How much to ask for ASE's at a coin show

I have a set of about 100 PCGS graded varous date MS69 ASE's. I was thinking of walking them around the floor of a coin show this weekend. How much of a premium to the silver spot price should i ask for them? I'd like to get the most i can but didn't know what to ask of dealers. Any ideas?

You should EASILY get 43+!! Don't settle for spot or 1-2 over spot. Since they are graded, you should get 4-5+ over spot.

If you do not get spot plus grading fees, you are losing money... not to mention carrying costs (which, for some reason, most seem to ignore). Cheers, RickO

As the price of silver rises, the premium for grading and other add-ons drops. I think you would be lucky to get anything over spot from other dealers.

Figure apmex has ngc 69s for spot + $5 + shipping/processing, shoot for +$3 easy.

Keep in mind that some dealers won't want 100 slabbed ASEs unless they know they can move them quickly. A lot of ASE buyers don't want to pay extra for a slab so some dealers won't want to pay extra.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

It appears you are attempting to sell generic date silver bullion in the form of PCGS graded mint state ASEs to dealers at shows. I would not expect much of a premium to spot for them. Several closed in ebay auctions from $45 through $48 per coin in the last day while APMEX offers their lowest sell price at about $50 per coin.

If you can make a date set out or two out of them I would just shop those around. I expect you will be offered in the neighborhood of $1200 for a date set.

Most buyers of these are buying them for their intended purpose -- a low premium for buying silver -- and think paying ANY premium for certifying these is nonsense and just add extra bulk and costs.

It's bullion with a slight mark-up whether it's graded or not, except for the 96. Spot + $2 for the rest.

There are some collectors that put together date sets and will pay a very small premium for the slab but finding those collectors may not be easy.

The buyer in our area that had the rep as the sleasiest low-ball con-artist is paying spot+1...a dealer about an hour away is paying spot +2.5...I thought I saw that Apmex was paying spot + 3.5 but I haven't tried to actually sell any.

They can't do any worse than ungraded coins, here's a buy sell site that will give you an idea:

graded 69's are bullion, even date sets. Expect $1 -$2 premium over spot if you are lucky.

most dealers don't even consider 70's worth the premium either. They way to sell modern stuff is thru the BST or Ebay.

Back in January I set up at a smaller local show of about 25 dealers. I had 20 ASE's in the case priced at spot, which was $29. I didnt sell one.

Now, I would pay higher for a fresh tube of eagles than those certified.

Graded bullion is still bullion. You will get spot offer maybe $1 over.

Gosh, I'm sorry I wan't able to get to the ONA show in January, Dave!

To help make up for it, I'd be willing to take all of twenty of them off your hands today--and I'll even toss in another buck apiece and give you $30. image

Dont get too wrapped up in a dollar or two extra per coin, just take a buck over, and let someone else make a little, and move on with your life. Calling someone sleazy for wanting to pay "only 1.00 over spot" is a little over-reactive----------BigE

Thats not going to happen. No dealer will pay you $50 per coin at $40 spot. Starting out high like that tends to piss the dealers off and they will counter you with an extra low price. jmho

Apmex sure doesn't sell at spot plus. Right now they have 2002 PCGS69 for $60+ no qty discount.

I can use a few thousand of them right now but am not interested in paying above spot today and in fact may wait for a small correction.

Here in my neck of the woods it reads like this. The bigger boys buy, nice graded, a buck back of spot and milkspotted or toned its 3 back. For selling its +5 raw, +9 graded. I only ask a few shops and soon just quit looking after I found a low volume hole in the wall shop buying 2% under spot . Kind of fed up with the whole thing after a dozen calls about selling my 90% and they all swear they are giving the best deal around at 10x face. I'll just do it here when the time comes, or see what the 2% guy offers.

Our shop was forced by city "pawn shop and 2nd hand junk dealer" law to hold ALL purchases (including junk silver) for 10 days exposing us
to market risk if it went down. Also the police would regularly come in with a report of someone having "3 rolls of silver halves" stolen,
and if they could find 3 rolls of silver halves that we had purchased in the last 30 days, even from different people (we had to record
their drivers license numbers and items in a log book) THAT MUST BE THEM they would just TAKE them with no reimbursement to us.

I wish some of you guys who only criticise mom and pop coin shops -- and buy from millionaire dealers that wouln't spit on the average working
class coin collector if he were on fire -- could work behind the counter of a brick and mortar coin shop for ONE DAY and see what goes on in the real world.
