Just about done updating. I have through jwgators.
Some of you put down for the 79 Cello's that sold out quick, so just want to make sure you are aware. I have an email into Steve to see if we can get another one. I will say I doubt it, as he barely could get us the one he did.
I'll keep you posted. Also please just double check to make sure everything is correct for you.
Take care and have a great day!
EDIT: Also they 78 Football Cello's are sold out, Nendee getting just 1 and last one. I will see if Steve has more.
Please also put me down for 2 80 opc packs. Thanks again!
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
I REALLY hope we can find buyers for the remaining (18) 1978 OPC boxes... I've been wanting to rip into that case ever since he got it. I already have my penny sleeves and CS1s sitting in wait.
Alright page 1 is all updated and accurate. Thanks cpamike for finding a couple errors.
If I have it listed right we have 43 different people in on this break. Cool stuff.
Get the word out to your friends or other collectors you know. We should be able to sell this out by Thurs or Friday.
The 78 OPC boxes are going to be really sweet. We should be able to make a bit of a dent in that population report. We need to sell it out or get real close in order for Steve to open it. We are a quarter of the way there.
For those of you who are new to this format we allow 2 packs per box for the first 48 hours, then 2 additional packs for the next 48 hours. After 96 hours it's open for everyone. The exception comes into play with OPC, as most have 48 packs so you can get 3 for each time slot. If you requested more than 2 packs, I only put you down for 2. You will need to post again if you want additional packs once the first 48 hours passes. These easy guidelines were made by the regulars who participate in these breaks. It's designed to allow many to get involved and enjoy the pack ripping or pack saving process, whichever is your pleasure.
This is the 6th one this year that I have helped organize, and they are a blast. The best thing we can all do is post pics of the packs or the cards if you rip em. I have a box sitting here right now from the last break with BBCE, and I haven't even opened it. I feel like ripping too!! I'll keep ya posted!
Thanks and feel free to ask any questions as we continue. The only other thing I could think of adding at this point which might be cool, is a box of 82 or 83 Topps Baseball Cello's. What do you think?
70 Topps you are correct. We only had one box not sell out of maybe 70 or so we have busted.
The normal time for these is 4 to 7 days. This is a big one, but we have to be close to half way. Once 48 hours passes they'll be a spike for those wanting more packs.
The 78 box should be lots of fun though for those who like to rip older wax, and the price is right, but it may be for those who like raw sets instead of graded.
The 78 box should be lots of fun though for those who like to rip older wax, and the price is right, but it may be for those who like raw sets instead of graded. >>
I'm going to add an 82 and 83 Topps Cello Box around 9 or so. 2 packs 24 hours and then 2 more tomorrow night just like the rest. I know we'll sell it out quick. Steve hasn't confirmed it, but am assuming he has plenty.
The reality is there are only 268 PSA 10's from this year. There are around 106 cards out of the 242/245 card set that haven't graded a PSA 10. So there is a lot of room to make some money. There have been 5,280 cards graded total.
How often are there 1978 Topps Wax Boxes available on Ebay or BBCE? The stuff has dried up big time. Everyone is sitting on cases, boxes, and packs. The next best thing is going to be OPC. Now some of the 9's may not be going for huge money, but there are not many out there for sale either. Look at Ebay, check ended listings. I mean 77 OPC are going in the $550 to $600 range. I would suspect 78's will only go up in value.
So if I put one of these away for awhile, will I lose money on it? I don't think so. If I open and pop only one 10 that should cover a good size portion of the cost of the box if not all and maybe more. I don't know, but worth the gamble for me.
I'm not listening to what Mr I will post, but won't put my money where my mouth is, right now. I am not buying it for right now. How many packs are you getting again?
Just my opinion. And just so we are clear I don't care one way or another if we sell it out or not. I get zero, zero from BBCE for doing these. I guarantee it and many on here know that. Nor do I get any extra discounts of any sort. It's not that I haven't tried, I have several times in fact. And because Steve hasn't done so is a big reason I think he is the best around, period. I have gained more respect from it. Everyone gets the same treatment whether you spend $500 or $5,000, whether you do box breaks or not. I enjoy doing these and seeing everyone post. Although lately there is less and less of opening. Seems to be a big trend of unopened packs going around. Myself included. So because of this I think this is a great deal, and they are as fresh as can be.
Sorry I am just voicing my opinion. Went on a tangent a bit there.
I agree with Mike completely. Where else can you buy a CASE FRESH 70s wax box for less than $300. You're talking about 8 bucks a pack! So what would you expect a 9 to go for? $100? You can buy a 75 OPC pack for $50 if you want that kind of risk/reward. And if you're fortunate enough to pull a Mint 9 Murray or a few gem mint 10 commons, you will definitely make money and then some. Busting wax is not like investing in a CD. You're not going to get a guaranteed return. But as a collector, it's awesome fun to bust open vintage wax, and if you're an unopened collector, you can stash the box away as case fresh boxes from the 70s are getting very tough to come by. And as a bonus, 78 OPC wax boxes were also sealed with a piece of tape so they are truly factory sealed!

Well put Mike... most coin dudes are stiffs anyway. Screw him.
I just wanna pull a Canadian Murray! I've opened two 1978 Topps boxes, and no Eggie... I want to actually PULL one of my favorite cards from since I was a little kid, even if he does have a floppy head and beady little eyes.

Shoot, I only wish I knew something about coins or comics... I'm sure I've missed many opportunities while rummaging through flea markets and garage sales.
I digress... if there was any vintage wax that guaranteed a profit from ripping, there would be nothing left of that vintage wax.

<< <i>I'm not really good at math, but I think we oversold the '82 and '83 cello. >>
LOL, I think we've almost sold out a second box of each. Maybe Mike can talk Steve into adding two boxes of each as we still haven't even gotten confirmation that the first set of '82 and '83 BB cello boxes is definitely included.

If its just a few packs will Steve do teh break anyway and sell the remainder as individuals?
If its more than just a few packs does that box get dropped from the break?
Thanks

Many of the common nine's sell for five bucks. Even the tougher PSA 9's don't sell for much.
Tough ?
The 78 box should be lots of fun though for those who like to rip older wax, and the price is right, but it may be for those
who like raw sets instead of graded.
