He seemed puzzled and said "oh a coin collector? No, never was interested in them" ~~~~~~ to which I simply replied " too bad"

He's only interested in collecting coin in a different way. Modern, and lots of 'em.

My cardiologist is working on a pill to replace exercise.
He's promised to call me first.

My general practioner knows I'm a collector, and he things I'm nuts.image He'll look at a history I'm reading, say about the disputed 1876 presidential election, and say "boring." image
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Think about this though. In the 1920s the average annual wage was around $1,000 per year, or roughly $3 or $4 per day. An average person could easily carry that around in pocket change.

Today, the average interventional cardiologist makes well north of $1,000 PER DAY. Putting that many Benjamins in my wallet makes it fat enough that it's uncomfortable to sit on.

What's my point? I dunno. It would be nice to have some non-electronic means of carrying a day's wage (if you're a cardiologist).

Strangely enough, the vast majority of people do not collect coins. Cheers, RickO

That's probably a good thing, otherwise I would get a LOT more emails than I already do.

Bryce M, just to get this really updated, try $3,000 per day as of 20 years ago around 1990 for interventionist cardiologist, i.e. $1MM annually back then. image

Although to keep it in perspective most of them don't start their career until their early 30's due to the extensive education needed, and have a 20 year career. Still lots and lots of Benjamins though!

Good point. The more participants, the higher the demand and hence, higher prices.

Unfortunately I've known my cardiologist since 1996. 14 months ago he suggested I sign up for the transplant list. PM me if you want to volunteer as a donor. image He keeps bugging me to tell him what the 60's were like as he just missed them. Told him not much I remember I was too busy partying. And he's not a numismatist either but a mountain climber, go figure.

Big Moose is probably a better cardiologist and numistmatist!image

In this day and age, the hoi polloi of the proletariat peons, along with the multitude of the great unwashed working class of people, are the only ones who would ever consider being called a Numismatist. (Longacre and maybe RYK excluded)

It maybe referred to as the "Hobby of Kings" but not to many of us collectors have ever been crowned.
