Nice run of Classic Heads @RonB ! I really like your 1837. Great color. Here's another 1837 for the thread (also, I want to ttt this thread to encourage others to post more gold!):
I'm having trouble pulling the trigger on my next piece. It's kinda like buying a car in the sense that you want all the bells and whistles. But here each bell costs as much as a car.
Long story short I'm eyeing the $10 Indian around 64/64+ - Looks like a Mercedes but costs like a Mazda
My wife says the image doesn't appear to be a good enough rendering of Audrey Hepburn, I don't care, she's still beautiful. PR68DCAM. The coin is for the registry set, "100 Greatest Women on Coins" #69 in Ron Guth's book.
I don’t even remember buying this. I keep all of my gold in the safe, but this one was in my coin junk drawer. Must have bought it with the intention of cracking it out for my 7070 album. Nice surprise to find though!

How rude to post the same coin I just posted only multiple rungs higher up the grade & quality ladder
Really nice example of the wide fraction. I still may add one just to have both in the future. I was drawn to the close fractions as the 180% medallic alignment error is an attractive tie in to the early “still figuring it out” aspect of the early mint days.
AU58-61? That’s pretty rare that nice. Most are just so washed out

This isn't the most attractive coin I own, but it is the least common:
Rare date but amazing when considering it is a head of 40. I haven’t seen many of those ever let alone one with anything approaching original color and not super baggy. You understate that coin’s place out of the few dozen survivors. Most people are drawn to the earlier type but the head of 40 is the major rarity. Great coin

Thanks for your comments. The coin does have plenty of marks, although nothing major. And there is some remaining luster that you can see in-hand which isn't captured by my photo. I had to stretch to get it, since I assumed it would be many years before a similar opportunity came along.

The 39'40 comes hard-worn compared to other liberty eagles regardless of where minted. I have looked at your coin in-hand. It is an excellent DOG. Few 39'40s are.
Your image may be a bit over exposed (I am no photo pro). Permit me to be somewhat bold and offer you these images of your eagle which may provide more perspective everyone.
I like your eagle a lot. It seems as though it has found a good home. Congrats!

Thanks for those additional photos! Are you an earlier owner/caretaker?
At some point I may have this coin re-holdered to get a TrueView of it.
FYI, the coin is now part of my attempt at an 1839 mint set. Perhaps an impossible goal due to the GR-1 half dollar.

Not everything in this thread has been US, so with apologies here are a few from down South.
@scubafuel No apologies necessary, some gold means any gold. Besides it looks good and it’ll spend the same.
Found one more 🌞
