Anyone Else Have a Massively Delayed Package Due to the USPS Shenanigans?

RichRRichR Posts: 3,864 ✭✭✭✭✭

Have never had a USPS issue involving a coin until now...suddenly a coin that was moving along came to a grinding halt. Shipped 7/14...tracked to the distribution center and then nothing since 7/18...investigation now in progress.

Haven't had any kind of USPS delivery issue in at least 10 years...and now this. And the eBay seller is obviously also upset.

I have not been buying but I did sell one coin on ebay the shipment went like clockwork. I also just sent some coins to Mark Goodman for photos and had no issues with that package either. Sorry to hear that you had issues, there have been more problems being reported here of late.

True story, had a package delivered the other day from February 2019! Not sure what happened, perhaps stuck behind a box or was put into a recently discovered storage unit

Couldn’t find the seller online anymore, so I mailed the $10 to the return address... hopefully it arrives in the next 18 months

My neighbor's insulin, with dry ice packs depleted, was delivered yesterday...2 weeks late...no longer usable.

From NYC to western Iowa, it took 12 days for a birthday card to reach its destination. This was late July. Needless to say, Mom (now 92 years old) was still happy to receive it (and the $92 check that was enclosed). :D

Recent Priority Mail envelope with important documents mailed Monday from Bay Area, delivered in San Diego that Saturday. Coin purchase from Texas took a week to get to my neighboring city, then another week to get delivered from there. Recent payment check for GC consignments still hasn't shown up two weeks after they say they mailed it (from 300 miles away). I could provide details for a dozen others. My small local Post Office branch (where my PO Box is) is now closed from 11-12 for lunch. One Monday recently, they were closed altogether. Completely unacceptable.

Have had everything arrive and show up generally like clockwork. The clock might be running two days slow, but it's still running, and hopefully it stays that way.

I'm averaging 17 days to receive packages. Had a couple finally delivered after over a month. One sent July 8th just arrived at the destination sort facility. This is criminal what is happening. Absolutely disgusted by what is happening to the post office.

We are shutting down our online shops and I'm axing all my gold and silver on Ebay in the morning. Turned off payments on two sites and processing manual stuff only. We stand in solidarity with our fellow suffering Americans and also freeing up the postal service so our veterans and elderly can get their medicine.

This is our last grocery run soon for the next 90 days. We are cutting our spending to $0. Enough is enough.

“Anyone Else Have a Massively Delayed Package Due to the USPS Shenanigans?“

It’s quite possible that the delay doesn’t involve shenanigans on the part of the post office.

shenanigan | Definition of Shenanigan by Merriam-Websterwww.merriam-webster.com › dictionary › shenanigan
1 : a devious trick used especially for an underhand purpose. 2a : tricky or questionable practices or conduct —usually used in plural. b : high-spirited or mischievous activity —usually used in plural.

USPS delivery has been erratic since March. Most packages get through on the usual timeline. Some packages take inexplicable delays. I actually had one package take 3 months to arrive. So far, of the roughly 1000 packages that I've sent since March, NONE have been permanently lost.

If you file a "Locate Mail" form on usps.com, they almost always find it and get it moving within 72 hours.

True story. That's why they have the financial problem that they do.

While they operate semi-independently of the government, they are not allowed to set their own rates. When their retirement account was underfunded, they were ordered to make up the difference but given no money or rate increase to accomplish that. As a result, they've been running billion dollar deficits annually.

If they were actually a branch of the goverment, their books would automatically balance and their retirement would be as...er...(un)funded as the Federal government's plan. As a "private" company, they are not allowed to have an unfunded retirement plan.

Okay, this is weird. For some reason, the Obama administration let the USPS Board of Governors all expire without appointing replacements:

There are currently only seven members on the USPS Board including the Postmaster General. All have been appointed since 2018 - there are no appointees from the previous administration.

The replacement candidates from the Obama admin were blocked from Senate approval. Therefore, the seats were vacant.

Ditto for the Federal election commission...nominees did not get a hearing in the Senate.

I also heard this tonight on the news...re ballots since it was mentioned earlier...only the USPS can issue a legally binding postmark that is recognized/accepted by a court...both UPS and FedEx have said that they cannot accept ballots for this reason.

I had my knuckles rapped by eBay last month for too many "not received" items:

Compared to sellers that sell similar items under similar circumstances, your rates for item not received requests opened by buyers between Jul 01, 2019 - Jun 30, 2020 are high or very high.

I'm still not sure why they wrote to me, and not the post office. Does eBay think I deliver the packages personally, or what?

Right, if "Obummer" had just appointed some guys four years ago, everything would be running like clockwork now. There's absolutely no chance his successor would have gotten rid of them between now and then.

Outgoing - No problems, questions from customers. At present 1 shipment reported by usps arriving late still in transit. Another One thru eBay intl service center but they had messg up about delays due to covid emergency. Finally got there but took awhile.

Incoming - No problems. I get a text when they arrive.

Once I see item dropped off entered in usps System just relax let it get there. Don’t worry about stuff have no control over. Don’t do priority just usps 1st class pkg walk 30 feet to outgoing box just drop it in / keep it simple. Big ticket material (Which usually forces lower spreads) over $500 only do at shows / local retail clients. One bought some PCGS 63 & 64 DE plus some PCGS classic Commems recently around CPG (CDN App).

With covid expect delays. Don’t expect things be perfect lol. Today won a couple pieces of graded currency so looking forward to those.
