1931 Paris Exposition Amerique gold gilt
Great toning on this one.
This medal was struck on the occasion of the International Colonial Exhibition held in Paris from May 6 to November 15, 1931, at the Porte Dorée and on the site of the Bois de Vincennes.
On the reverse, there is the flag of the United States of America with the reproduction of George Washington's house at Mount Vernon.
A real beauty, and a smidge easier than a 1794 dollar, but on the other hand kind of not, as it's the only game in town for most to hope to have this design type. Congrats on a really special piece for your collection!

Very happy to add this new upgrade to the type set!
Very nice, Downtown1974! After so many years on here, I still associate your handle with the nice baseball cards you used to focus on. Is it strictly coins for you nowadays, or did you hang on to some cards?
@originalisbest I have a couple of Mickey Mantle items left but that’s about it. Primarily focus on coins now. I did well when I sold them but I would have really cleaned up if I held on a while longer. About a year ago, I looked up some of the cards I had and what they’re selling for. Some of them blew my mind!
@Downtown1974 that is for sure! I kind of regret not getting a basic red back T206 Cobb (let alone a green) back when they were more affordable, but ah well, happy to have what I have. I still split time/interest pretty evenly amongst cards and coins. Glad you have some Mick items still and you are for sure doing very well with your coin selections!
Seems odd not to have QE on there after so many years of her reign. That is a very well-done new likeness of Charles!
Indeed, it’s a very realistic portrait, a very well done coin! And, they did a Queen Elizabeth sovereign, right after she passed away with Charles on the obverse without the crown, it was a memorial sovereign that’s dated 2022

Should have some new gold to show Friday. Was lucky enough to win my first time at GC.
Congrats, can't wait to see it
Since this is your 1st win at GC you'll soon find out that it will be a great experience!
Excellent experience @alaura22@ianrussell
I called and spoke to service representative Jessica about increasing my limit the Friday prior to auction close since bidding was expected to be strong. The auction ended in my favor with money left on the table. Everything went as planned from there.
Here’s the newest acquisition for “The Massingill 12”:
Thank you very much, I appreciate your enthusiasm for my new purchase! Really kind of you! And absolutely the perfect thread to criticize someone's new (and not particularly inexpensive) purchase.
The wear is honest. There was probably a cleaning at some point 25-200 years ago. As for the porosity, planchet quality was not the best, the coin circulated for a long time, and it's 225 years old. And it's a 10, not an XF or AU coin. What is your problem with it?
And also, looking at your discussion history, it looks like you purchased new glasses in 2019. Perhaps it's time for another pair?
Agree. It looks like it's been lightly cleaned. That said, I sure wouldn't mind owning it.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

I actually got new glasses this past June (2023) and my ophthalmologist said my vision is 20/20.
Your coin is "probably" not cleaned, it is defiantly cleaned but I would still like to own it.
Congratulations on your purchase!

I never criticized your shortcomings whatever they may be (like you did with my vision) so you made me do some digging.
My original comment about "how did this straight grade" was just that, the coin seemed to be scrubbed beyond cleaned, I never mentioned your choice just the grade assigned.
I might get banned for this but I have to vent.
You paid more than PCGS price guide for the coin (lucky you that it straight graded) that means you paid way more than Greysheet ($3800 or so?)

How much do you want for your coin now lermish?
It's not for sale and I've been hunting for one of these for quite a while... Do you think I can't read a price sheet? Good luck finding anything halfway this decent for under 5k. Go find it for me and I'll give you a finder's fee.
And my issue wasn't with your comment, clearly I know that it's been cleaned at some point, I mentioned it. My issue is that this thread is for people to show off their new purchases, not for random people to come in and criticize those purchases, especially random people who haven't seen the coin in hand.
If it were a Morgan, it probably wouldn't straight grade. The TPGs are a little more lenient with early period material. It is a solid VG in the market and worth what he paid. I'm not sure there is any point in attacking the coin or each other.
I hesitate to step in between this kerfuffle involving @lermish and @Raybo but I may be able to shed some light onto the HA listing for the coin.
It appears the coin sold on July 21, 2023 for $6000 (which includes the BP) and that @lermish purchased the piece. If I recall correctly, and I might not recall correctly, at one time it was the policy of HA to list all auction lot wins as "Make Offer to Owner" unless the buyer specifically chose to decline that option in their profile. I do not see that option to decline the MOtO any longer in my own profile at HA, so perhaps all items default to that category or I might just be mistaken about the previous ability to opt-out of the MOtO program.
Regardless, the HA MOtO button has a little information icon next to it (the ? next to it) and if you click on the ? you receive the following text-
This amount was not set by the owner and does not indicate that they will accept the offer. The minimum offer amount, unless overridden by the owner, is set to the purchase price plus 50% (minimum $300). If a previous offer on this item has been rejected, the new minimum offer amount automatically increases to 5% higher than the previous offer (or 10% for items less than $1,000).
Therefore, HA is automatically offering the coin for sale as a MOtO option at a 50% markup of the last sales price and the new owner has the option of declining all offers from potential buyers or working through HA to facilitate a sale. This is done on the part of HA to generate more income as the middle man after the sale of the coin. I have no idea if @lermish would sell this coin or not, but I do know that I have seen some MOtO listings in the past and reached out to the owners and they were not receptive at all to the large percentage increases that HA was offering their coins for on the HA site.
@TomB is correct about why it shows with the "make an offer".
I feel like this forum is just a drama fest lately and I also hesitate to get involved, but I can't help but chime in here. @Raybo- Your comment about @lermish's new coin was unwelcome, and quite rude in my opinion. On a "Show us your newps" thread, no less. If it was a discussion thread, that's one thing, but to say "how did that get a straight grade" when someone posts a fairly expensive newp is probably some of the worst forum etiquette I've seen lately.

Recent auction win. Unbelievable colors on this $10. My picture of the coin in the rattler case does not do it justice. NFS!

This is true, although you can turn it off so it doesn't automatically put your coin up for sale.
