1922-D weak D Lincoln

I see the Red Book lists a weak D variety- for the 1922-D Lincoln. I am curious as I am not that serious about Lincolns- exactly how weak does the D need to be? I would think earlier varieties that feature a well defined reverse would be more desirable. Would an EF to AU example be worth sending in?
Does someone have a weak D example that they could share?

Sadly I've seen a couple of these "weak D" 1922 Lincoln cents in certification holders. From one angle it appears that the mint mark is missing, but as you move the coin in the light, the "D" appears and is not complelely missing like it is on the three "No D" varieties.

Isn't that the very essence of it being a "Weak D?"
I for one would love for one of the major TPG's to publish the definitive photo essay on the cents of 1922, and what constitutes a:
No question Variety 2 "No D" with the strong reverse;
Legitimate Variety 1 or 3 "No D" with the weak reverses;
"Weak D" from the Variety 1 and/or 3 dies with weak reverse;
Any other acceptable "Weak D" die pair, if any.
