Didn't do the Grand Total, but I picked up the PSA 9 Herzog. Just short on a few others. Man I was salivating. Wished I had about 30 grand to drop. Whitey will have to do image. Jeff

Jeff, Great pickup on the Psa 9 Whitey Herzog card. you've really made a big improvement on you're set in a fairly short time. congratulations and good luck with future upgrades. PB

Thanks, Phil!! I really appreciate the congrats and comments. It is a tough one, as you very well know, but it is a labor of love. The 1960 Topps baseball set is fantastic IMHO.

Awesome Job!! It really is a lobor of love...sometimes one falls out of love before they get close to finishing, which is my case.

I think this an fantastic set too! With the exception of a couple of raw cards I'd like to upgrade and a few cards already graded, I've nearly completed a raw set.
If anyone is looking for 1960 baseball graded in Psa 7 or higher take a look at my Registry Set (I'm 4theboyz... ranked in the mid 40s) I have about 75-85 cards graded PSA 8 or above.

Awesome job on the completion of this great set!! image

This is my favorite set from the 60s. I have been working on it for about 20 years with my goal to finish it while I am still alive (odds 50-50). I purchased some PSA 8s and then the lower quality cards did not look so good in comparison so I decided to do it in 8. Although I have over 400 in 8 I need the big dollar cards to complete it. I may finish the set with lower rated cards and then upgrade as able. I do have some dups for trade or sale. #148 Yaz rookie PSA 6, # 132 Howard rookie PSA 6, # 173 Billy Martin PSA 7, #60, 276, 325, all PSA 8. After I update my registry set I will have quite a few more dups.

Looks like it's been a while since someone posted on this thread, but I thought I'd add a scan of a unique 1960 Topps item.

Yes, you can clearly see the Sandy Koufax card through the wrapper. Who knows that else is inside this wax beauty?

And yes, 1960 Topps is my favorite baseball set of all.

Does anyone know which set was broken up and sold on ebay the past few days? Whoever had it, it looks like it was a beautiful set, congratulations on putting it together!

I was happy to grab some cards I needed from the sale. Generally the prices looked to be very strong and, in some cases, surprisingly high.

That is a wonderful card. Burdette and Buhl were both quality pitchers (Bob owned the Dodgers about as much as O'Malley did) in their own right.

I'll soon have an extra thanks to my old brain which does not fire on all cylinders. I need #78 which I bid on a couple times this year but not high enough. I read the name on #177 and think it is the one that got away. I am the present high bidder well above VCP. I thought about retracting my bid and no big deal because the new high bid would be only $1 below my bid. See my brain doesn't work. With my bid gone the new high bid would be about $60 lower which would not be fair to the seller for one reason many who saw my bid simply moved on. I can't retract and bid again below the underbidder as that would make me a shiller and we know what a kruk of crap they are. I'll just eat this one, compare it to my other, keep the best and put the other in my store. And to make matters worse I am not close to my maximum bid yet.

love to have the Gardner, but it's just more than I want to give for one right now. I think I'd just pull my bid on the other one. I doubt the seller will be out much (I was planning on bidding again at the end before it jumped up $60).

Picked this up a few months ago. I've been tracking these for years, and one finally came up. It's only the 3rd to come up since '95, so I was pretty happy to come out on top. Can't wait to get it matted and framed.
