$1,732 palladium ask price spot, keeps heading up. South Africa mines again significantly lower production last several months vs last year, yet demand up due to stricter EU and other country emissions requirements. The buyers of the way below mint price 69's have done well.
Good info to know, GM.
Yes, this spot price is $50 below my purchase price for a beautiful NGC 69.
If you turn and rotate the RP for the cool details of the feathers you also get an added bonus of the deep high relief.
Palladium continued its strong rally, up 1.1% to $1,734.36 an ounce, after hitting a record $1,739.93. The metal used in vehicle exhausts to reduce harmful emissions has rallied more than $300 since early August, when it touched the lowest in nearly two months.
"Palladium is in short supply, it will continue to be so and higher prices maybe till $2,000 is well within the realm of possibilities, particularly if we see automotive activity rebound a bit," said Bart Melek, head of commodity strategies at TD Securities in Toronto.
"We have a structural deficit problem within the palladium market, the inventories and exchange traded funds (ETF) which have been used over the years to feed the gap between primary supply and demand are down."

nice buy with all 3 as a set in money at just spot

This price increase will surely slow additional sales to a trickle. I would be willing to bet that a mintage of 15,500 will be the max.
CAGCRISP, what say you?
Just depends on when the Mint pulls the offering and what happens with Spot. Some will chase Spot Up and Some will purchase IF you get a drastic drop in prices...

How high can these go? And where will they land for next year? Yikes!!!
They'll land wherever Palladium lands. Hard to predict. It is a relatively scarce material that largely comes from an unstable country. Could go up, could go down, could stay the same.
I'll be keeping one. Got to keep the subset of precious metal Reverse Proofs complete.
The upcoming palladium coin ( 19EK) makes it a total of 11 individually issued unique Reverse Proof coins since 2006.
We've had 5 ASEs, a 1oz gold eagle, a half oz platinum eagle, a 1oz Buffalo, a Kennedy half, an FDR dime, and now a 1oz palladium eagle. (Last year's RP Proof Set included 7 more silver)
They're a pleasure to see displayed as a group.
Interesting idea. There are also 5-2018 RP silver quarters including the dreaded Block Island fiasco, a 2018-S-RP cent and nickel for non-precious metal versions, and I think I have counted 20 modern RP's so far since 2006. Currently the registry considers this RP set too specialized at this point to add.
This 2019 palladium in PCGS70 is relatively tough to find and lower pop 2,267 so far. The 2017 is at 3,770, and the 2018 at 5,756. The mintage looks like it will be about the same as 2017 and 2018.
Just looked at the mint website for these and the word “limited” is shown by the offering. Has that always been there? Is this foretelling a stoppage in sales?

It always is there after “new” if the item has a low mintage. Just look at the Apollo coins

Yes this subset is specialized - as is the nature of ALL subsets.
But as the number of coins in this group increases - and it is now obvious that the Mint intends to keep using and enhancing this technique - this subset will continue to grow.
I know that most of us in the collector community love the challenge of building a complete set of coins that inspire us. Especially if they're primarily of classic designs and of precious metals. (the first 10 years worth, 2006-2015, were)
My intent was not to propose a candidate for a new registry set. I was mostly just amazed at the question posed by @MilesWaites and how starkly it contrasted with all the prior discussion:
“Will anyone be buying this coin for pleasure?”
The 2019 RP 15,000 mintage number is looking more likely as the spot price ascends.
This reverse Eagle is my favorite finish so far within this series.
Will it go over $1,800 Bid? How soon. Any guesses?
edit to add
Just checked Kitco ( midnight EDT ) and I see +$9.00 so it is at Bid $1,800 right now. Will it hold, gain or drop? Your guess is as good as mine. At least I can say it hit $1,800 during inter-day trading.
Most of the precious metals drop after the possible dropping of tariffs with China and palladium stays strong.
What a stud.
That ought to keep the inflated price inflated at the Mint.

New Closing High

Repaired the white balance from a gold-ish tone to actual Palladium coloring.

So, so tough to photograph the RP!

The way PD is moving up so much, the Mint
might be wise to re-price it twice a week.
