In my opinion it is a Chinese counterfeit.

Yep, if that had been a real 1840 in that grade at that price, it would have been scooped up quickly.

image And, look at his other auctions, practically every one is private. There are legitimate reasons to do private auctions, but when virtually every auction to be private, it's usually a sign that the seller is up to no good.

usually if i am on the fence i just go ahead and report.

i'm not mean or hard about it i usually just state

"the following item looks high risk etc etc, should be investigated"

what i think matters not, it is up to ebay to removed the listing

so i keep it vague. just getting their attention to an item is enough

Looks like it ended, sold for $410. Half of the $820 marked on the flip so the buyer thinks they got a rip.

I'm assuming ended means sold and the auction wasn't stopped?

Correct, but I would suggest you report it now even though the auction is over. EBay has often canceled auctions after they ended, if they determine the item is fraudulent. Happened to an auction I reported last week.

yup someone bought it, hopefully Ebay cancels the transaction. It looks like hes been selling a lot of coins with positive feedback, but the sales are set to private. That why I wanted to get an opinion and get help reporting it. I feel bad for these buyers when the they go to resell these coins or their heirs get stuck bogus coins. Hey thanks guys.

Check out some of the other stuff he's offering in addition to this bogus item. He's been giving the Chinese a lot of business so that he can give you the business if you bid. image

Turns out he's a relative newbie to coins and got screwed on the Seated dollar. Thought he was getting a
real bargain at $200. He ended the auction on his own and now he's going to try to get his money
back from the source or credit card company.

I compared to a PCGS graded dollar, same date.

Spacing of numerals in the date looks off to me.
