot, so much fun!
It's like it's right out of my childhood

Came pretty late in the year, but I'd say this would have to take the cake: a chopmarked 1859-S Seated Dollar. Minted at the request of West Coast merchants attempting to bypass the premium that they had to pay for Mexican 8 Reales to effectively trade in China, sources claim that 15,000 of the 20,000 minted were sent to the Far East for the purpose of trade. They were largely unsuccessful, and what other Seated Dollars that made their way across the Pacific were largely incidental; the Trade Dollar would see their purpose revived, but the 1859-S Dollar remains one of the earliest US coins struck for use in foreign trade.

There were a few to choose from this year but I love the color and overall appearance of this one.
Would have to be these two,

^^ TheMayor that's one stunning nickel.
Seeing as this was my only numismatic purchase of 2020, it's also my favorite.
Run my favorite to death so here’s the 2nd favorite,
Got lucky on this one, but love it for collection.
I did not have many purchases this year. A 1939 proof set purchased in March is the best of 2020.
Glad to see someone led off with a bar or 2.
Here's my favorite of 2020, courtesy of Regulated. I'm fascinated with the inset picture and hope to someday track down the relationship between the giver and recipient.
Is that an ingot? I can't quite make out what it is. Dimensions?

I only bought 4 coins in 2020, but this was absolutely my favorite:
I think it’s one of these three:
The 1904-O because I have been waiting a while for a monster toned Morgan to fit into my 20th century set and I was the underbidder on this coin last time around.

This 1879-O is by far the nicest toner for the date/MM.
This is, to my eyes, the best toned Silver Eagle.

Weiss:
I'd estimate 1"x2"x6" - not an overly large bar.
Looking forward to seeing more posts - have enjoyed seeing the posts so far.
The one below that Mrs_Spud just bought me for Christmas is my favorite for the year

This was my favorite that was graded from raw to 70. My wife got me the 95w in the 10th anniversary set but am too chicken to send it in until the mail system levels out

I started trying to figure this out only to realize that I bought a lot of coins this year and that picking a favorite will take some effort.

Recency bias is always a thing for me in these threads as I always end up posting coins I bought at the end of the year. But this year I didn't buy a ton in general so it was easy and just happens to be a more recent buy:
1901 $10 MS66 ex Simpson/Hall. The original skin and luster on this are hard to look away from
I also love this Grosso. 1226-1293 Modena in NGC MS62
Beautiful looking coin!
Hopefully this puts to rest the people concerned about the @DLHansen pedigree labels!
My only purchases this year:

From a collecting viewpoint, 2020 was really fantastic for me. I got rid of a bunch of lesser stuff and substituted coins that are heads & shoulders better. This one from CRO was a bit unexpected, but sooooo very cool. This sort of thing doesn't show up every day of the week.
Happy New Year everyone!
There have been ‘bigger’ pickups for sure—but this special widget in its last-of-the-OGH’s slab, with uber lustrous and silky bright tones was a fav. Destined for a gold bean unless JA’s loupe implodes. 🤓

@Rexford now there’s something you don’t see everyday. ⭐️
I chuckled reading those comments in the OCD thread. A little opportunistic marketing by Hansen and DLRC? Sure, but I was surprised people would immediately reholder or even actively avoid purchasing a coin with this label. I don't mind the label aesthetically but to each their own. When you consider Hansen is still building his collection, so the coins available in the pedigree holders are his backups (or the backups to his backups), I can see how some may not want to be reminded of that. Not me however - I could be quite happy with a collection of Hansen cast offs.
@BryceM I will never tire of seeing that one. Beautiful.
I've sold most every acquisition I made during 2020, which was admittedly lower than other years, but this unique piece was something I had to stretch for over a few months. It resides in my Box of Twenty Token Collection.

1863 J.L.Bode/Birdstuffer struck over 1861 Seated Luberty Quarter ex. T. Harrison Garrett PCGS MS64
Just a spectacular overstrike with great eye appeal and legendary provenance. Off the market for 40 years in Bill Anton's set from the Garret Sale at John Hopkins, and before that since the 1880s.

Gotta be this one for me. I've always wanted an early bust dollar for my collection.

I agree @Weiss , there are some really outstanding pieces in this thread, including your amazing bar!
I had to really think about this as there are more than a couple pieces from this year I could consider favorites. And some of them have really good stories to go along with them, including the new friends I have made along the way in seeking and acquiring them.
In the end though, I think it might be this one. Not only is it a significant piece for my collection, but it has a slightly different kind of story.
It showed up two days before an anticipated visit to a friend's house for a dinner invitation, a rare even in this unusual year. Rarer still maybe that we had not yet met in person. He is also a well known Bust Half aficionado and after some consideration, I decided to bring the newp along so he could see it in hand. After a wonderful dinner with he and his lovely wife, and over a good bottle of well-aged Merlot, he was kind enough to share parts of his collection, and his studio (he is a notable photographer as well), and overall knowledge with me. At the same time I was admiring some of his collection and soaking up the experience, I think he was genuinely enjoying looking at my contribution to the party ... and he took a couple photographs before we had to call it a night.
Anyway, a wonderful experience surrounding a favorite coin for 2020. Since the shots he took are much better than my own, and he was kind enough to give them to me, here she is;
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

Some great finds in 2020 despite not being able to attend any shows! (except FUN of course)
Here is one I never thought I'd get a chance at, then got very lucky late in the year. The highlight of my numismatic year.
My unusual piece to go along with an unusual year.

This is a 50C US pattern J-253 Muling of the Paquet's Liberty Seated Obverse halve with the Longacre's "French Head" obverse halve. Acquired it from a dealer long distance in the middle of the "Shelter in Place" orders
