To me it is NOT an ATAPS = Artificial Toning Attempted after Slabing lol :) The coin was originally slabbed with the "milk" spots on it. The spots are in the same locations but the "spots" seemed to have multiplied and turned a nice coin into a disaster. It might have been an estate find and placed in a secret storage… -

BTW - most of the warranty claims listed on the Statistics page come through the "Other" service submission. I assume that everyone knows that if your PCGS coin develops a milk spot, a carbon spot, unnatural toning, or something of that nature, you can submit the coin under the Other service and simply write in "Spot… -

You can remove PVC, but if the PVC has etched into the surface it will give a mottled look to the coin when viewed at an angle because the PVC has not etched the surface evenly, so you may have pristine surfaces that were not impacted (or as much) next to spots of bad residue which ate away at the original surfaces. I think the spots are from oil splater? I wish I could take a decent picture of it. They appear to have a shiney halo effect. I thought that was called milk spots but they are not white. -

I dumped mine because of the issue with milk spots, sold lots of PCGS RP 70's at or near 1,000 a piece, and what are they at now?link And how much would it be worth with spots? -

I will pay $10 for anyone that knows how to dip bullion and get not milk spots off but other spots.. Pm if you are interested.. Now remember only the experience.. -

Milk spots have been the bane of this series. It seems an acetone dip upon receipt (followed by proper rinsing) precludes this problem. None of my eagles have ever spotted. Cheers, RickO -

I received a spotted ASE once, in the early nineties...not milk spots.....and I returned it...very fast replacement. That was the only 'defective' I have ever received from the mint. Cheers, RickO -

That is a great looking half. Ammonia can sometime help the milk spots - but use at your own risk. I've had some luck with it on halves in the past. They will downgrade it because of the spot a point or two.
