I got an email notice that a dealer that I have used before has some graded Palladium for sale. I clipped it not revealing the vendor. Not promoting them, just showing what a vendor is offering them for.
U.S. Mint sales report: Week ending September 27, 2020
This U.S. Mint numismatic sales report covers the week ending September 27, 2020. The Mint’s best-selling product this week was the 2020 one-ounce American Palladium Eagle $25 Uncirculated coin (20EK), which sold 9,971 units.
Not to mention the few hundred returns and cancelations that have been sold every morning since release for a second time.
I received the same email. Still not a price I would be willing to pay. I will be patient.
Yes, I would imagine the returns and cancellations have slowed (7 day return policy, reloaded for numerous days post release offerings) but who really knows how long this one could take to sell out.
The coin photo in hand that I posted a few pages ago from the Mint just came back a SP70. That was a huge relief. I was a bit concerned with the irregular inner edge, but it was as struck. Edited to say that was also very fast grading and I will post a True View when it shows up in a few days..
when the returns start to hit the mint... and there may be about a hundred or so by my ebay geared guess.... will they sell out? that'll be interesting when returns hit.
there's the unfamiliar to me names selling 70s pre-sale... those have gone from 3000 to as high as 3600 in auctions. why jump on any ungraded in this market? you've got the hopes of returns and not buying from a flipper and the prospects of scoring a 70 for a relatively small premium to the issue price.
from what I've seen, a lot of the recently unsold listings on ebay relisted as at least 7 days. they are much fewer that were either not relisted or were ended early by the seller. I imagine these will be returns.
@Goldminers said:
They just are not unique enough to keep or attract collectors at that price.
I agree. they will not be unique enough to keep collectors in for the long haul if the price of palladium remains at this level or higher. Then, imagine buying one every year at this price. Also, a new collector would have to lay out big to get in.
Demand is already falling. these have a huge chance of going the way of first spouses. fought for initially, then forgotten years later.
Well it's getting to be years later here...
(at least with the spouses you have new designs even if they are unloved. here you have great designs but they are static. the mint can only make up so many new finishes on them. paint anyone?)
CW: "Mint stops taking new orders for the 2020 American Eagle palladium coin"
Orders received by the United States Mint are sufficient to nearly exhaust the maximum mintage of Uncirculated 2020-W American Eagle palladium $25 coins.
The Mint’s Oct. 4 sales report indicates 9,997 of the 10,000 coins available were recorded sold. The product option is no longer available and the Mint is not accepting any new orders for the coin.
The product listing on the United States Mint’s website at www.usmint.gov identifies a “Remind Me” link with the proviso “Enter your email address or cell number to receive any back-in-stock messages we send related to this product.”
The U.S. Mint will notify interested customers who were unable to place an order, should coins become available from order cancellations while the bureau conducts order reconciliation for the product.
Those eBay selling prices don’t surprise me in the least.
They are going to have to go to significantly lower before I’ll consider the purchase of a 69.
At this point, I wouldn’t spend that money on a 70.
There was a time, you couldn’t give away the 2018 Palladium coins in 70 grade at much over $2,000. Then, the “weak sisters” go away and the coins get in stronger hands. And, of course, the metal spot price plays a key role too. Same with these 2020 coins. If you need to sell off your 70 grade coins at $3000-$3100, you truly had no business buying the coins in the first place. The weak sisters will be gone soon enough and the coins will find their stable selling prices. Two factors will play a key role- (1) spot price; (2) the sub-10,000 Mintage may greatly impact demand in the intermediate term. Things might start to get very interesting early next year with these coins.
Just my 2 cents.

Not being a mint issues set collector ( I feel like that would be a financial trap) I can be very patient given that I already have this finish from 2017.
I agree with Mitch that a lot depends on spot price with the palladium eagle.
Unless!! You purchased Early in 2017 or even 2018.
these may be on remind me but there will be a slow trickle of returns going back. I've been watching ebay and have seen some auctions ended early without relisting. Some of those are likely going back home. Maybe most of them.
the returns will be sold @ $3100 to the poor dears late to the party.
The spread on PCGS 69’s versus PCGS 70s on eBay is tight right now which might be due to the higher price point from the Mint.
I would settle for either at the right price. I haven’t seen that, yet. I do hope there becomes a plentiful flood of 70s.

6 in stock for the past half hour.
speculators stay away.
On Ebay, one seller auctioned (17) SP70FS last night for between $3050 and $3300....ouchamundo
I have those listed on the next to last post of the previous page.
Look at Pd making a run up on spot price.
If it hits $3000 all Pd boats will float.
It's got a way to go to hit $3k. But, it has made big gains before.
how many 69s will hit ebay in the coming weeks, or is there a way to specify min grade 70?
I hope bunches of 69’s come to eBay and drive prices down
there are a lot of 70's pre-sale as auctions, but the 69s I see are BINs
Not many 2020 Palladium's left directly from the Mint...

“On Ebay, one seller auctioned (17) SP70FS last night for between $3050 and $3300....ouchamundo“
Do we know this seller obviously OK with losing (big?) money with almost every sale after factoring in eBay fees, PayPal fees and PCGS grading fees?

@MsMorrisine, At those prices they may take a while to sell.
at these prices they make take a while to flip

Just too many minted for actual collector demand. They just are not unique enough to keep or attract collectors at that price.
My US Mint Commemorative Medal Set
It will most likely take the spot price creeping closer to $3000 to make this Pd issue interesting.
actually they have been unavailable at the mint for about a week. they minted just the right amount.... too bad for flippers.
even at issue price.. no takers on these two

No. IF prices stay where they are currently, there will be a $50 drop in Mint Palladium prices on Wednesday...

“pop report shows 70s are a lot, lot more plentiful than 69s“
This is very true, but let’s not forget Min 70 grade always plays a role. Not to mention prescreening the coins PCGS sees in the first place.
