It angers me to do it, but the way most magazines work...cancel your subscription and wait a few weeks...you'll likely receive a "special offer" for less than you even paid last year. One of my business publications I have to do that with every year. They charge $1,000 a year but always have a half-price offer for new subscribers. image

I always just cancel and tell them to let me know when I'm a new subscriber again...usually takes them about an hour.

I was very suspicous of that price, I thought it was the "let's get the regular subs to pony up more" rate. But then I looked on the Internet and it was the same thing.

Sad to say, the Numb News will go by the wayside this time to make up the difference. I really don't need both anyway.

I dropped my subscription a couple of years ago and I'm doing just fine without it. There are many more resources out there. I got tired of turning page after page of ads with very little actual content. And most of the content that is in Coin World is about modern mint products in which I have no interest.

    I say don't renew.

At a little over a dollar per issue it's a bargain.

& don't forget, the price of postage has probably gone up twice since your last renewal.

I would only subscribe again if it were free. The ethics of some of their long-time, big advertisers are unacceptable to me.

Well, of course an electronic subscription is much less expensive.

Also, I believe that if you're an ANA member, you get an electronic subscription as part of the benefit of being a member.

Now, at least my wife isn't nagging me to get rid of the old copies of Coin World that used to be cluttering up the house! image

The ANA member benefit is for NN, not Coin World.

I like Coin World a lot.
I have the subscription in which I get the "special monthly" issue by mail and I read the other issues online.
I think last time around it cost me around $20 or so, which is well worth it to me.
I used to also subscribe to Numismatic News but the info was redundant with CW's, so I let it lapse.
They occasionally sent me a "free" issue to lure me back but, unless it was free, I wouldn't take it.

    << <i>20% to much >>

Because I tend to agree from an inflationary measure that there is an overwhelming abundance of increases in costs to us , in order to fund those who have TOO much already, your post actually sends me into a LANGUAGE frenzy, which is just as important to communication as it is to journalism and reporting.

The correct grammatical statement should read:
20% to $59.99(and continue with) .... from a cost of $49.97 is too much for most people in this economy. Considering we spend that much on our cell phone service every month, it's like having to pay for 13 months of cell phone service, while only getting to use the phone for 12 months. And those are spent texting.

sorry BigRig... it's nothing you "said". Im just thinking about how I hear from a few people on my cell phone image. Sometimes the grammar is so bad I have to call them and ask : "Was there more to that sentence ? "

My Chicago Tribune subscription is usually $27 every 3 months. I noticed the charge on my CC of $59 instead. "Oh, I'm glad you called. We raised our rates because of our costs." So your costs more than doubled? I told him to cancel it immediately and refund the difference. He kept lowering and I kept saying no. Eventually I said OK at $35.

It's gonna get ugly in terms of inflation. Prepare to make do with much less.

Because of the voluminous advertising, more articles that do not interest me than one's that do, and the exorbitant price for a magazine... I will only purchase one (or maybe two) a year that interest me from the bookstore (where I get a further 10% discount). Cheers, RickO
