Re: An absolute must read from Legend
Just because a coin sells at auction for X, does not mean it's worth X. The 1941-S half that sold for close to $100k was never worth that amount, nor the FBL Franklin half that sold for $69k. It works both ways - I've seen $100k profits offered an hour after the sale for coins that slipped through the cracks for one reason… -

Re: A message from David Proskey about counterfeit shield nickels.
For Mint comments about drop dies, vacuum die process and related see NARA RG104 E-1 boxes 91-94 (1873) and E-1 boxes 95-98 (1874). As similar correct-alloy counterfeits date back to 1866/1867, Koinicker might want to revisit the specific gang of counterfeiters mentioned in his book draft. The Ingersol gang was very active… -
Re: Just got back my first PSA submission. What is N5: ALTERED STOCK
I had it in a thicker thank normal slip in card container. I don't' know what else to call it, I had it for 25+ years when I was in High School. I graduated in '94, I got this card 1-3 years before that. It was 100% not a screw in holder. I don't own any of those. I wish i had a pic of it. Perhaps when I get I back I'll… -
Re: THE Preeminent Grant Hill Basketball Card Collection
To be clear, the only card of value that I am missing is the 94 Rack Pack Refractor. and 2/5 starting five cards. I have most 1/1's, the best of the best with jersey patches and sigs. One card is literally the head of the piston and the flame on the jersey. Email or call for pictures and offers. Again, I would prefer a… -
Re: What was the seller's net fee for the 1794 US Dollar Sp66??
I would figure the consignor netted somewhere in the range of 94-97% of full market value (ie final price realized). That's the same as 110.5% - 114% of hammer. Legend was assessed the 17.5% buyer's fee on their invoice but clearly backed off their bid by 17.5%. The consignor likely negotiated the seller's fee to 0% and… -
Re: 1843-D $5 SP65 ex. Garrett-Bass in HA sale
ColonelJessup wrote: "Look at TDN's '94. Get technical later. You "get it" without the slab. Likewise this one. This coin is the 76-CC $5 of Dahlonega gold. " Please stop gushing over this, it's not merited. More than a few of the 1843s show semi-proof-like or proof-like fields. This Garrett/Byers piece is just probably… -
Re: How long does it take to log your Submission?
Mine is completed and shipped. Amazingly quick turnaround after finally getting logged. However, I will never issue a complaint again. I have been getting back about 75%-10's prior to this order. This order: 10's-94 9's -78 9ST -2 8.5's-1 8's -17 6's - 4 5's - 3 4's -1 How the heck do cards from 1997 and 1999 grade as 4's… -
Re: Explain to me the logic of bailing out farmers.
Good thing the FED is withholding water to the farmers What does CA provide to the rest of the country? 99 percent of the artichokes -44 percent of asparagus -two-thirds of carrots -half of bell peppers -89 percent of cauliflower -94 percent of broccoli -95 percent of celery -85 percent of the leaf lettuce -79 percent of… -
Re: The Mother Lode of Saddle Ridge - 1892-S
<< <i>What are the common date $20 libs going to go for in 63-64? Any estimates? I'd love to have a Saddle Ridge double as my first gold coin. >> For a common 1904 that price range is about $1,500-$1,900. But none of these are dated past 1894. And no date pre-1895 is common in MS64. There are hefty premiums for any 1891-94…
