He said he was only doing Quarters and higher denomination coins. I think the copper stuff blends in too well with his fur and he loses it or something.

Wow! I was trying to pick a favorite but every time I turned the page there were a bunch more outstanding coins. Kudos Mr. Bear.

Good Gawd Almighty - Bear - there are some great coins in your new collection. Can't say which I like more... they're great !!

The Wise Old Bear has done exceedingly well. Congrats on your spectacular collection. Many well respected members have weighed in with their personal favorites. My #1 by a moon shot is your 96 Quarter Eagle. Man that puppy is smooth as glass. I also love the pastels in your 42 Walker. Each coin looks very special and stands out on its own. Many WOW’s here.
I always wondered about this guy Bear, so much buzz but not a lot of material. WOW the wait was well worth it. What an amazing assembly of material with something for everyone.
<< <i>The answer was, the 1944 Walker Half in MS-67+ while not pictured is still owned by me. In fact it has gone up in price to 4850 which is more then I paid for it. There are only three graded in MS-67+ and the one coin in MS-68 is valued at 100,000 dollars. Do you see the potential for value increase in my coin? >>
I do see the potential. But it's also true that of the 143 MS 67's graded between both services, many of those will slowly start filtering in for regrades as the price of the 67+ coins go up. It would not be out of line to figure that of the 65 PCGS pcs graded 67 that maybe 10 of those end up making 67+. In looking back at a 2001 pop report I note only 12 MS67's vs. 369 MS66's. In other words the 66 pops slightly more than doubled by 2007 while the 67 pops went up almost 5X. Considering the grading shifts that "probably" occured in the 1996-2007 era I don't think it would be a stretch to think that a majority of those MS67's from 2001 would be excellent 67+ candidates today. There's no reason to keep the pops of MS67+ coins tight. In fact making more of these would encourage more to show up and increase TPG revenues. And no doubt as these 67's are tried for a +, another 68 or two will probably come about. That could bring that $100K price tag down to $30K to $50K. The plus game is only 1 yr old while the grading game has 25 yrs under its belt. It will take some time to review 25 yrs worth of coins for pluses. But no doubt if I was looking for potential in high grade Walkers it would probably be with the + coins as well. It is interesting to note that the pops of MS66 Walkers doubled from 2001-2007, and then more than tripled in the last 4 yrs. In other words, there's a lot of Walkers still out there to be graded. On a good note, while the 66's tripled in qty over the last 4 yrs, the 67's only went up 14%. A sign that the 67 grade for the 1944 is tough once again.
I love what you are doing with your set but that 48-O has got to go!
I was following that coin while it was being auctioned at Heritage and sold for an inflated $1840, which would be high IMO for a perfect original 48-O.
The obverse hit on this 48-O drives me nuts and I can't really see how it got a CAC sticker. As a specialist in seated halves I just can't live with that much metal being removed from the obverse to the point that it actually removes almost two sets of shield lines.
Again, I love your set but I thought this coin was a problem when it was at Heritage for anyone willing to look at the large obverse pictures. Perhaps it does not bother others as much but it would drive me crazy. I once had a dealer send me the most amazing 1873-S seated half in an OGH graded high AU that I loved until I saw a similar large bag mark that removed a large amount of metal, I had to send the coin back despite the fact that I loved everything else about it.

to have one crystal clear ,so I could enjoy the details of the intricate design
much as I like my Standing Liberty FH Quarters white for the same reason.
For most of the collection, I tend to prefer light to medium toning. The 1861
LiB Seated Qaurter Proof looked nice in the picture, but in hand it was much
darker and it has been sent back and deleted from the collection.

I have to agree the Antietam is a real monster, I think I saw it at DLRC and considered it for my own set as well. A very special coin!
I am glad to see the addition of some nice seated material. I need an 1879 for my set but yours is several grades above my set average.
A great collection.
