For sure. I cancelled my Long Beach coin show because of this.
I'm going to live until I die. I'm not going to live in fear.
one show per year, summer ANA. Won't be making plans for it well in advance like usual, but will attend if the ANA doesn't cancel it.
I had no plans to attend any shows this year so it has not affected my plans, spending a thousand bucks to travel to a couple of shows is just a thousand bucks less I have to spend on a coin or two.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
6 weeks from now I have paid for a booth at an outdoor art show where 100,000 normally attend.
I will be watching the news closely.
Right now, I am planning on doing the show.

No changes at all - have already gone to FUN and Atlanta ANA and still alive and kicking. No intentions of hiding under the bed (besides, there's a Bogeyman under there .....).

Went to the Atlanta ANA and touched EVERYTHING, ha!
A Doctor at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover NH ( the hospital closest to me) went to Italy, contracted Covid-19, then went to a seminar in White River Junction VT and spread it around. Several people have already tested positive in Grafton County NH (the county in which I live). So I guess it is time for me to panic, run down the road screaming, and continue living as I have all along.
For a bunch of old farts, most of you are pretty cavalier about this.

No plans on changing anything. As a matter of fact, I will be attending a show this Sunday in Auburn, MA.

It is a concern.
Anyone with "underlying medical conditions" should start thinking twice about attending such events.

Traveling, especially air travel always is pretty risky for catching viral infections. This one seems to kill folks typically in the collecting dealing demographics over others. If it follows the trajectory of the 1918 flu epidemic, a mutation could make it more contagious and more lethal. A few Ifs there, but the latency between the time to buy a table, get reservations for airlines and hotels and the actual show dates makes it unattractive. It also is less attractive form the dealer side of the table because certainly some fraction of the retail base will be no shows. Might consider buying eBay and Costco stocks though. Bet they have blow-out quarters between the escalation of online sales and the frenzied panic buying at the warehouses.
I went to Atlanta this past weekend. Not afraid.

good luck to all!
We're actually leaving on a southern Caribbean cruise in a little over a week. Let everyone else worry, I want to enjoy myself!
Cheers

While I have no current plans to travel to a coin show, I would not change them due to this panic. The flu is far more dangerous and has killed thousands more already this year. Take the proper precautions recommended and all will be well... and 99% who do contract the virus, will recover.... The elderly, with other physical ailments, are most vulnerable. Cheers, RickO
I'm on a 10-Day European buying trip now, so I'm not exactly hiding under a rock. That said, I am planning to cut a few trips from my schedule. Not just because of the health risks, but because some shows just aren't worth attending anymore. Baltimore next week and Central States in April are still must-attend events, so I'll at least be there.

Same here. Summer ANA will be my next show and I won't be booking very far in advance just in case. Nonetheless, I will be attending no matter what but hope that things are better by then.

That's a big relief. I don't turn 60 until August so I should be fine.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
There is a MUCH greater risk of somebody dying of old age at a coin show then contracting Covid-19

I'll be there in a couple of days! What's the most expensive restaurant in town?

Go figure, the arguments and ego battling on the other thread got it closed.
I would like to see this thread remain open so please maintain civility.
It might have just been getting too far removed from coins. In any case, I can't imagine anything more civil than getting invited to a free dinner.
Was this just SPAM to get your tag line put there?!?!?!?!?
What virus is this about now....?
No it was not, I figured that this would go the way of the other thread. I believe there are some that can't remain civil, and eventually any thread introducing a public controversy such as this will turn sour, as is happening now.

With all the (non coin show) trade shows, conventions, events being cancelled nationwide (regardless of anyone's opinions on the virus, it's happening a lot), it'll be interesting to see how coin shows do over the next 1-4 months.
So far, based on this unscientific poll, it's looking like coin shows will have roughly a 30% drop in attendance from dealers/collectors in the coming months. Of course that all depends on various factors (if it gets worse, public opinion, etc.)
lol, no. i had H1N1 in 2009, it sucked but i got over it. If i catch Covid-19 it'll suck but i'll get over it.
Yes - it’s a really terrible situation.
Serious concern about its spread.
With it’s detrimental effect on Wall Street some friends who are trying sell out (coins) wondering how it will impact coin market.
Says one “I can’t sell the coins fast enough to liquidate them (stagnant market) and now this and the danger it imposes to everyone.”
But if your a buyer I am sure lots of deals to be made shows or online.
No. I am not an alarmist. Take and utilize the reasonable precautions and keep living life.
The only way I'd answer differently for this one is if there was a legitimate chance of getting stuck in a quarantine. That would be a buzzkill.
I wonder how many coin collectors/dealers would qualify?
Personally I believe we all have been infected. The vast majority of people have experienced NONE-mild conditions.
I remember in long beach seeing many dealers with running noses or other mild symptoms and would just say oh its just a cold etc... Same experience in atlanta. it was ALOT of people. Each person said no way on corona that I asked
I was mentioning this at my post office yesterday and 2 people there overhearing said they also recently (in the last week or 2) got a small cold or bug. Same with the post master. Her husband told her to go get checked and she just said nah...
Yesterday in NY they checked family and neighbors of a man that was experiencing major symptoms and was in the hospital. Family had no symptoms but all were positive. So were much of the neighbors tested- almost all positive and no major symptoms.
90k in china have been tested positive in china, but that doesnt mean they are all showing bad symptoms. Unfortunately people are dying from this and that is terrible. But influenza (common flu) kills 56,000 people a year as well. (source CDC)
Guess I'll have to worry then! Not.
I plan to go to a show tomorrow. Not worried about a lot of hype.
I don't have time for any until I retire October next year.
I am undecided only because I want to see more data.
So far, the data suggests that this will be far less of a crisis than the media is hyping.

Undecided. Maybe if a small local show. If a larger show, especially in an area where there was a reported case; absolutely not...
This question goes beyond if someone is "scared" of going to a show...that is, for fear of getting the virus...
It's more about thinking of others. Is that possible?
If you think exposing yourself is no big deal to you; just remember: You can catch this contagion, be asymptomatic for up to two weeks, spread it to your family, friends, and co-workers...no problem right?
There's a case reported 40 miles or so from the Tn. Show I'm attending.
Voted no even though I'm missing the next big show in my hood to attend a college graduation.
Also flying to a Marine graduation ceremony in a few weeks and still planning on hitching a flight to ANA in beautiful Pittsburgh.
OT but I think about it whenever I reflect on 'scary times'.
I traveled with a big band on New Year's Eve 1999. The airport was a ghost town and our plane was totally empty except for the crew and the band. Y2K fear was certainly emotionally contagious.

Would not be surprised if CSNS has s cancelled
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
There is a good chance I will skip Baltimore. There are many factors involved:
Decent amount of cases where I live, dont need to be at the airport.
I think Baltimore traffic will be down in some fashion. An expensive cross country trip needs to be a profitable show.
My kids school may be canceled by then.
Need to make sure the family is fine, I dont need to expose myself or them if not very necessary.
Plenty of others things.
Living in the Seattle area about 10 miles from most of the US fatalities so far puts things in a slightly different perspective. I'm hopeful everything might be back to normal before CSNS and ANA, but most large meetings around here are being canceled for the next month or so. One of the two major shows in the area, the PNNA Tukwila show, is next month, so we'll see what happens there. Not going out of my way to drop in on small local shows this month, however.
Going to a local show this weekend, didn't think too much of this until seeing Todd's post the other day. While out doing some shopping today I figured I'd pick up some hand sanitizer to have at the table during the show... just to feel a little better and to be able to offer it to potential customers. It's something I usually have with me at shows anyways but I ran out at Long Beach.
Went to four different stores, all sold out. No disinfectant wipes either. Stores also out of bleach, toilet paper, paper towels, and a bunch of other stuff... crazy what a couple of days does to people.
Was planning an out of town trip next month... but not looking forward to going to the airport and getting on a plane while this craziness is going on... may postpone it. We'll see...

Going to two this month. There’s a smaller ANA show in Franklin, TN (fancy suburb of Nashville) next weekend and going to Baltimore at the end of the month. Gonna drive, though. No planes or airports.
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
I am hopeful things will be back to normal by central states. Next show I plan to attend. It's been several months since I last found a coin to add to my collection so really looking forward to the show. As far as coin collectors go I am young and healthy so I am not too concerned.
If I was older or had health issues I would stay at home. I think soon the message will be the virus is here and we have to go on with our daily life. If you are in an at risk group you should stay away from other people.
I figure with my career I will get this but am hopefull that from what we have seen so far I will have mild symptoms.
