Thats a lot of dough for raw coins.
Would it be "a lot of dough" if they were slabbed?

Luckily for you, it's not in NGC slabs....

It still would be a lot of dough, but it would be much easier to buy as there would be less risk involved.

<< <i>Seller has no coin selling history (leather goods) yet is confident enough to state all are proof 63-65 but allows no return for refund
Yeah I went through a few pages of his feedback too no coins, but looks like a various assortment of stuff not just a few bolo ties. One thing I noticed about people who just turn up selling a coin once out of the blue is either its a high jacked account or sometimes its a really nice coin from an old time collection.

For what it's worth not every old time collection is really nice coins
Interesting ...
and I don't think wax will stay on metal screws in transit to the buyer.

I didn't notice that until you pointed it out.
I wouldn't gamble on that set...I'd just buy a really nice proof of the same date graded.
The shield nickel and three cent nickel don't have the same patina as the rest of the set.
Those coins have lived a tuff life. Look at the rubbing on the reverse of the seated quarter and half! PF58?
The lighter toned spots on the central obverse of the dollar, half, and quarter seem to be missing patina....or even metal. Most of the coins show this feature.
They might be worth half or less of what the seller is asking. And if in holders.....they wouldn't be worth any more money.
You'd be better off sending a $5,000 check to your favorite charity. You'd feel good about your deed and get a tax break.

<< <i>Well I made a part cash part trade deal with this guy and am waiting for a call to set up a time to look at these and make a deal. I know a lot of people said its to much and not without looking at them well I worked on both of these aspects and am hoping for a good result. Wish me luck. I will post my own pictures if I end up with these coins. >>
Wishful thinking and a waste of time on your part.
<< <i>Why wouldn't he just pay to have them all slabbed?

Why would they they are copper nickel?

So, you get to look at them before you pull the plug? I hope.
Good luck!
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

<< <i>Thanks Crypto, I actually looked up the guy who owns them and he's 60 years old and he told me he bought them from a family that had them for 50 years and he's had them for 20 and if they don't look right well home i'll come empty handed. I think this is gonna pan out for me and haters are gonna hate. They look original to my eyes to and I don't wear glasses and can read any line the DMV wants me to no problem. >>
So, he is not a coin dealer, but is taking coins in trade? Another red flag to me.
Based upon the best close up pics, I see AU coins. Even if they are proofs (maybe, maybe not) impaired proofs are a very hard sell. I really don't think that the relevant eye sight test is a DMV line. Have you bought, and then graded, hundreds or thousands of coins? If you bought raw proofs lately, did they grade the way you expected? I seem to recall another thread...
By the way - nice icon... Is that your coin?

Nope found it right on top of the ones to choose. Is it your coin?
I'm not gonna buy these if I see any hairlines and yes I have plenty of luck picking out raw 19th century proofs.
edited to add no he's not taking coins he's taking bullion and cash and it was not an easy negotiation by any means.

Hairlines? Take another look at the dollar. It appears to have pretty obvious and significant wear on the high points of MS Liberty and even the shield. Possibly the same on the half, although it is harder to tell from the pics.

Thats why I negotiated a deal, so I can view them in person as well I got my loupe in my pocket and am getting antsy just waiting for the call but hey lets not let me have a adventure in my life then I can go around and talk down everyones coins that are not graded just like some people, sticks in the mud I tell ya.

It is indeed interesting , it does more than prevent tampering

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

Calm down I am sure chris was just making chat and dont worry about people here that always seam to known more until they don't. They look like coins that we're badly photographed to avoid glare/mirrors. A couple of hairlines aren't too bad with original skin just look for mirrors and rims and you'll be fine

Someone's feisty
In all honesty I think the silver coins in the set are going to be pretty well scrubbed albeit retoned nicely.
I am still working on the raw 19TH C Proofs bough in a "...deal on part trade and cash and now just have to go see them" from the seller with enough red flags to start...printing...red books (either kind). HOWEVER, as there has been a fat man down my chimney more than not, I wish good luck to the brave! Expect hairlines.
Best wishes,
Eric

Be careful about meeting him in person; they could be baiting you to rob you.
<< <i>I don't know how anyone could bid intelligently on a set of Proof coins from those pictures. In my dealer days I bought raw coins a number of times and had them slabbed. Even if they didn’t work for some reason I made sure that I kept the price at an “exit strategy” level. Now that I don’t have shows as a sales outlet, I’ve got to be more careful. Maybe if I saw these coins in person I’d get involved, but not like this. >>
Looking for the update.
Best wishes,
Eric
