Loss of an outstanding YN
I don't know how many of you knew Mark Petty AKA Speedy. I believe he was a former Outstanding YN of the Year winner. He has been doing an internship with Stacks/Bowers this summer in New York. Speedy was found dead in his apartment last night. I don't know anything further at this time but it is believe to have been related to an underlying medical condition. Speedy was 21 years old. If I learn more I'll pass it along.

Edit to add my heart felt condolances to the family.
Also note that there is a typo in the orgininal post his handle was Speety.

I am truly sorry for this news. Everyone who knew Mark liked him.
His enthusiasm for the hobby was unparalleled.
My deepest condolences to his parents, family and friends.

I'm so shocked and saddened.
I can only offer my condolences to his father and his family.
And my prayers.

I didn't know him well, but have shared a few PM's with him ... bright, smart, energetic ... had the world in front of him
If his father or his family reads this, my greatest condolenses ... he was the same age as my children
I can not even imagine

I had corresponded with Mark often about Liberty Seated dollars and Bust quarters. He was a very intelligent and dedicated numismatist. In my last PM to him, I congratulated him on his internship with Stacks-Bowers. He also attended some meetings of the Liberty Seated Collectors Club. We club members will miss him a lot.
My sincere condolances and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

A great kid that loved his coins with a wonderful passion. He'll be missed by many friends
and of course family too.
My condolences to them all.

He shared some interesting stuff with me via PM back in April and May. He will be remembered!

Really really sad news to hear.
Just a kid. I think he was a true up and comer in numismatics. I just returned from a coin show in his hometown of Dublin, Ohio. I remember he was so excited about working as an intern at Stacks/Bowers. Rest in peace young brother Speety.

This is beyond horrible. Mark was a good kid. There is very little worse that I can think of than a parent having to bury his / her child.

I knew it would happen.
He sometimes came out to the area and we had talked about getting together and chatting.
Real nice young man to chat to in PMs.....regrettably never had the opportunity to chat in person

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
