a good kind of busy.I am really interested in the Forums

    opinion of the coins.

I can't wait to cross it to PCGS. I do believe it will cross with a possible plus grade.

I just do not know what I will do with the Wash/Carver. PCGS will cross it with a Plus

I guess, but I like the NGC + and *. However, after some agonizing introspection, I

will probably send it in to PCGS.

I sure wish that PCGS would begin giving Semi PL, PL and Cameo designation to type

coins other then Morgan Dollars. I believe that it would be a big step forward for the

hobby as well as the company. I also think that PCGS should give out the designation

of a diamond on WOW coins. Then they can be called PCGS DIAMONDS. I think that it

has a nice ring to it.

    Some gorgeous coinage there!

The 1850-O Liberty Seated Half in PCGS MS-64+ is an interesting coin.

It has all of the characteristics of a true gem. The MS-65 costs close to 15,000

but this wonderful 64+ cost a third of that. The toning is also quite beautiful.

When I saw this coin on the Coin Rarities on Line, I knew right away that this coin

would fit in with all of the higher graded coins. This is a truly rare coin in rather

high grade. It is probably the most perfect example of the new Plus grade for a

    MS-64 coin.

Well, Mr. Bear that is a truly fine selection of hand picked, gorgeous examples you have there! I admire your stated plan and your commitment to work it in order to reach your goal. I would say that you are very well on your way. Every example looks to be choice for its assigned grade and has superb eye appeal. Nice cross section of color, originality, and flash in that grouping. Very, very nice coins sir.

Commems are a growing interest in my household and that pan-pac is excellent. Thanks for the chance. image

Really though, them are some nice coins!
  • BearBear Posts: 18,953 ✭✭✭
All the non stickered coins will be sent in, but I believe that a number of coins

are possible upgrades and they shall be sent in first to PCGS, As for the 1837,

that was purchased from Laura and she strongly recommended me to purchase it.

It will be the key stone of my collection. It is in the lower part of the 5 digit region.

I would say that I have expanded my original concept for the collection. I now believe

that it will total in excess of 25 coins before I am finished. As for non CAC coins, they first

have to meet all of my strict criteria. If they pass the cut, I buy them, CAC or not. After wards,

I send them in and so far, all have been awarded a sticker that were purchased nonstickerd.

So far though, they are all green no golds.

I plan to expand my gold coin selections, as well as the commemorative, but they must

be WOW coins. Also I am still looking for an arrows and Rays quarter and or Half that

wont break the bank.I have always admired that particular design. image

nice coins but why not leave the coins in the same holder its in? People will buy the coin and not the holder when the wash carv and the 1891 come up for sale in the future when your kids sell it.

That is the cause for the painful introspection. As a Kool Aid drinker,

I feel that it is disloyal to my hosts. But you do make a very cogent

point and I will give it strong consideration as to the Wash/Carver.

Gosh I love that coin almost as much as I love Mrs Bear.image

I am going to agree with mkman123...leave the WC in the NGC holder, it's not likely to become a pcgs 67 and you might lose the +
The coin is gorgeous , whatever holder it is in.

I agree to leave the Washington Carver in its existing holder.
I don't think I have ever seen a plus and star on the same slab....and that is rather unique
and.......I think toned like that in the NGC white slab shows the color off better.

I am first in line to go with PCGS, every coin I purchased, rare or otherwise has been PCGS approvedimage
but I would make one exceptionimage....In my humble opinion

Bear thanks for your fast reply. I like this forum as well and like PCGS but I like NGC as well. I think both companies are great and would get coins from both companies. When I get coins from both companies I never give it a thought as to submit it to another company for a crossover.......thats because if I buy a coin, I buy the coin not the holder image

That wash carver is amazing, leave it be image

Bear a collection like that could cause a guy to stray off his collecting path.

Please tell me you are considering adding at least one copper piece. Copper is so rich and deep and it's nearly required in the makeup of great type sets. So sayeth the shephard image

I'd like my copper well done please!

Very nice Bear! image Just a couple of critical observations...none of which are critical to the coins though. image

The smallest coin is a quarter...no dimes or nickels yet? Any plans for a dime or maybe a Buffalo Nickel? I can understand staying away from copper, that scares me...you never know what one of those things will do in 20 years, I would hate to see a RED turn into a RB or a RB turn into a Brown etc...I have seen plenty of holdered RED coins that look RB without question along with RB that should just be called Brown, to me anyway.

The walker does not allow you to click on it to view it larger...some type of website permissions issue?

That web page does not work on the iPhone...I reallly wanted to look at them earlier when I was out at dinner. Everything on the webpage was all jumbled. image

I was happy to get home and view the set! AWESOME!

In answer to some of the questions here goes:

    1. I will follow the consensus of the Forum and keep the Wash/carver in its NGC Holder.
The Plus and the star plus the coin is just too difficult to destroy.

2.As to copper, nickels and dimes, I could never cotton up to anything smaller then a quarter.
I do not know why, it is just the way I am. "Not that there is anything wrong with collecting them".image

    3. I have some big coins coming up in the Heritage Sale so stay tuned.

    4. I will start a new thread with my criteria for the collection when I get a chance.

Bear you have put together some outstanding coins. Anyone that knows anything about me would know that I am drawn to the Carver/Washington and it flat knocked my scoks off. As a matter of fact I have only found my left sock, my right one is still lost. That C/W is absolutely amazing. I am a big fan of PCGS coins also but I think I would leave the C/W as is. Thanks for sharing and more pictures of future purchases. I will be waiting on pins and needles.

Does this mean you're doing a gold commemorative? I think a PanPac $2.50 is a classic beauty worthy of a collection like this. Also, the biggest monster Oregon you can find. Your PanPac half is a beauty, and is one of those commemorative designs that is always in demand.

The combination of timeless designs and excellent quality you've chosen will do very well.
