A little Civil War period Gold piece

In 1861, $1 was equivalent to around $24.00 today. A lot of spending power in those days in one little gold coin.

<< <i>Nice, but did you get the Ankurj seal of approval on it yet?
Good point! I will retract my prior post and reserve judgment until then.
And remember, you bought it so you like it and that is all that matters.
Enjoy your wonderful gold coin and I thank you for sharing it.

Where I live, a lot of metal detectorists go the James River Plantations, where the Union Army camped. Officers were paid with gold dollars, and nearly uncirculated examples are found with some regularity.
I love stories (even unsubstantiated), but a picture of a real one is soothing to the eyes. Thanks for sharing.

Yep, came from a great seller.
I love the color and the clashing is fun. Crop it next time so we can see more of the coin.
