This is truly a breakthrough coin. I have a feeling it will spark a new generation of collectors.

    I haven't seen one yet.

I like the idea of the shield design. But putting not one, but two sets of designer's initials on the reverse is a bit presumptuous and ridiculous.
I collect history in the form of coins.

Same thing with the Bicentennial Lincoln cents. What up with the spots already? Wish they would address that. image

    What's up with those spots?

Other than that, the reverse design looks like its been on that coin for decades.

    In other words, it fits...

    Good choice, I think.

I still think the reverse initials are far too prominent... the public should complain to the Mint and have them removed for at least the next 9-10 years until they can find a less prominent place to hide them image

So now it takes THREE designers & sets of initials to complete a penny?image

There's the original VDB on the obverse under the shoulder.

Then there's 2 on the reverse under the ribbon. So did one on the reverse design the shield & the other the ribbon? Or do they now give credit to whomever designs the LETTERING on the reverse?imageimage

I just wonder how long it will be before someone finds a 2010 on a 95% copper planchet. History repeats itself.

A capital idea! Let's hoard the early ones with the designer and engraver initials.

The coin's not bad, VDB's portrait has returned (hooray!), and the spotting ruins everything.

    1. It's miles ahead of the formative year disasters.
    2. It's still dreadful.
    3. It comes 5 years after the cent should have disappeared.

So...given the fact that it's terrible, obsolete, a tax burden on the people it's supposed to serve and an insult to the man it seeks to commemorate...it's pretty much on par with the last ~30 years of US coin policy and design.

I wondered about that too. Maybe it's an illusion. The Mint adjusted letter spacing and position. You can see obvious differences when you compare a wheatie.

Abe looks better but the reverse looks like something that was designed in a grade school class.

What are we gonna call these? Lincoln Shields?

That's really not Lincoln. (Liberty in an indian headdress) Take the hair and beard away and we got the Liberty Cent all over again.

I bought some rolls from another dealer since many of my customers have been asking for them. I've seen the press releases call them "Union Shield" cents, so that's what my little sign reads.

I've seen a lot of spots on these people have gotten from ebay. I got my first one in change the other night from a Wendy's. I was excited because reverse looked perfect, but alas, I turn it over to find a big fat fingerprint. image

I found some today, Opened only 1 roll and they were all spotted to some extent. I like the design and will be anxious to see the proof. If it would be worth a pair of stamps to anyone send me a SASE and I'll drop a few in your envelope.

It's a nice design. Funny how there are haters no matter what -- probably would've pointed out how horrible the Walking Lib halves were in 1916. image

It looks like they have striking issues on Lincoln's head and the C in CENT on the reverse.

IMO the ONE CENT should have been incuse and the initials not put in the field (perhaps in the scroll ends would have been less obvious)

A vast improvement on the memorial design in my opinion but the entire denomination should be discontinued except for collectors. I also think wide rims such as those seen on the Braided Hair large cents and half cents and on the Seated stuff really offset the design of a coin-makes it look more like a little cameo. Too bad only the Sac Dollar has any semblance of the wide rim-I wish all of our current coins had it.

While I still haven't gotten any 2010 pennies, I think that the reverse looks waaaay better on an actual coin than on paper. image
Hopefully I will get one soon, been getting plenty of 09 pennies and quarters, but no nicks and dimes from 09, or anything from 2010.
