I am so done with Chase Bank
I use a Chase checking bank for coin-related purchases and I turned in a personal and local chase check last Saturday (The 4th).
A few days later, the check clears with funds available. Then a few hours later the funds are not available. A few hours later the funds are DEBITED. Then returned. Then there is a "Hold" on the check. Then I call "customer service" and am told the funds will be available at the end of the business day. This morning they were available. You guessed it... a few hours later another HOLD with a release of funds date for the 15th!!
Has anyone had this problem with CHASE? I am ready to close my account after all this mess.

Most banks, if not all will not let you deposit a check from another bank and then draw the cash unless you have sufficient funds to cover the check you deposited. If anything, it sounds like they were trying allow you to have access to the funds but the system kept blocking them.
My bank has a sign in the drive-up window that saya "Funds may not be immediately available on checks deposited" (or something like that).
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Never a problem with Chase. Quite the opposite, they have bent over backward to be helpful. Along with Capital One, I think they are two of the best customer service oriented banks in America.
Take my advise, bail out. You will sleep better at night. buffnixx

I'll disagree. I have a designated personal account with private banking services at Capital One. It's an extra for my level of business. I also have a dedicated phone line to speak with anyone I may need in order to ask questions or resolve the rare problem. I get answers usually in ten minutes or less and a human always answers to guide me through the process and connect/introduce me with anyone I need to speak. Same with going to the bank. I call the number and either a bank person will come to my house or an appointment is made at a local branch.

Your "nightmare" usually occurs when there is a history of NSF deposits or withdrawals associated with either the payee or payor. Suggest you contact your branch manager for an explanation.

I'll both agree and disagree with you. Bigger is definitely better and there is no doubt about that. However, establishing a strong relationship with the manager of the branch you use the most of that "Super Bank," will serve you as well as your smaller bank. Following this path gives you the best of both worlds.

Bingo. Having dealt with MANY banks small and large (now with B of A) in order to expect any shot at responsive customer service you absolutely need to know your branch manager. Beyond that it helps if you are connected with other departments of the bank such as commercial loan or whatever because the people that know you there will usually go to bat for you if you have a problem outside of their department.

bank after I tried to cash in some of my duplicate OBW State quarter rolls.
They wanted to charge me 5% for the quarters, a handling charge I was told.
Opened an account at Peoples Bank, no charge for change rolled or not.
It's cheaper to cash my check at StopnShop for .50 cents,
and use money orders from the PO, then maintaining a checking account.

They sound as bad as my bank. I wanted to make a purchase in cash from a local collector, and the bank demanded 3 forms of ID because the withdrawal exceed $999. A simple driver's license should have sufficed...

Sure an experience and transaction trail becomes broader than that. Yet, look at many people in society, unfortunately there are the few that either do not give a dang or do not have the ability to add 2+2. I can hardly think of any companies or institutions I have done business with where I have not had at least a bad experience as it is life. Of course as consumers we have a choice and when fed up we can take our business elsewhere, but if you can get my overall point....too many dang people in this world!

I can not think of any reason i would ever need to use a large bank like Chase, my small local bank can handle my needs. I do not borrow money often but a few years back i bought a year old F250 Ford diesel. I was just going to walk into the sellers bank on monday and get a loan from them. I filled out the info on the internet sunday afternoon. Looked like it was fairly simple. I met the guy on monday morning and went inside to finish the paperwork. I told the manager what i was wanting to do and i believe she ran my credit and told me what the intrest rate would be. I was informed 30 minutes later that all was good and i could finish my loan after i opened an account with them and they would process the loan in 5 days. LOL
I called my small bank and they took care of the whole thing on the phone and had a check ready for the seller by the time we walked in.
I have had great service using USAA for quick loans under 100k, something must happen when you cross that number, i had intended to borrow 110k and they told me there would be quite a few add ons so if i could live with 100k it would save me time and money. So i did.

If you can't join them due to being ineligible, I highly recommend Alliant Credit Union, PenFed or USAA (not a credit union but close enough).
Oh well, I ended up with an extended period where no credit card company bothered sending me offers. The bill collectors were another matter.

never a problem with WAMU/Chase or Wells Fargo (over 15 yrs with each)
and you got ripped by a pizza delivery guy once? WOW!
I cashed the bonds at Chase - nine months later, they charged my account $75 for a bond cashing fee. I went down to my branch to get an explanation, and despite keeping me waiting in a cubicle for close to an hour, they ultimately could not give me an explanation, saying it would take 2-4 weeks for them to research. If someone on the street took $75 from me it would be robbery - I failed to see a difference with what Chase was doing... how can they take money from my account without my authorization, and without giving me a reason other than it pertained to a transaction that transpired almost a year prior? I gave them an ultimatum: either explain the charges, or return the money... and to make my point, I threw my cowboy boots on the manager's desk. Then Chase gave me an ultimatum: either leave, or they call the police.
They are a bunch of crooks - they took glorious part in a mass-swindle that has had dire consequences for many Americans trying to make an honest living in the present economy that took large part in creating, and they not only got away with it, but they were actually given our money that we pay as tax payers to sustain themselves when their mess collapsed.
Suffice it to say that I am no longer a Chase customer.
