I just completed a fairly large purchase and acquired a great coin. It's safely stored in my safe deposit box and I have pictures and the auction catalog for the collection it came from. I've researched the coin type and I know what I have.
However, my budget - and my wife - dictates that I have to take a short break before I can buy the next coin.
So...now what?

Perhaps a little history of the coin, it's provenance etc, and what drew you to that particular piece. I always find it interesting how and why collectors are drawn to certain coins or series.
Sharing ones thoughts on coins in their collections with other collectors is one of the great intangibles of our hobby.

You could also tell her that you will gladly do household chores, shopping, cooking, etc., for more coin money.

If you know colonials, then you know just how special this coin is. I've wanted it since I first saw it.

Uh-huh. I don't do colonials, but I certainly noticed that coin on the CRO website. Congrats, that is indeed a prize.

Blow the picture of your purchase up to about 6' in diameter and glue it to the ceiling above your bed
You will enjoy it and she will get so sick and tired of seeing it, you can make a deal on the next purchase and you will remove the image from the ceiling.
From my viewpoint its a win, win tactic

A coin like that should 'satisfy you' for at least two to four months of daily 'loupe time' of an hour or more.
HOPE your safe deposit box enjoys it......thats the LAST place Id have that ...for awhile.

The coin went straight from the post office to the safe deposit box...didn't even bring it home.

Very nice purchase, and a great addition to a well balanced collection.
You have a few empty slots...it will be enjoyable to see how you fill them in the coming days, months, years and decades.
I appreciate those comments.
Another more serious solution is to revise your hunt to only things you can get a really, really great deal on. Then you can explain how you *HAD* to buy it for investment purposes for her care upon your demise. I actually do that and it works.
