I went to the Manchester, NH show today and came home with this, purchased from Dave Barbone:
NGC's pictures:
Kind of a banner year for me so far -- this is the fourth coin I've added to my collection this year whereas I've averaged about two a year over the last decade.
I picked up another one for my circulated type sets, a “No Drapery” 1839 Seated Liberty half dollar. This was a very hard to find coin and now I only need one more coin, a draped bust half dime, for my Everyman 19th Century Circulated type set, no gold to be 100% complete.
A nice write up from @numismagram
GERMANY. Nürnberg. Copper Jeton or Rechenpfennig. Issued circa 1670 (27mm, 5.47 g, 12h). By W. Lauffer III.
ICH HAB DIE ANGENEME KUNST DIE MACHT GERECHTIK V GVNST / WOLFF LAVFFER RECHPFENGMACHER, man standing slightly left in 17th century Spanish attire, with feet on a balance, and holding chalice, pocket watch, and money bag / GELT MACHT SCHELCK (money makes things bad), arm emerging left from the clouds, holding scales balancing pious figure of man with a crucifix against a skull and money bag; to left, craftsman standing right, holding compass, carpenter's square, and plumbline; to right, merchant standing left, holding book; between them, vomiting dog standing right.
Cf. Mitchener 1747 note; cf. Neumann 32354. Choice Extremely Fine. Pleasing brown surfaces. Great allegorical type.
Rechenpfennigen, German for "accounting pennies," are similar to other tokens or jetons that could serve reckoning, gaming, or even semi-numismatic functions. In particular, the rechenpfennigen were made famous by their various manufacturers in Nürnberg (Nuremberg) from the mid-late 16th century to the early 18th century, with a host of themes used as subject matter. These topics included history, mythology, contemporary political affairs, and even satire. Though many were intended as aids in accounting and bookkeeping (with an accounting board and these tokens taking the place of an abacus or sliderule), they were also useful in other functions, such as in the world of gaming—as poker chips—or in commerce and monetary transactions—as a substitute for harder currency.
I picked this one up to add to my Buffalo Nickel error collection along with my double struck and off center. 6% clip.
Members I have done business with: Silverman68, jfoot13, GAB, ricman, Smittys, scrapman1077, RyGuy, Connecticoin, Meltdown, VikingDude, Peaceman, Patches and more.
I have had this one a little while, but I bought it because of the late die state, with huge die crack under the date. Yet, it has fully formed stars on the obverse. The reverse is weakly struck, and there are two planchet flaws, one just below Liberty's neck, and the other on reverse by the "I" in AMERICA. I have rarely seen such a beat up V nickel retain so much beauty.
Buying some snacks yesterday and saw the clerk filling the till with hand rolled wrappers.
So I bought 2...!.00 total.
Found this strong 82 copper and more .
I don't collect these, but it caught my eye. It was so clean looking and the toning was mild and smooth. Impulse purchase at $25. Could become part of a future set collection at some point.
1797 BB-72 / B-2 in PCGS XF and with a stronger detailed reverse than typical for the variety. Took time to find one.
Bowers: "Of all 1797 varieties, the BB-72 is at once the rarest, best known, and most sought after. This issue occupies its own niche in numismatic literature, where it has been showcased as a rarity in some instances and ignored in others. Doubtless, it is the best known die variety of the 1796-1797 years combined. Indeed, it may well be the most famous variety after 1794 and before 1804."
USAF (Ret) 1974 - 1994 - The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries. Remembering RickO, a brother in arms.
I had put off buying a 1795 BB-27 for a long time. It is BY FAR the most common flowing hair dollar. Saw this one in a Heritage sale back in 2019 and found it interesting but did not bid it. Popped up on eBay this morning. I sent a fair offer, considering the movement in the market in these over the past few years and the 10% FVF the seller would be bearing. So now I filled that space in the complete early dollar set. Nice Wayte Raymond board target toning. Must have been in someone's type set for decades.

I normally collect halves, but I couldn't resist this capped bust quarter.
Very nice looking circ-cam early quarter!
I put in a last 10 second bid for $55 for the heck of it. And won. I'm looking at better grade ones, but this will keep me content for a bit.

I've slowly been assembling a mid-range set of MS Peace dollars, now missing just the 1934-S.
I picked this one up to add to my Buffalo Nickel error collection along with my double struck and off center. 6% clip.

The Seychelles' coins gave me a flashback of when I was there in the early '70s.
They are a beautiful set of coins.

Don't try to buy many Morgans, but this top pop VAM-3 is worth putting in my inventory.
I seem to be currently stuck in the 1920's to 1950's dates range. This was a cool pickup. Looking for the right "S" 32 quarter next.
