Not a lot of experience with these but in any event I think it has great color, eye appeal, seems grade and really puts me back imagining life and what it was like at the start of the Civil War. Where I live, a lot of metal detectorists go the James River Plantations, where the Union Army camped. Officers were paid with gold dollars, and nearly uncirculated examples are found with some regularity.
Somebody came into the shop the other day and said his uncle bought a trunk in an auction of one of them "storage units", which ended up having 850 gold dollars in it. I love stories (even unsubstantiated), but a picture of a real one is soothing to the eyes. Thanks for sharing.
