I don't think the younger scouts (Cub and younger Boy Scouts) will be the old scouts can. If they will want to buy one, who know. As a former leader and father of two Eagle Scouts, I will be giving them both a PR & UNC coin. If they have boys who go through the program, they will also get a set. I think that is where the demand will be. Take the same age group and ask if they are interested in buying a silver eagle or any coin for that matter. I bet they will say know. But, receive one as a gift (like I did with my first 1922 peace dollar) and chances are, they will have it for a life time. I still have that peace dollar - my aunt got it in Vegas when they were in use down there.

Lots of scenarios are possible.
I see a post from 4/6 where you say you "loaded up." I assume the total was over $300 and it will automagically go next day air by UPS.
It is very likely the "Unc. on 6/17" e-mail yesterday was a system generated one sent to you just because yours hadn't shipped that day and they wanted to give themselves plenty of time to ship.
Then it they entered a tracking number the next day for the shipment anticipating it shipping.
Then it gets fuzzy. (historically, there are a few scenarios with the most likely one being they are shipped)
I can tell you that these tracking numbers from UPS often do not work until later in the evening. Try about 10pm Eastern. (sometimes they mark it shipped, but it doesn't go out until the next day) to give you an idea if they have everything in the box, both my shipments of "10 and 10" were 4.40 pounds each. I'll let you do the math from there.
I returned ALL of the first 10 and 10, and from the second set: 7 of the Proofs and 9 of the uncirc. Actually, the 7 were pretty good. I just wanted to cherry pick. I did keep 1 that was marked up a little only because it has a slight strike through on the reverse. On the other hand, it was rough to cherry pick the 10 Unc. and the 9 were worthy returns due to contact marks. I was wondering if I'd even find an acceptable one. I'm glad I finally did.

<< <i>In a promising signal that the 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollars are headed for a sell out sooner versus later, new weekly U.S. Mint sales figures show the commemoratives almost equaling their prior performance with another 22,261 sold.
Since their release on March 23, 2010, 312,653, or 89.3 percent, of the maximum 350,000 have been snapped up as of Sunday, April 18.
Until the latest round of numbers were released, progressive weekly sales had been halving. With that trend broken, the coins could sell out in less than two weeks if the current pace is maintained instead of many months ahead as it was beginning to appear.
Boy Scouts Coins Weekly Sales Totals

Collectors will pay a premium for perceived rarity. That's the way it is. Just saying that the numbers can be skewed by whether a random group of coins are sent in vs. a cherrypicked group of coins.
Ex.
10,000 BSA Commem's are sent in to TPG "A" direct from the Mint and get 3000 70's
A large BSA order is looked over and culled and 10,000 of the best coins are sent to TPG "B" and get 7000 70's
Would TPG "A" 70's be worth more because there are less of them??? (perceived rarity) or are there less 70's because the obvious non-70's were removed ??
Just sayin' the pop #'s are not reliable for moderns due to bulk submissions vs. cherrypicking

Assuming that these sell out, it will not have been a quick sell out. Anyone in the coin world who wanted one has had the opportunity to order. If this coin is to go up in value it will need interest from people outside of the hobby. Another black eye on the face of the BSoA won't help the sales of this unattractive commemorative.
And for those that are prospecting these commems, I would think that you would want these to not sell out. Less sold mean less on the market since the U.S. Mint won't be selling them for years to come. Unlike the Lincoln commems, these are not meant to be flipped right away.

My take on that issue: It will only further polarize the group in people's eyes...those who hate it, will hate it more, those who support it, will support it more...so I object to the straight-line black-eye comment; SOME will think it's a black eye, others will think it's a blatant attack and rah-rah the group.
As far as value of the coin: Interest in things BSoA will need to rise, and that judgment only fuels the visibility...and IMHO increase the demand for the coins. Not that I'm rushing out to buy 100's of these or anything...
Plop one of these in front of a scout or a master that doesn't collect. See if they ask about getting one....or the one you just put in their hands. That's my plan in the next week or so.
Boss up and over from me is a huge scout man, eagle and master, but clueless on coins and commems. If I put a proof and unc on his desk to look at, he'd probably want them.
<< <i>And for those that are prospecting these commems, I would think that you would want these to not sell out. Less sold mean less on the market since the U.S. Mint won't be selling them for years to come. Unlike the Lincoln commems, these are not meant to be flipped right away. >>
These things were WAY over what would be considered a "hard to get" modern commem dollar. Look at the 1996 Unc commems. Those are hard to get. They also have mintages that were less than 1/10th of the PROOF population of the BSoA coins.
These are interesting, and if enough people in scouting take an interest, these might one day be semi rare, but I'm not holding out hope for a $400 coin. But I have mine, so that's all that matters.

I think what you meant to say is that, although these coins will never be rare, potential demand may increase their value.

I think less sold = less interest and a sellout means more interest and potential future demand. There has been less than 200k of the Veterans coins minted (pf + unc) and that has been available for 2 months.
Do you think that will be a more valuable issue despite the minimal interest?
I don't see the UNCs on the Mint site anymore...does this mean they are officially sold out?

<< <i>ISENT 6 OF 10 UNC's TO ngc ALL 6 CAME BACK 70's.....I SOLD THE OTHER FOUR TO FAMILY....... >>
Congratulations, but that should not come as a surprise. NGC probably has graded more 70's than 69's & their resale price is reflected in the secondary market.
In comparison, PCGS % for the unc. graded 70 ... is 33%
for the proofs......................25%
again, the resale price is reflected in the secondary market. >>
PCGS has GREATER than 50% grading MS70.
315 MS70 out of 576 - 54%
Proofs are less
321 PR70 out of 918 - 35%
There will be no shortage of 70's. >>
Not sure where you got your figures from ... but the latest pop report indicates.
315 MS70 out of 894 - 35%
321 PR70 out of 1275 - 25%

My mistake, your right. I needed to add the counts together, duh.
So, said a different way:
315 - MS70
576 - MS69
Proofs
321 - PR70
918 - PR69

<< <i>BSoA haven't been doing themselves any favors lately. $18.5M could buy a lot of commems with a ton of money to spare. >>
And what does that have to do with the price of tea in China. Are you talking about a Jury award because some weirdo snuck into the ranks of BSA, just like every other organization in the US? I don't think this will have any effect on the coin what so ever.

There are less than 20,000 of the 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollars left, the United States Mint revealed in its latest sales report Tuesday morning. (4/27/10)
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
ok, so there is a waiting list for the Unc.
We just received week five figures.
They pulled the sell out back a little to a bit more than halfway between week 6 and week 7
and we are in Week 6 sales right now.
The predicted sell out is coming shortly.

I think not....

Sales are slow on eBay.
However, this past week was week 6, this coming week is week 7. Projections are pointing towards a sell-out this coming week.
I'm not stockpiling them for flipping. I have 3 and 1 (see earlier posts) So, I'm not trying to pump them. I'm just offering a projection.
Anybody know the mint stats for this week?
