Would you buy Morgans for $14.50 a pop?

Just asking because my dad's local coin shop offered Morgans to him for $14.50 a pop, and he gets to choose which ones. Turns out the shop owner bought quite ab it of them and is in need of cash since his more expensive gold coins are not selling. The shop cant even get rid of silver eagles so he sent them in to get melted

It depends upon what the Morgan dollars look like. If he's selling a bunch of "slicks" and chewed up examples, I'd make sure I could them over quickly. If they are decent coins in Choice Fine or VF, then it's a nice deal in this market.

Damaged and badly worn U.S. dollars are always a bad deal unless they prices cheap (close to or under melt).

I had to say this, but are you sure they were made in the U.S. ?

The jerk in China loves to make Morgan dollars, and if he's doing it with lower than standard grade silver (less than 90%), you could be in for a screwing.

I don't see what the point is in melting silver eagles, since they're essentially the highest tier of bullion that you can buy.

I have wholesalers who will buy them at $17.00, so long as they're not polished, so yeah.

Melting silver eagles because they can't sell them? That shop is doing something very wrong if they can't sell ASE's.

Where's the shop located, on a deserted mountain somewhere?

You have to know the area and you will soon realize why nobody is buying silver eagles. Coin shops are very scarce, and the owner cannot sell his higher priced items which is where he makes his money. What good is it if he buys eagles below spot but still cant manage to sell them. Demand is just not there for silver. Amazingly but true, and me having lived there I can tell you that probably 90% of the population is not aware of the value of silver, hence the reason why theyre not selling.

Its too bad that I dont live there anymore since i am military stationed overseas but Im damn sure to send money over for some Morgans. I mean Morgans below melt value? Cant really pass on it

My dad just called from the shop and while the shop owner has a few Morgans, most are Peace dollars and in excellent condition @ the price of $14.50 each. If he buys 100 the price would be $14.00 each. Im shopping for some silver dollars on the cheap woooohoooo
Payday is in a few days and im having silver fever.
