NEWP ... A&R 25c ... and guess the grade ... Slab posted

Well, I recieved this a couple weeks ago, but with all the other stuff going on, I just now had a chance to take a picture of her.

The more I look at her, the more I appreciate her. Anyway, she has found a home for now, and may soon be released from her plastic to join the other album babies.

Feel free to guess the grade, and any comments are welcome

    I would grade it AU-55 from the obverse. The reverse looks Mint State, but there are too many small rubs and scratches on the obverse to get it that grade.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    You need to be tighter than that Mark image ... ohh, and BTW, I'm glad they let you back on here while I was gone ... I always appreciate your contributions


    Anyway, thanks for the guesses ...

    Actually, the coin is in a white ANACS holder, and it was recently up on a major auction site with not so great pictures (not flea bay), and in my opinion, was mis-graded. Based on having the coin in hand, and the opions of you all from my so-so pictures, I was right.

    Personally, I think it's a Choice AU, with an obviously stronger reverse than the obverse.

    I'll wait for a few more comments and/or guesses and then I'll post a picture of the slab later ...

    Well, here's the picture of the slab;

    Although the coin is not the "epitome of origionality", I do believe it is much nicer than the grade assigned, and should have graded in the 53-55 range (IMO). There is no evidence I can find of cleaning, although the circulation scrufiness is notable on the obverse. However given it's color and toning progression, I do believe it was dipped at one time.

    The 'inholder' pic looks accurate to grade - or perhaps AU50. The larger pic certainly gave the appearance of much more luster
