I got 2 proofs and 5 uncs this morning. In hand, the obverse is pretty cool, the reverse is just uber plain!

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

These are going to be difficult 70s. On proofs: wide expanses of mirrored finish, all blemishes are very
noticeable. On uncircs 8 for 8 had hits on the big boys left eye brow (obverse) and all shields on reverse
suffered hits and scuffs. image Maybe the next batch will be better image

I guess the biggest question is will the real demand be for slabbed coins or original packaging? Maybe the coin collector will want the slabs but these are targeted towards the Scouts and I don't think they are really going to care if it has this slab around it. I beleive they would like to have it in the original OEM packaging, IMOP, coming from a long Scouting background.

    big demand?

    I don't know.

but for the Lincoln Proofs, the only premium is for the PR70DCAM and it's quite a premium.

I'm going to guess that for affordability reasons, ungraded will be easier to sell.

also, how easy will it be to get a 70 anyway? I've got 10 and 10 coming, if they are like the Lincolns, then chances are likely none will make a 70, nor a 69 probably.

I ordered 12 Proof and 3 unc back ordered until the 9th. I received the Disabled coins a few weeks ago and no 70's in that batch of 10.

Received 10 proofs this AM..... As mentioned before, it's going to be difficult, even with better quality control by the Mint, in getting a 70 grade from PCGS for these babies.

Waiting on mine, patiently, and hoping for a sellout.

The boss a couple spots up from me is an Eagle and a scoutmaster, BIG into scouting. Once mine come in I'm going to show him them and see what he thinks....and flip one maybe if he's interested as I doubt he ordered any. I'm the only collector that I'm aware of on the team I'm consulting in.
  • Got 20 proof today. These are very nice. Some of the best quality
I've ever got. Out of the 20 there are no visual scratches / nicks
/ rubs. Have not looked under a loop. Guess my order hit just right.
Be nice to pull a couple of 70s.

I will add that I'm annoyed at the shipping time. I ordered under 2 hours after they went on sale and I'm still looking at 8-9 days before shipping starts....might work for my flip plan but still....we like instant gratification don't we.

  • On the Disabled Vets proof I ordered 20 and returned
    16. They looked like they had been stacked up or rubbed
next to each other. 4 Disabled Vets pending on grading.

On the Scout proofs coin yes I was lucky. These are the best lot
I have ever had from the mint. This is not the norm. Will keep the
lot. Will pick 10 to go to grading and hope for 2/3 70s. Of course
saying that now they will all come back as 69s.

    10 and 10

Proof: 9 sub-69 with 6 having black specs in random locations on the reverse, one had a large scratch, one a small scratch and another a small pit.
MS: 9 with rub marks and 1 with a stuck through lint on the obverse and a ding right on the center stripe of the shield.

    5 and 5 - 7 going back

Proofs - 2 of 5 are okay.. 2 have scratches and 1 is struck thru lint...

Uncs - none are even 69 quality and 2 didn't even have COA's...

These will never sell out due to all the returnsimage Not funny but once people sitting on 100 get antsy when the sellout doesn't occur you will see a bloodbath on eBay for these. Bet they'll sell for little over melt.

Didn't the mint change the return policy? I thought there was something like a 7 day return window now.

US MINT says my 6 each shipped 3/25, live in So. Calif. still have not received them!
Should I just mark RTS and not even lookimage (I was just planning on flipping and make a little money image)
What do you think. (I will need one each graded, but will just buy from someone on the board!!)

    Blessings

Sounds like a loser since everyone here getting way more than they collect to flip. You best dump them fast IMO, these are another Franklin or Marine silver dollars which are at least as popular and better designs IMO

Potentially. I wondered if people piled on just because the site was slow.

I upped my 5 and 5 to 10 & 10 for possible flipping, though I feel like I should have made it 50 & 50 just try to get 1 nice one of each. image

All of mine are more than likely going back except for maybe 1 proof.

  • Got mine today. Proof was fine. UNC had spots (under magnification). Were has QC gone at the Mint?
  • So strange! The tracking was of FedEx but USPS delivered it with a USPS label. I opened the box to what I thought would be sealed coins. Just unsealed blue boxes. Should I juist continue opening and inspect?
  • MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 36,065 ✭✭✭✭✭
for orders/items under $300, they use a joint fedex-usps service where fedex drives it cross-country at a rate slower than even their ground service, then they dump it at your post office instead of your house for the post office to deliver it.

all of these will be in unshrinkwrapped blue boxes with blue cardboard sleeves.

I ordered 10 Proofs and 10 Uncirculated Boy Scout coins. And got the email yesterday 3-30-10 that they were shipped. Hoping to get them this week and check out the quality.

I''m 10 for 10 on Proof and Unc.

All look great. Keeping all, until they hit $100 each that is..

For anyone who's tracking a potential sellout, my order number 3418****...submitted about 10 minutes ago.

Backordered until Tax Day (4/15)...maybe I should tell the IRS to go ahead and just send my refund over to the Mint directly!

Was this recently added on the website?

a limit of 100 units each per household is in effect for this product during the first 30 days of its release. At the end of the initial 30-day period, and each 30-day period thereafter, the United States Mint will re-evaluate this limit and either extend, adjust or remove it.
  • MFHMFH Posts: 11,720 ✭✭✭✭

I got a bit nervous when I mailed in my order for One Proof and Two Uncirculated coins.

Seems as if the concensus of opinion was there was going to be a sell out, so I went on
line and ordered another Proof and two more Uncirculated coins.

The on line order is # 34114XXX - Shipping 04/07/10

I just received confirmation of the mailed in order # 34159XXX - Shipping 04/13/10

I plan on giving away one Proof and a couple of the UNC versions as birthday gifts -
so I'm pleased I doubled up on my order.

The latest figures shows 214,673 have been sold, with 144,732 proof and 69,941 uncirculated. As is typical with the US Mint weekly sales report, the "as of date" is Sunday.

With the cancellations and returns, I doubt if they are above 175,000.

Don't forget that the flippers are now and will be returning their rejects, and those returned coins will then be sent out to those with coins on backorder. It stinks.
I think that if you order over X number of pieces then you should forfeit return privileges.

One of the guys here at work got one of each. The Unc is OK, but the proof has a small struck thru on the reverse.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

It's on their website under "Shipping and Returns"::

Orders with Merchandise valued at $300 or more with a standard delivery option chosen will receive a complimentary upgrade to Expedited Shipping.

I've never seen that posted anywhere on the mint website. Anyone with knowledge to the contrary please feel free to interject, but AFAIK as long as the holders, etc are ok they can and do reship the returns (unless there is some very obvious problem with the coin itself, i.e. damaged in transit). On the packing slip/return label, one of the options you can check off as your reason for returning is "changed my mind". Certainly those coins wouldn't be destroyed at any rate.

(I guess that's what I get for trying to "make money" on the US MINT !!)
