Loss of an outstanding YN
I don't know how many of you knew Mark Petty AKA Speedy. I believe he was a former Outstanding YN of the Year winner. He has been doing an internship with Stacks/Bowers this summer in New York. Speedy was found dead in his apartment last night. I don't know anything further at this time but it is believe to have been related to an underlying medical condition. Speedy was 21 years old. If I learn more I'll pass it along.

I didn't know him well, but have shared a few PM's with him ... bright, smart, energetic ... had the world in front of him

If his father or his family reads this, my greatest condolenses ... he was the same age as my children

This is very, very sad news.

I had corresponded with Mark often about Liberty Seated dollars and Bust quarters. He was a very intelligent and dedicated numismatist. In my last PM to him, I congratulated him on his internship with Stacks-Bowers. He also attended some meetings of the Liberty Seated Collectors Club. We club members will miss him a lot.

My sincere condolances and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

Mark picked up an 1870cc dollar back in 2007 and we had good conversations regarding
his AU dollar and my presentation 1870cc. 4 years of chatting back and forth through PMs.
A great kid that loved his coins with a wonderful passion. He'll be missed by many friends
    and of course family too.

    My condolences to them all.

Just a kid. I think he was a true up and comer in numismatics. I just returned from a coin show in his hometown of Dublin, Ohio. I remember he was so excited about working as an intern at Stacks/Bowers. Rest in peace young brother Speety. image

Oh man, this is so tragic. Speety always had such unbridled enthusiasm for his connection to the hobby. I want to remember him in this way. I hope we all will. image Spend some of your valuable time with a YN or YN group in your community while the loss of Speety is fresh in your mind. They are the future of this hobby.

Very, very sadimage he seemed so enthusiastic about seated dollars. I don't think I ever met him but we communicated once in awhile her on the forums.

Best of wishes to his friends and family in this difficult time.

We PM'd often about his Seated $s and went back and forth about Liberty Nickels as well. He got his passion for the hobby from his father. He seemed like a really nice young man and as enthusiastic about numismatics as I was when I got started.

This is beyond horrible. Mark was a good kid. There is very little worse that I can think of than a parent having to bury his / her child.
