I like the idea of the shield design. But putting not one, but two sets of designer's initials on the reverse is a bit presumptuous and ridiculous.

Same thing with the Bicentennial Lincoln cents. What up with the spots already? Wish they would address that.

Other than that, the reverse design looks like its been on that coin for decades.
In other words, it fits...

There's the original VDB on the obverse under the shoulder.
Then there's 2 on the reverse under the ribbon. So did one on the reverse design the shield & the other the ribbon? Or do they now give credit to whomever designs the LETTERING on the reverse?

A capital idea! Let's hoard the early ones with the designer and engraver initials.
The coin's not bad, VDB's portrait has returned (hooray!), and the spotting ruins everything.

Come on mint let a few off centers slip by
2. It's still dreadful.
3. It comes 5 years after the cent should have disappeared.
So...given the fact that it's terrible, obsolete, a tax burden on the people it's supposed to serve and an insult to the man it seeks to commemorate...it's pretty much on par with the last ~30 years of US coin policy and design.

I wondered about that too. Maybe it's an illusion. The Mint adjusted letter spacing and position. You can see obvious differences when you compare a wheatie.

I bought some rolls from another dealer since many of my customers have been asking for them. I've seen the press releases call them "Union Shield" cents, so that's what my little sign reads.

IMO the ONE CENT should have been incuse and the initials not put in the field (perhaps in the scroll ends would have been less obvious)

so is this the new design now.. like for the next 50 years or whatever?
Hopefully I will get one soon, been getting plenty of 09 pennies and quarters, but no nicks and dimes from 09, or anything from 2010.
