A CC Morgan dollar error accidentally struck over a CC double eagle would be the ultimate error coin.

It was "coins" which led to the invention of writing; the largest single advancement before or after the dawn of history. Farmers used small discs with farm assets depicted on them to fascilitate trading. Over time the discs grew to represent concepts like "ten cows" or "next year's wheat harvest". It was seen that if ideas could be represented than so too could sounds.
Anyone in those days might have inscribed the concept of value on a piece of metal but the world wasn't ready for money so it didn't catch on. There was extensive trade between regions and nations and this trade did include some silver and gold as well as copious a- mounts of copper. It's entirely possible there were many "coins" in existence before they actually became popular but they were not "circulated".
I'd like to see something of the sort from the great pyramid building age even if it's noth- ing more than a thin metallic "jar seal" or a token issued to outstanding workers.
There are plenty of error coins we can think of. I would agree with the poster who mentioned the 1895 Morgan business strike. Finding all 12,000 might allow some average collectors to afford one.

There is also at least one coin for which dies were made but no coins are known to have been struck: 1870-S quarter.
There are also missed opportunities: 2009-S VDB Lincoln cent.
Of all of these, the one I would most like to find is the 1870-S quarter.
