This thread is another valuable source for numismatic information, nice contributions everyone!

Let us not forget the Stickied thread atop the US Coin forum on numismatic resources and references https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1006619/resources-books-to-read-on-numismatic-series-and-varieties/p1

I have added this thread to the resource thread since it seems to permanently stay on the front page.

Been reading up on the California Gold Rush and the private coinage of that era. Fortunately there are some excellent books on the topic. Just wish I could afford more of the coins!

It is! Glenn had an indentation left in the cover to accommodate a half dollar. Edgar Souders had done this earlier with his authors editions of Bust Half Fever.

I helped both authors get their books bound at The Ohio Bookstore in Cincinnati, OH. They do wonderful leather bindings. I have also had them do my editions of The John Reich Journal and other works in leather. I have also had them do clamshell boxes for fragile works I wanted to preserve and still display.

  • CladiatorCladiator Posts: 18,042 ✭✭✭✭✭

Added a new one today. Well, new to me anyway. This 1931 makes my '84 and '75 feel like babies. It's got the same historical feel to it as an old coin does. Nice old book smell too.

    Thanks Rich, much appreciated.

I recently got a scarce half dime so I kinda want a copy, myself...

Does it have a decent write up for the 1865 business strike?

Decent? LOL It's got die characteristics and plate coins but not much more. No real discussion about it.

I know these are not physical books, but if you go to the LSCC site, you can down load all the Bugert books to your computer. Just click on the online resource button and scroll down. They load as pdf's. James

I was aware of those, thanks. My goal is to acquire the physical books anyways. Best scenario is to find all four at once.

I’d never seen a hardcover Ponterio before. Speaking to Kent, very few were made and only for a few sales. This of the important Viceroy Amat collection.

This was Jose Toribio Medina’s personal copy, which Almanzar used and additionally annotated. Freeman Craig recalls this book while working with Almanzar early in his career and eventually selling it to Luis Ponte. A special piece. Thanks to Andy for passing it to me.
