Came across these this weekend and have kept them both sealed since I was at college. Shaquille ROOKIE on the back of each. Both came from boxes I purchased for ripping at the time. Kinda neat.
Caught this beauty on my fishing line yesterday...
I now own ten (10) 1957s: 2 (9s), 6 (8.5s), and 2 (8s). (Ted Williams 8.5, Mays 8.5, Drysdale 8.5, F. Robinson 8,
Whitey Ford 8.5, Banks 9, Clemente 9, Koufax 8.5, B. Robinson 8.5, and Yankees Power Hitters 8.)
I'm very excited to have picked up this 1926 Pottsville Maroons real photo postcard of Barney Wentz. An extremely rare item, only a few are confirmed to exist.
Barney played in the 1923 Rose Bowl for Penn State and was first team All-NFL in 1925 (Collyers Eye) and led the NFL in touchdowns in 1926.
The 1926 Pottsville Maroons real photo postcard set is the first set known to contain only NFL football players. The Walker Packer's Cleaner set was issued 6 years later in 1932.
The below are from the box of 2000 FLEER TRADITION that were broke about 6 months ago
The series is a pain as Fleer is just as bad as Topps production wise
The Mac Ten -4 is a Pop 2 with just 1 higher. These are a pain to get in good shape have to be lucky coming out of the packs
The Chipper Ten-4 is a Pop 3 with 2 higher
The Ripken collection is a Pop 4 none higher ( its off T-B otherwise cant see much wrong)
The Chipper Award Winner is a Pop 1
The Carew Club 3000 is a Pop 7
The Yount Club 3000 is a Pop 1

4 Sharpcorners just sold another PSA-8.5 1965 Mantle on Monday at which I was looking...and almost pulled the trigger w/15% off...but centering was off side-to-side.
This PSA-8.5 1965 Mantle is nearly perfectly centered. Interestingly...4 Sharpcorners had two 8.5s 1965 Mantles w/sequential serial numbers. They just didn't want to post both simultaneously. When I looked last night on their sight...I initially thought that the buyer returned the card. Then...I noticed the centering side-to-side was better and upon closer inspection the serial numbers differed by one number...44229437 vs 44229436 (mine).
Monte - nice pickups on the Brooks and the 65 Mantle - such a tough card to find centered like that. Assume you are out selling Girl Scout cookies at the local Kroger to raise funds for these two monsters 😉
Same set as Monte, bit lower price range. For children of the 1960s who watched and rooted for the Yankees, they'll tell you this is probably the most underrated pinstriped hurler of all time. Similar to Don Mattingly, the entirety of his career was played when the Yankees weren't hanging banners and they both also had injuries that shortened what certainly looked like Hall of Fame career arcs for a good while. However you slice it, in 11 seasons, the five time All Star complied a 164-139 record, pitched to a 2.97 ERA, and threw an eye popping 152 complete games, with 40 of them shutouts. He would ultimately get his Yankees rings in the 1990's as a key member of Joe Torre's staff, serving as pitching coach. We lost him just last year. Perhaps the baseball body of work could lead to a number retirement one day (30). Here's one of the great unheralded Yankees, from an unheralded Topps set, in his rookie season...
Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?
1965 is one of my favorite sets...and I remember opening packs back then. I am still looking for a '65 pack in psa-7 or better to help complete a 1960s wax pack 5-cent run.
I agree Mel was a great pitcher and he scouted my second cousin who signed with the Yankees and pitched in the single A minors until he hurt his arm just as he was being promoted to double A,

Wonderful connection to Stottlemyre. It was a pitcher friendly era, to be sure, but he sure took advantage as well as almost anyone.
Oddly enough, my very first Mickey Mantle card that I ever owned is a ‘65 Topps. It was probably a 6 or 7 and I loved it down to a 4 before encapsulating it. Still got it.
With absolutely no regrets.

My first baseball cards/packs were from 1964...but I didn't have a 1964 #50 Mantle. So...the next year (1965) I was fortunate also to open a pack with a Mickey Mantle #350...my first Mantle as well.
BTW...my second cousin said Mel was a great teacher of the art of pitching and a great guy as well!
"DOOMSDAY" Harvey Martin has his hands full with 2 Walter Paytons!!
Two beautiful 2019 pick ups back from re-holdering. The PSA 7 has the double rookie Payton/Martin!! Special thanks to @JakeR2234 for giving me first dibs on his PSA 8!!

Great packs Chris- those are sure to be well loved in your collection.
I've been chasing after a centered copy of this 85-86 Merchante Campeanato for a few years now and between rising prices & becoming a target for trimming due to the usually horrible centering,I haven't found a copy in my price range that I'd be happy with. Until now!
It's the Red back version and unfortunately is does have some paper loss on back but the front is absolutely gorgeous.

Eric, congratulations! That is a beauty and so tough to find! I'll take some back paper loss to get a copy with that kind of centering and clean front any time! Great addition to your collection.

I saw the off centered one on their site for a little while now. Centering was atrocious.I would have been pretty upset if I was the one whp bought the first one and then saw that the next day they post a beautifully centered second one. Bothered enough that I most likely would returned it since they were 'hiding' the second copy. I can understand not wanting to "flood" their site with the same cards but that rule doesn't apply for Mantle cards. Great freakin pick up.

As a State fan love the Skywalker pickups! Tommy Burleson makes him look small on the All-Americans card, with Thompson's 48" vertical I wonder if he could still out jump Tommy.
For the first time ever, I dip my toe into the modern auto marketplace. It won’t be a habit but this kid has such otherworldly talent that they already call him The Martian. Between comparisons to Bo Jackson, Mike Trout and even Mickey Mantle, I simply cannot remember a Yankee prospect this hyped with this ceiling in quite some time; Baseball America has him as the #1 prospect in the Yankee farm system. The player and the card are all potential.
I won this card as the only bidder (high opening bid amount). I'm not sure when this card in this condition would pop up again so I pulled the trigger. PSA pop report shows only 5 of these cards graded, with the highest being a PSA 3. Should be arriving in the mail next week.
