<< <i>My original goal was to hold them until they hit $300 each, but they have passed that mark and seem to keep going, so I plan to hold them for a little while longer. Not sure how to decide when to sell, however... >>
The problem is, these aren't stocks. You can't just keep a trailing stop loss order on them and forget about them. It's not like you can quickly get out of a position as soon as they fall by $20 per set. When it gets to that point, liquidity might dry up and who knows how low you'd have to sell for, assuming you were motivated to get out of your position?
Bulls make money. Bears make money. Pigs get slaughtered. You might want to consider selling at the first sign of slowing price increases. You could still get out just before the top, which is usually better than trying to get out just *after* the top when there will be a stampede for the exits. >>

if there is a stagnation, then a correction....we will see it drop a noticeable amount, then pull back and plateau......somewhere...these won't keep climbing like a rocket forever. $500 seems like a stable point for raw, who knows. >>
Initially, I was going to agree with you on this....$500 seems good point for raw....then, however, I think more and more on the 2 "keys". I think they have more upward potential than some think.
<< <i>I suspect 500 per set will be the max for these. Does anyone see them selling for >500 in the future? >>
I see $800 to $1,000 in the next year. Reason?
2006-W Uncirc is one of the lowest mintage coins in the entire series. 2006 RP is the only *affordable* (though that's relative at this point) reverse proof the Mint has EVER made. It seems unlikely that they will ever make another RP silver eagle (at least for five more years, anyway).
Also consider the 95-W. It rose, and rose, and continued to rise FAR beyond anyone's expectations. The reverse proof is a truly gorgeous and interesting coin. I see these sets increasing for some time now. At least I hope so
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."
FWIW, I also think this is one of those times when a set is worth more than the sum of its parts. These three coins look truly gorgeous in their original display case, or in an NGC multi-coin holder. Or, as I've seen on eBay, slabbed separately and housed together in a velvet lined cherry-wood box.
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."
I sold a few sets and gained my first ever submission to PCGS with a resulting 69/69/69 First Strike Set so I could hold and appreciate the bouncing and bodacious threesome (verses peeking at those those ever rising sealed sets!) Now, I wait wth baited breath with the rest of you who gave me the info in the first place to buy all of the Anniversary and W sets. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Still holding a sealed box of 10 which I have no intention of selling. I also have a PCGS 69/69/69 FS (on the proofs) set. By next Christmas, I think these sets will be selling for $700 or so.

My icon IS my coin. It is a gem 1949 FBL Franklin.
I held on to one set ungraded and opened. I bought them in sets of 2 and my wife thought the package was something for her and opened this package. One set I sent to be graded and earned 2 70's and 1 69. The other sets I had graded were all 69's except for 1 70 proof. I sold all the 70's and spent the money on my passion, finishing my modern commemorative collection. I made quite a dent it in.
I am holding the set of graded 69's and the raw set until such time as I can sell them and buy a digital SLR camera. Time is looking pretty ripe, but I want a nice camera, so I am holding on to them for a little while longer. Anyone think I should wait any longer? Should I sell now? What will the winning Lotto numbers be next Saturday?
Jonathan
I have been a collector for over mumbly-five years. I learn something new every day.
Alix, the longer you hold the better the camera will become at less of a price and the SET may appreciate too! I predict 18 megapixels by the time the set reaches $1000.00.
I did very well on these sets and the 20th Anniversary AGE set. In some ways I regret selling them but I need to turn over that cash flow and I honestly made a boat load of money as well.
Overall, I bought 10 ASE Silver sets and 1 Gold set. I bought the silver in parts and was very fortunate to get 4 sets and submit them to PCGS for first strike. I got 2 FS PR70DCAM (not reverse). I sold em off coin by coin and my first sale on the 70 DCAM was $1200! I sold the other 70DCAM at $860 a bit later. I ended up ordering more units and got another 70DCAM first strike, which I kept. I never got a RP70. I do collect eagles, so I ended up buying a RP70 off the BST and so far it has held its own.
Overall, I invested about $1000 in purchases and cleared $2719.40. I keep an exact accounting (OCD). That profit includes all shipping and grading fees, as well as my purchase of the RP70 I got. And I still have a total of 4 sets left, all graded but none fully first strike. I put 2 PCGS 69, 69, 69DCAM FS sets away for my boys and 1 69, 70RP, 70DCAM FS for me in my long term safety deposit box. That leaves one to sell, and that is WHY I looked at this thread in the first place . I am trying to decide if I should hold onto it or not. I was very, very lucky and like I said, sold two of the 70DCAM coins for $2000 when there was a lot of hype going.
According to Ebay, it seems like PCGS 69,69,69 sets are going for $500+ and a set similiar to my personal set around $1300-$1500. So these coins did very, very well and I plan on keeping a full three sets since I LOVE collecting Silver Eagles. My gold coins did very well for me as well and I HATED selling those, but couldn't ignore the profit - plus I don't collect Gold eagles .
Overall, I think that PCGS graded sets will do very well. The Reverse Proof is of course very limited and extremely desirable. However, just think when people want matched graded sets, there won't be near enough PCGS graded sets to make up a 3-coin anniversary set. So the 70DCAM and MS69 coins will continue to go up, just for the 20th Silver Anniversary Labeling alone. Scary but true.
I think I am going to hold my last set and see what the next month or two brings. Goodluck and I am thrilled that this board influenced me to buy more than one set! You guys are great and I wanted to show you all how you helped me both Collect fo myself and my boys, AND Profit while doing so.
Got 3 sets which graded 69. Kept to and sold one to my sister at cost for a birthday gift for her husband...based on the recent appreciation of these sets he is becoming one of us.
Sure, could have kept a bunch and gotten more now, but the first batch of 10 I got, I had 2 PR70 reverse Proofs and 2 PR70 DCAM. Also had many MS69/PR69. Sold about 7 sets, made the down payment on a new car the wife wanted.
>>
Bochi Baby, you got a wife? Boy I'm jealous, I thought I was your only true love?
I've still got eight of the 10 sets i ordered, opened the sets when received and picked the best of the reverse proofs to send for grading, Received 4 69's and 1 70. I sold the 70 on e-bay for $3250.00 and gave one set to my dad.
I wish I had bought a NGC Black label set. I didn't since I switched to PCGS this year. Now I have a really nice all 70s proof set started in NGC and continuing in PCGS for 2006 and 2007. I really do like that black label. Maybe I will make a trade at some point.
Guess these sets weren't such a great long-term hold after all..
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I dumped mine because of the issue with milk spots, sold lots of PCGS RP 70's at or near 1,000 a piece, and what are they at now?link And how much would it be worth with spots?
I turned in my last 3 boxes of 10.30 coins total last summer when then first announced closing of bulk submissions from club members. Got some good grades with 1 MS70...............that is the tough one!
Wow this brings back memories, as much as I liked the set I sold all my ASE's or at least I'm selling. I just got too tired of the milk spot issues. If they ever fix this I might re-consider.
This has the be this biggest mistake I have made in coins. I had (and still have) 4 mint sealed Judas Boxes. I had a firm offer of $7k each, straight sale, no fees to anyone. I countered with $7500 each and was told no thanks (current eBay price was then $7k+).
What are the unopenned Judas boxes selling for these days?

Just like most I bought 10 and had them graded and sold some at the early jump in price.
Of the 30 coins I still have 11 NGC graded, 5 MS 69's, 1 PR70, 5 RP69's
I made about 2K profit and still have these 11.

$100 for a set 3/06 =$250-$300 MINIMUM now
or
$100 in Bank of America stock= $8.00 now
or
$100 in Microsoft = $54 now
or
$100 in GE = $21 now
I think I did OK with my 50 sets at $250 (not mentioning the 17 70/70/70 sets out of the bunch)

I do not try and time the market with my coins either
I was comparing 50 sets ($5000) vs equal cash equity investment
Three year ROI of two different products

p.s. I do still own the BOA stock

nope. bought one set, sold it for a profit as i wasn't interested in it. no regrets
